Mod developer passed away. Please update pages.

The developer of the Links and Downloads Manager, Andrew, has passed away after a long period of illness.

I did not know him, did not follow the project until very recently but I think it could be appropriate if admins here would update his personal page, the project page etc to reflect the situation. After all, it seems he has been a very devoted developer with 3500 posts and a very well kept mod.

whitetigergrowl 05-19-2010 07:59 PM

Yep. This is confirmed. Sad too.

vbenhancer 05-19-2010 08:47 PM

i'll be in discussion with his company to see if i can handle a takeover of his work ... which can not be abandonned right away... and to respect his mind as well...

was a great friend of mine, if you do not know...

cad2go 05-19-2010 08:57 PM

He wasn't someone I knew well but from my few interactions with him and his code here he was someone I deeply respected.

Rest in peace Andrew

Thanks for all the kindness of spirit and generosity of soul you showed us all here.

Paul M 05-19-2010 09:09 PM

Yes, we are aware of this. I'll discuss updating his profile with the other staff.

The LDM is actually marked as Reusable code, so our rules allow someone to release updated versions.

Zachariah 05-19-2010 10:05 PM

sad to hear, he will be missed

ChopSuey 05-20-2010 12:11 AM

Exactly where is this story about him passing away?
Thanks for link.

Alfa1 posted in the 3.8/4.0 modifications thread.

It's a shame for such a talented and well respected modification author to pass away. I will probably try out the LDM on my forums eventually. Good luck to whoever takes up the project, and sad condolences to his parents.

3.8 is marked reusable, 4.0 is not.

Always a shame to hear.

Good point, LDM 2.3.0 is re-usable, but 3.0.2 is not.

Brandon Sheley 05-20-2010 12:23 PM

RS_Jelle 05-20-2010 07:49 PM

Boofo 05-20-2010 08:05 PM

Andrew was a great coder and supported his projects with grace and style. He will be missed.

borbole 05-20-2010 09:05 PM

May he rest in peace. I didn''t know the guy. What did he suffer from?

Alfa1 05-21-2010 01:24 AM

Andrew expressed the wish several times that Jelsoft would take over LDM. I hope that there is a way that this can happen.
Andrew spent years devoted to and always working on LDM. It would be a shame if LDM would fade away. The quality of the software is very high.

There are two downloads applications for vbulletin: DownloadsII and LDM. LDM being the advanced software. If LDM would stop working with vb4.1 that would leave vb admins without an advanced Downloads solution, while Andrew devoted so much time on this project.

Very sad to hear, had the pleasure of working with him in febuary.

My condolences to his family.

ShawnV 05-25-2010 01:44 PM

Andrew was a great guy, a superb developer, he will be greatly missed.

TNCclubman 05-25-2010 02:31 PM

Anyone know if there is a way around LDM being continued on if he died?

Reeve of shinra 05-25-2010 02:36 PM

My condolences to Andrew's family and friends. He seemed like a great guy, always helping people.

The copyright to the code would presumably fall into the possession of his family, so they could continue development/give their blessing for someone else to continue development.

Boofo 06-03-2010 03:04 PM

I wouldn't worry about the hack right now as to give time for Andrew's death to sink in and the family their time to grieve.

Well said Bob.
Condolences to Andrew's family and friends

May Andrew rest in peace; Andrew loved coding and shared his time & expertise generously. He was the most talented and and selfless person whom I knew on this board. His mod is complex in features and can be a product in itself.

Rahstyles 06-05-2010 10:33 AM

I pay my respects

zauha4 06-05-2010 09:05 PM

so sad..hope he will get peace there..

COL NIL SATIS 06-07-2010 02:56 PM

Real sad to hear...my thoughts are with his family

Phalynx 06-10-2010 06:52 AM

Really sad to hear that. I had a few contacts with Andrew regarding his hack, because we are using it intensive on all of our sites.
