Spam Detector Suite (Lite Version)

1 Attachment(s)
Lite Version:

With this hack you will be able to set a minimum number of posts for your users in order to post links in posts and threads.

Premium Version:

The premium version will give the administrator the ability to further strengthen his/her forum security in regard to spamming.

As we all know, most spammers lately are human spammers who can bypass all the anti spam measures taken in the registration page and then turn their accounts over to the automated bots once registered so they can go ahead and spam away.

So imho it is much better to focus the attention and energy to combat spam on the forum side/posting of things. Spam Detector will scan the posts besides links, for any spam keyword in posts, threads, thread subjects, private messages/subjects, emails, signatures and visitor messages for users with a minimum post count set by the admin. And then the posts and threads when a spam keyword is detected are either blocked or placed straight into moderation queue so you can sort the legit posts from the spam ones.

The spam detection method is up to the admin and can be set with ease at teh Mod 's Admin Settings.

Needless to say that even if someone tries to be cute by posting normally and then try to edit their thread/s posts and sneak in a spam keyword it will be blocked as well during that action too.

Also, if a spam keyword is detected in private messages, emails, signatures and visitor messages, they will be blocked from performing those respective actions.

You can add yourself the spam keywords, which can be anything, a word, a full phrase, a link or whatever you want.

You can also exclude groups and forums from the spam detection restrictions.

Installation:

Upload the contents inside the upload folder to your forum root keeping the structure intact. Then import the .xml file at Plugins & Products->Manage Products
at your Admin Panel.

Then on the left side of the Admin Panel, you can find the mod settings where you can add the spam keywords, edit and delete them and configure the settings to your likings/needs.

If you want to test it here I have set these spam words:

viagra,

Online pharmacy,

gucci shoes

Any posts and threads containing any of the above mentioned keywords made by users with a post count of 5 and less, will go straight to the moderation queue. You can also try to post a post/thread without any of those spam keywords and then later try to edit it and sneak them in, the edit will not go through but it will also be blocked.

The same goes for all private messages, emails, signatures and visitor messages. They will be blocked too.

Thank you this is a nice hack, i have installed and its working great.

Speysider 07-27-2010 03:09 PM

Why do we need this hack when we can use Valters Advanced Permission hack? Rather pointless.

Both mods are different and everyone is free to use which ever he/she likes.

And stop posting useless rubish in my threads as you do everywhere else btw. If you have nothing constructive to add, then stay away.

Awesome! Thanks!

safakuygur 07-29-2010 12:31 PM

very good thanks

ifitsmedia 07-29-2010 04:09 PM

Ok I installed this but I am having problems with it.

I set the minimum posts to 10 and immediately got emails from members with 500+ posts saying that they could not post links. I had to disable it.

Any suggestions?

Same error here. I just tried to post and it said that:

"An error has occurred ***user! You must have 5 posts in order to post links. Your current post count is 3805."

At 3805 posts, it should work!

borbole 07-29-2010 05:07 PM

I am sorry for any inconvenience guys. Can you please try the new file and let me know? I tested it several times at my live and test forum and everything works fine.

Thank you for letting me know about the problem.

It is already added. You can exlude individual users and forums as well as usergroups :)

Installed.

giorgioarmani 08-25-2010 05:07 PM

Nominated!

Such a simple mod but clearly vital and effective to fight forum spam.

Thanks!

manofphat 08-26-2010 12:54 AM

Does this hack prevent users from placing links in their signatures as well?

giorgioarmani 08-26-2010 05:21 AM

I'm looking for any similar mod compatible with 3.8.0...

Anyone?

Merjawy 08-26-2010 07:19 AM

I like the idea, but the fact a message telling a user you need to have 5 or whatever number of posts to be able to post a link is just not good for me.. They will spam the board just to get the required posts in and then post links..

I do agree it will stop some spammers but not many

I might use it but will have to modify the error message so it won't mention the needed posts.

Thanks

No, it is only for posts.

Sure, you can modify the mod to your likings. If you are looking for an alternative, have a look at my other mod. It prevents posting of links on how many days a user is registered instead of number of posts.

I sure will.

Thanks mate

I found small bug. Create new thread with link in post. Get message about minimum post.

But, when I return to back, message lost. How fix it?

That is not a bug. The user gets the message about number of posts when he/she attempts to post links when posting and/or creating new threads.

You did not understand me. The user has created new thread with link and received an error message about minimum posts. User returns to the previous page (back) to correct the own post (remove link), but post the disappears (textarea is empty). How fix it?

Yes, I understood you but that is not a bug with my mod. That is how it is handeled by vb when an error occurs with the submission of the thread and not by my mod :)

abdicar 03-03-2011 01:34 AM

Hi there, I just install it and works fine. Where I can translate it to spanish?

davepkr 03-07-2011 09:14 PM

Installed, working perfectly BUT I have problems with it when users are trying to report posts as double posts/already posted applications etc etc where they add links. Sure, users can't report cause of this restriction.

Any way to resolve this issue?

Thanks.

desirulez 04-05-2011 01:14 PM

Does this work with vb 4.1.1?

Phaedrus 04-15-2011 12:00 AM

This one works in 4.1.3.. Good job.

can you update this, or make another mod that disables links in signatures until x posts?

Yes I can, however not as a free mod.

Just use promotions. Registered users can't use sigs, when they pass X number of posts they get promoted to the next level... say... "Verified Users"... At that point they can use sigs. It should solve your problem, unless there is a desperate need for newly registered users to have sigs.

This is how I currently do it, just looking for other options, as I'd rather allow them to have sigs, and just not links for a while.

Sorry if it has been asked already, but will this work on vBulletin 4.1.x?

dbonline 05-13-2011 10:48 PM

This is exactly what I was looking for. Just finished installing it, thanks!
