WeMovie.co.uk

Hi guys,
I'd like to know what people think about our new forum WeMovie. It's VERY new and we're still adding content, etc. but I'd like to hear opinions about how it's looking at the moment.
Thank you.

http://www.wemovie.co.uk
WeMovie is a forum dedicated to discussing the latest and greatest in film.

Board is under maintenance.... :/

Rahstyles 03-25-2010 08:54 AM

Cant find

WeMovie.co.uk 06-03-2010 08:57 PM

Sorry. Was having some problems over the last few months and had to postpone any work on the forum. The forum is now back and totally redone. I'd love to hear people's thoughts???

Please remember this forum is very new (Ive literally JUST opened it to the public) and there's still alot to do.

I'd particularly like to know what people think about the way I've done the Actors and Actresses forums which are ordered by last name. I'm not sure how else to lay this out and I tried different ways to show each actor's forum and this way seemed to take up the least room. Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

Can you make the board viewable to guests? Can't really make an impression if there's nothing to see! :]

WeMovie.co.uk 06-03-2010 09:59 PM

It is viewable to guests... I can see it when Im logged out.
The CMS was up but not viewable to guests, but the forum still was.
Ive had to disable the CMS for now anyway.
Sorry for the confusion.

ChopSuey 06-04-2010 12:08 AM

Turn off "Show lock icon to guests" ;)

WeMovie.co.uk 06-04-2010 04:03 PM

That's the icon to show locked forums.

I guess it shows up when a certain usergroup doesnt have posting permissions, right?

Where do I turn off "show lock icon to guests"?

Edit: OK well the only way I figured I could turn off the lock showing for guests is to change the lock icon altogether. So I've just had to use the original image minus the lock.

:)

Sorry, when I first visited the site, I was presented with nothing but a log-in box, which is obviously a turn off for anybody visiting, but this has changed now - I see the board.

Looks good so far, just needs all that content! :]

WeMovie.co.uk 06-05-2010 10:27 AM

Hiya,
Yeh the login box was on the CMS. I need to update a modification for the CMS to work though so I'll be doing that soon and then working on the CMS.

Thanks for your comments. :)

I don't really know what content I can add to the forum without looking like I'm just talking to myself. Haha!

Hopefully once the CMS is done it will look more "full".

I almost completely missed the actors names after clicking on a letter, in my case, D... I expected the sub-forums would be listed in larger fonts, maybe in boxes/tables... instead it was just a small font with names next to each other... Also the ones I looked at had no posts.. Maybe combine all the actors pages into 1 for now until you have more traffic and use thread prefixes for actor names? Just a suggestion.

EDIT- I also have to say I was a little annoyed with your "Random Question" when registering... I got "Who directed Avatar?" - now granted I know it was the biggest grossing movie ever and you are a movie fan site, but I for one had no idea who directed, stared, or acted in it- just not details I ever cared to learn... and even if it was a movie that I knew who directed, like ET, I probably would spell the name wrong... It's just a big turn off if you don't know the answer and need to Google it- you really need members at the moment- would remove ANY impediments to joining until you absolutely have to.

EDIT2- Usually in forums on the lower right after all the posts in a thread is a drop down box to link you back to the forum you were just viewing. On your site the default link seems go be somewhere else? At quick glance I couldn't find a link back to the forum at all in the box it seemed. I see, what's missing is the "Go" button, it's a real annoyance to have to scroll past every letter in the alphabet, twice, to get to most forums in that box.

WeMovie.co.uk 06-06-2010 07:38 PM

Hey. Thankyou for your comments.

Re. the actors/actresses forums... it took me SUCH a long time to add each forum the way that I have that I really don't want to remove all the forums again and then have to add them again at a later date. Maybe if I just changed the size of the font, because I do agree it is too small. I did originally have each forum viewable but I figured once more actors are added it's going to take people too long to scroll down the page looking for the actor they want. Does that make sense? This way it takes up less room, yknow.

OK I'll remove the random question. The only reason I had it there is cause I dont want loads of spam bots signing up, which has been a real issue with past forums Ive owned.
OK I've changed the question to 'What Is 1 + 1?' I think most people can get that right.

