Time Based Greeting

1 Attachment(s)
A small mod which will change the default greeting (Welcome) to one based upon the time of day.

This mod is based upon:
* Time Greeting (Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening, Username) by Kinneas
* Ultimate Navbar for vB3.7 by Boofo

I updated Kinneas' mod for vb4 and added a few extra greetings based upon Boofo's mod.
Everything uses phrases (xxx_x_link_y).

Current Time & Phrase list:
  • 12:00 am - 1:59 am - Up late, aren't we, Dragonsys?
  • 2:00 am - 3:59 am - Having trouble sleeping, Dragonsys?
  • 4:00 am - 5:29 am - Still can't sleep, Dragonsys?
  • 5:39 am - 6:59 am - Aren't you the early bird, Dragonsys?
  • 7:00 am - 11:59 am - Good Morning, Dragonsys.
  • 12:00 pm - 12:59 pm - Enjoying your lunch break, Dragonsys?
  • 1: 00 pm - 4:59 pm - Good Afternoon, Dragonsys.
  • 5:00 pm - 5:59 pm - What's for dinner, Dragonsys?
  • 6:00 pm - 9:59 pm - Good Evening, Dragonsys.
  • 10:00 pm - 11:59 pm - Shouldn't you be going to bed soon, Dragonsys?

Thanks looks good kinda like vbenhancer.com product though - before his website disappeared.

Boofo 06-13-2010 05:50 AM

It would have been nice to be asked to use those, though. ;)

Sorry about that. I was looking at your old mod and saw it had been moved to the graveyard, and the files were removed. I was going to send you a PM, but it slipped my mind :erm:
I can change/remove it if you like.

Boofo 06-13-2010 07:39 AM

You are more than welcome to go ahead and use them. I plan on releasing the Ultimate Navbar for vb4 one of these days when I get around to it. Until then, I'll just use yours. ;)

Is there any conflict using this with Paul M's uread post mod? This was an issue with the 3.x series.

Not that I am aware of, but I do not use that mod by Paul M, so I cannot say for 100%. I believe, the conflict in 3.x was because of template changes, this mode just does a phase replacement.

Thanks I'll test it on my test forum this week. I think you are right on that too.

This mod uses the server time, not the user's time zone offset. Boofo has released his Ultimate Navbar greeting for vb4 which corrects this very issue. You can find it here - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=244573

Like Dragonsys said, this is based on the server time. There is no way around that as all users will see what the server time is set up for, no matter where they are from.

Correct. This is not affected by vBulletin Time or what timezone the user has selected.

I released that a long time ago. Check my profile at the bottom.

How can I go about styling this?

You would need to edit the Plugin itself. I suggest you try out Boofo's Ultimate Header Greeting for vB 4 as he has styling included already.

How do you get this greeting to work with header rework mod? https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=257261

I have not used that plugin, so I really do not know. I will try and look at it when I have some time, but I cannot promise anything.

Ramjet79 07-06-2011 08:46 PM

thanks for this... stylevars doesn't seem to be working for me though on 4.1.4... have my current live style, which is one color, and a new style I've been working on which is another color for the greeting... changing the stylevars doesn't seem to have an effect.

No biggie though. Thanks for your work...

EDIT: well, for whatever reason the stylevars seems to have taken effect now :)

I do not use that Header Rework Plugin, so I cannot promise compatibility.
