Skimlinks vBulletin Plugin

1 Attachment(s)
The new and improved Skimlinks vBulletin Plugin (version 2) is now available. Compatible with both vBulletin 3.0 and 4.0, it offers an alternative to the standard implementation of Skimlinks and is ideal for Forum owners who want to earn money from affiliate marketing without alienating their user base.

NB: You must be a Skimlinks Publisher for this plugin to work, if you are not a Skimlinks Publisher you can sign up now on http://skimlinks.com/register

  • User-centric: Ideal for forums with a more sensitive or tech savvy user base, or a low proportion of monetizable links;
  • Clean approach to affiliate marketing: Our Plugin only applies the Skimlinks redirect to links that can be affiliatized from merchants that your users will recognise, so non-monetizable links are left untouched;
  • Seamless user experience: As the page loads, the Skimlinks Plugin quickly checks every outbound URL and only converts links from merchants in our network, so there is no delay in rewriting links on users right-click;
  • Access to 9,000+ Skimlinks merchants: The Plugin regularly downloads the Skimlinks merchant database to the forum owner?s server so all the links that can be monetized are instantly converted.

You can see a example of Skimlinks in action a regular page here http://skimlinks.com/demo and a screen shot of the options page for the plugin below.

Hi ChopSuey,

There's not much to see with Skimlinks on your forum as all we do is affiliate enable your existing links. There nothing added to the page that is visible.

However I have updated the post with a Screenshot of our options page and a link to a page where you can see Skimlinks in action. You can also get lots of more information on our site http://skimlinks.com

Hi Animemike,

The downloading of the Skimlinks merchant database, is simply a API call to us that retrieves the latest list of all the domains we work with in JSON format. It then stores them locally in your database to make the plugin more efficient and to minimize the impact on on your forum users buy only enabling the domains we know we work with.

If you are a Skimlinks Publisher you can also search this list from inside your Skimlinks admin.

It is similar to that plugin yes, but with some with some key differences.

First we do not add any new links or turn any words into links. We simply convert your existing links generated by you and your users in posts, where they are to one of our 9,000+ merchants into an affiliate link.

Second you do not need to have any of your own affiliate accounts. We manage the whole process for you which allows you to earn money from all of our 9,000+ merchants straight away. We then pay you once all your commission's have cleared and you reach our $50/?35 minimum payout level.

Hope that helps!

I'm a big fan of skimlinks - works really well on my forum, though not currently using this plug-in (just the standard javascript)

Question: DOes the plugin work with links on blog and cms too or just forums?

Skimlinks,

I am planning to install this plugin, but reading the Read Me I have a question:
======================
Using your tool of choice, make the 'data' directory within the 'skimlinks' folder writable by the web server.
This usually takes the form of a 'chmod' command:

chmod -R 777 skimlinks/data
========================

I am no techie, so you could give a more detailed step by step instruction how to add this command?

Thanks

I imagine you don't use a SSH client or have experience with the commend line.

What FTP program do you use?

Basically, you want to right click on the data folder and make it so all have read (r), write (w) and execute (x) privileges. By all, I mean User, Group and World.

If you share what FTP program you have, I can probably provide a screenshot

I'm also VERY much looking to trying this server/plugin on a board doing 100k pageviews a day. Should be interesting to see what happens.

This is now implemented in vbulletin itself.

Skimlinks 02-19-2011 12:56 PM

As Alfa said, we are part of the core of vBulletin 4.1.2 and there is also a updated plugin available for earlier versions. The new plugin does not require you to chmod any directories and also provides you with much more options.

You can get a updated vBulletin or our plugin over here: https://members.vbulletin.com/skimlinks.php

Can i removed Skimlinks Plugin from vb4.1.2?
i mean completly and not only disable?

sweetguy2004 02-19-2011 02:51 PM

supports Adults & warez forums?

brandondrury 06-27-2011 01:16 PM

Is there a version of this plugin compatible with vB 4.1.4?

Thanks!