Regarding your 3rd point... Im sorry but I dont know what you mean. Maybe because I never use this feature so Ive never noticed it before. If something is missing I can only blame the skin, cause as far as I know I havent removed any of the default features.

Your comments have been very helpful. Thankyou. :)

BirdOPrey5 06-06-2010 07:52 PM

The 3rd point- If you scroll down the window you're reading right now, a couple of inches below the "Quick Reply" box on the right it says (on vBulletin.org) Forum Jump and in the box is Community Reviews and a "Go" button... Your forum lacks the "Go" button, probably a skin issue, but it means I can't get back to the forum by simply clicking "Go" - I have to go to the drop down box and go back to the forum name for the page to actually change.

WeMovie.co.uk 06-06-2010 08:01 PM

Oh yeh I see what you mean.
There is a Quick Navigation drop down box above the quick reply box on the forum.
Is this not the same as the Forum Jump?

There is but it's missing the "go" button, so to use it I have to click on it, then scroll all the way through it, then click on the forum name, and only then does it work... Usually I'd just click on "Go" because the forum I was viewing is already pre-selected.

WeMovie.co.uk 06-06-2010 08:25 PM

Ooh I see. Gotcha.
I'm afraid I don't think there's anything I can do about that unless the person who created the skin updates it.
I would just change the skin but this is the only one I've found which I actually like.
Rubbish.

BirdOPrey5 06-06-2010 08:30 PM

another thing, this may be an error in vB 4 and not your specific forum but I've never noticed it before... If I browse with IE8 and don't use compatibility view the postbits are messed up- the text of the post is in a separate box below the side-bar of the post itself. Hard to explain but suffice to say it looks very bad to someone not using compatibility view on IE8.

WeMovie.co.uk 06-06-2010 08:37 PM

Hmmm... how can I know whether this is a fault with vB or with my forum?

I've just had a quick look using IE and it looks absolutely fine to me... but maybe I'm using compatibility view...

You probably are... IE setup asks you if you want to use them during first use and they recommend "Yes" so it's not that big a deal, most people I'd guess use it. You could just find another VB 4 forum and turn off compatibility view (there is an icon to the right of the URL to turn it on/off) and see if posts look right... might just be something I never noticed/tried before.

WeMovie.co.uk 06-07-2010 10:54 AM

I've taken your advice about the actor/actresses forums and just merged them all into one forum.

I also checked IE not using compatibility view and I see what you mean. I can only hope that anyone using IE who visits the forum has compatibility view turned on.

Rahstyles 06-07-2010 12:04 PM

Cool site.. but slow

WeMovie.co.uk 06-07-2010 12:43 PM

Thanks for your comments.

Slow how? Loading time? How can I fix this?
It loads perfectly fine on my comp.

BirdOPrey5 06-07-2010 12:53 PM

I also had no issues with load time personally, but on a 20 meg fiber connection here.

WeMovie.co.uk 07-15-2010 02:03 PM

Hello all,

WeMovie has had a complete revamp!

Please let me know what you think.

The CMS isn't done at all, as you can probably see. I'd like opinions on the FORUM. Not the CMS. Thankyou.

We had to reinstall the forum and cms again and start from fresh so if you had an account with us before you'll need to re-register. Sorry about that.

Overall looks a lot better, more unique- but some of your fonts are being lost to the background and their contrast just isn't enough- screen shot attached.

WeMovie.co.uk 07-15-2010 03:54 PM

I too noticed that but not sure how to change it. Do you know where I'd do this?

Thanks for your comments. :)

BirdOPrey5 07-15-2010 04:52 PM

Should be in Style Manager -> All Style Options should be all your colors and such.

WeMovie.co.uk 07-15-2010 05:07 PM

Oh yeh Duh!
Safe thanks.

Hi. I had a look in the StyleVars and can't find an option to change the colour of those links.
Does anyone know where I can find it?

BirdOPrey5 07-16-2010 11:51 PM

It's possible they are hard coded in the template or more likely additional css... view source, see what attributes it has and work backwards from there.
