I'm stuck for a name?!

Well I have a board setup just about ready to go, but I'm basically lacking a name, and am wondering if any of you wonderful people out there would be willing to help come up with a name for my board/domain.

The board will be setup for local area freecyclers to post their stuff for wants/offers etc, but I also want it to be a place to discuss local events and topics for the surrounding area.

I want to target more freecycling, but there has to be a good base for other locally related news/discussions etc.

Anyone feel like taking a stab at a name that doesn't specifically apply to one for the other (freecycling/local stuff) but would still convey the relevance of the board?

free-cycling.net
free-cycling.org
free-cycling.info

If you like, go for these domains, since you are targeting @ them. Just my suggestion. ;)

Domains Checked & Available.

they're all great names but it's too specific to freecycling. I also want to focus on chat, and local events in and around the city, but I'm worried about having a specific name like those lest people be less inclined to do any actual chatting or hanging around.

losersonbikes.com

This is a serious suggestion, it sounds dumb but you won't forget it.

Boofo 08-15-2010 09:39 AM

freecyclersunited.com ?

BigJohnny 08-15-2010 12:02 PM

losersonbikes .... lol. It has that unforgettable quality that's for sure, but just hearing that name seems like something totally different than what the board is about.

Boofo, That one has crossed my mind, I even checked into the domain.

Here's my dilemma, because I really like freecyclersunited. .... it can alsobe abbreviated as FU ;)

The people who are part of the freecycle groups now don't appear to be forum users, that's fine, but alot of them(75%?) are not too keen on the idea of another website/group(they think it's a group of some kind) for freecycling where the same people can be part of "yet another group" and post the same stuff somewhere else, increasing duplicate emails with nothing new.
What I'm doing can fix these problems, and open up a whole community where a yahoo group can not.....but again, most of these people really know not how to use extra features of YG.

However, alot of these people also really like the idea of a place to find out about stuff going on in and around town, quite frankly so do i because you can't find jack shite about what's going unless you already know about it.

If I target a name towards freecycling, I'm worried people will get the wrong idea about the "local database" let's call it, and it will have less interest because people don't want to be part of yet another freecycling group with the same crap....etc.

If I target the name towards local goings on, events and what have you, then the freecycling aspect may suffer, which I don't want to see because as I say, a forum could easily solve a LOT of the problems people complain about and be a much better venue for the freecyclers(while giving them other things to complain about lol)

and that's why/where I'm stuck.

I ran across the same thing with my new forums. I wanted it to be local, but yet available to others if they found anything interesting. I ended up using my town name as part of the domain name. (example (in your case): desmoinescyclers.com). It makes it local but still open to those around us.

BirdOPrey5 08-15-2010 01:24 PM

freecyclersunlimited - so you can talk about anything.

Jack12 08-15-2010 01:51 PM

cyclersanonymous - haven't checked the domain, just the first name that popped into my little head.

For this purpose, it sounds like a website for cyclists, great name, wrong demographic :)

Another FU eh :D

might try a domain name generator
they usually have a few options as "keywords" to search for, that way you can see what domain is available for purchase.

I'd shorten it to FCU but whatever.

free-we-ling.com

iHatton 08-15-2010 05:22 PM

Here are some suggestions:
cyclersin.com
cyclersage.com
bytecyclers.com
alliedcyclers.com
cyclerslegion.com
cyclerscongress.com

Loads come to mind, let me know if you want more!

BirdOPrey5 08-15-2010 05:34 PM

go with the bootleg .co domain...

freecyclers.co is still available.

BigJohnny 08-15-2010 09:45 PM

why is it bootleg?

BirdOPrey5 08-15-2010 09:50 PM

Because .co was originally the country extension for the country of Columbia... when some profit minded individual realized it was so close to .com they decided they would market it as a "commercial" domain name to the whole world instead of reserving it for their own country... It's not bootleg really, I just call it that because of its history... Go Daddy and others are promoting it as the biggest thing since .com.

iHatton 08-15-2010 10:28 PM

I wish I was faster in registering some names. e.co sold for $88,000 as well as other big names such as fantasti.co and tobac.co
