4.0 latest Patch Member Login Issues Pls Help.

Hi,

i have had many complaints about login into my forum. I have the latest patch and everything but it seems not to work for some people? I dont know what to do anymore, pretty clueless why this is happening.

I even turned off double opt in but still having issues. It worked for myself so i dont know if it is my fault or the users fault?!

my forum is: http://myttoos.com/community

I would really appreciate if someone has an idea about this bug.

When you upgraded to the latest patch, did you run the upgrade_402_salt.php script like the announcement said to?

asus78 04-01-2010 03:07 PM

Yes, isnt that they only one offered?

mattyphatty 04-01-2010 11:53 PM

Our forum is having the same log in issues, but different error message.
Just says incorrect password, you have used 1 out of 5 tries blah blah blah.

2 members can not log in, Im sure there's more.

Just did the latest patch 2 days ago.

I asked if you manually went and ran that script. If you did not, you WILL have problems. Many, many, MANY people skipped that step. This is NOT a normal patch release where all you have to do is upload the files. You MUST run the script also.

yes Matty, that is the same with us. I have over a hundred having this issues.

What can we do about it?

As stated above by Lynne, did you run that upgrade_402_salt.php file? if you didn''t, try to do so and see if that would help.

mattyphatty 04-02-2010 06:43 PM

Ran the patch, but still having problems logging in.

mattyphatty 04-03-2010 08:13 PM

Yes, tried logging into their usenames myself, I got the incorrect password error.

Reupload all the files from the patch and then rerun the install/upgrade_402_salt.php file.

The instructions are NOT very clear on this. It leads one to believe that if you have sl2 or 3 you only need to upload the files.

The upgrade process is the same as previous patch level releases - simply download the patch from the Members Area, extract the files and upload to your webserver, overwriting the existing files. There is no upgrade script required if you are currently running 4.0.2 PL2 or PL3. If running 4.0.2 or 4.0.2 PL1 see the details below as the process is slightly different.

As with all security-based releases, we recommend that all customers upgrade as soon as possible in order to prevent any potential damage resulting from the flaw being exploited.

There is no need to run an upgrade script if you are already running the latest version (4.0.2 PL3).

If you are running 4.0.2, or 4.0.2 PL1 you should follow these steps.
1) Download the 4.0.2 PL4 patch files.
2) Set your site to be offline.
3) Make sure your install directory still exists. If not, upload the install directory from your vBulletin package to your vBulletin directory, leaving out install/install.php.
4) Upload the patch files to your vBulletin directory.
5) Run the url http://your.site.com/vBdirectory/ins...e_402_salt.php
6) Set your site to be online.
This will address all PL fixes, including the fixes contained in 4.0.2 PL3. It is not necessary to run any other scripts.
Is step 5 required even when the statement reads otherwise? I am not trying to be smart but I am not a seasoned vBulletin member and if I read that a script run is not required that how can I be sure when the instructions are as written?

Uploaded files again and ran script. Members are noting that they can log in. Thanks Lynne.

Ok thanks. So when i do this now can those 40o members login with the same password or do i have to generate a new password for each one by one now?

Not sure how i can do that auto. to so many people now? Any suggestions?

rome200379 04-05-2010 05:15 PM

Mine have the same problem with you.. Members cannot login to the forum..

asus78 04-05-2010 06:12 PM

I am very upset about this.

I have paid a lot of money and now 400 people wont be able to login and probably will have to reregister.

I mean, what the hell is vbulletin thinking?

Did they have to register again? A few of mine said it still doesnt work so i guess they have to register again or is it still not working? I just did as Lynne told us to do.

asus78 04-07-2010 08:51 PM

Why do i have to pay so much money and it is still not working although I have done everything and still some people cant login with the generated password.

That is really ++++ed up....
