Follow Us links and Info on Forumhome for Social Sites

1 Attachment(s)
If you have your website listed at other places like Twitter, Facebook, or Myspace. Then you may find this mod handy. When you install this mod it will place a forum box at the bottom of your site above "What's going on"

Features:
  • Link to your site's Facebook Fan Page, Twitter, and Myspace
  • Adjustable left and right margins for images
  • Add extra info into the box along with the Image Links
  • Use HTML in the Follow Us box
  • You can place the box anywhere by placing <!-- {FOLLOWUS} --> in any template
  • You can resize the content box and images via AdminCP

Install:
  • Upload the image folder to your forum root
  • Install product file
  • Set your settings in AdminCP and Enable

I would like to give a huge thanks to Vaupell for letting me use his code as a template. It was a huge help to me. This is my first real mod that I have made so any feedback would be wonderful.

To Do:
  • Have options to turn off the site links that you don't need
  • Add more Follow Us sites. Example: Blogger maybe

crazyace 03-19-2010 09:25 PM

*Update 1.1

I found a small mistake with the myspace code. I had left off the address when I was debugging. This has now been fixed. Just overwrite the old product file with the 1.1 product file.

*Update 1.2

I added Paul M.'s mod removal code and I also added version numbers to the file as well.

*Update 1.3

For users that have forums in a forum directory, the image code in the product file was causing the images not to show up because, it wasn't looking in the right directory due to a "/" on the front of the image code. This has now been tested and corrected.

*Update 1.4

Added YouTube Groups. You can now add the "Follow Us" box anywhere by using <!-- {FOLLOWUS} --> in any template. You can now control the size of the images and the content box. Enjoy!

*Update 1.5

Updated product code to work with vB 4.0.7 - ( Work is in progress on creating options to enable and disable different parts of the mod. )

Thanks Vaupell, and thanks again for the template.

anilbhat 03-20-2010 10:16 AM

How i can display it just below the navbar !
I also want this in my lading page. that is content.php page, one where you publish articles

ChopSuey 03-20-2010 10:40 AM

Same thing as my mod, but its products :) Good work though.

anilbhat 03-20-2010 02:25 PM

Also, is it possible to reduce the size, its taking too much space. I would love to have 3 small icons just near sign in area

Thanks

nekiw 03-20-2010 02:26 PM

the box is displayed on the top, right above forum and under header as well as on bottom.
Is it possible to have it displayed only on bottom? have uninstalled for now.

SuperGLS 03-20-2010 04:00 PM

Could there be a spot for a YouTube group? That would make this great.

crazyace 03-20-2010 08:42 PM

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm on my blackberry right now. But I will be home later today and I will try to answer everyones questions. Also I will add some more options to the code to where you can control more of the size. I will also add the youtube icon as well. Lots of changes to come in 1.4 :)

For now I don't have an option installed for placement. I will look into doing that. It won't be possible for 1.4 but I hope to have it done in a later version.

I will add more options to control the size of the icons and the box. However, if you make the images to small they may get distorted. But I will see what options I can install for it.

I'm sorry but I have no idea why it would do that. The code is super simple and it should only be at the bottom. If you would like to install it and then give me a link to your site I will take a look at it.

I will have the YouTube group added in 1.4 - Thanks for the idea.

Now that I have added the option to place <!-- {FOLLOWUS} --> in any template you can now add it to the bottom of your CMS in the "vbcms_content_section_page" template. Thanks for the feedback!

Larry523 03-23-2010 03:26 AM

Great mod! But I'll wait until the option to turn off unneeded links is available. Renaming the graphics files leave an ugly red X with a broken (unused) link. It makes it look like a part of my site doesn't work properly.

gsmlover4u 03-23-2010 06:04 AM

where is youtube group image ?

I wasn't able to find one that said "Youtube Group" If you can find me one I would be happy to add it. I may have one made.

CrosseyedGamer 03-23-2010 03:11 PM

Was just about to ask the same question.. No youtube image ..

CrosseyedGamer 03-23-2010 03:15 PM

there are a million youtube images. :-)
I just added one myself but it does not show up. Is the path set correctly and what does the image name need to be ?

I have it as youtube_follow_us.png

thanks.

this is simply the base image for youtube. Note this is a jpeg and I am doing a search of png file now. I suspect that was why it did not show up even though I changed the name.

I'm so sorry about the file missing. It was in my testing folder still. I had forgotten to move it over after I worked out the last of my known bugs. I have reuploaded the folder now and it has the youtube image file in it.

I still don't understand what the difference is between the two versions. ??

In the stand alone version, you can add it any where you want with out having it always show up in the forumhome. With this version, it will always be in the forumhome area, and then you can also add it in different areas with the code. That's the only difference. Because I'm new to coding, I don't know how to make an option to allow you to disable one part of the code while another is enabled. That's why I have two versions of it. But as time goes on, I will learn more and add more options to it :-) Just hard for me to make time to learn code on the side right now. My wedding is coming up soon and man I'm I ever tired of going to dress shops and other things that come with wedding planing.

Thanks. I'll try the standalone version on my test site to getter a better feel.

Good luck. Married 21+ years. You do it right, you only have to do it once.

Yeah I'm sorry that I don't have an option for that yet. But as soon as I learn how I will add it :-)

I uploaded a folder that has new image sizes in it. The sizes are in different folders. This way you can use smaller size images if you need to and they will still look great!

Sizes: 48x28 and 95x55

ps2wiz 03-25-2010 06:58 PM

Very nice idea, and I plan to install it as as soon as a new version is released that gives me the option of turning options off without removing images. I don't think that's too healthy, but your work is indeed appreciated!

Thanks, I have it in beta right now. I'm just trying to work out the code to let me have the options I need.

Thanks, I look forward to using the new version. Any estimates on when it will be released?

Also, if it isn't too much trouble could you please add the option to only apply this mod for a specific style. I don't wish for this mod to be active for every style that I have installed.

Thank you

Thank you

I'm still working on giving it options to turn different options on and off. I'm not sure how to make it only work on one style and not another.

A little bit. Now that work is starting to calm down I will start to have more time to work on this :) I promise I'm not going to abandon my MOD. It's just finding time in life at the moment to work on it. I may also work with a friend of mine on it that's a coder as well. That way I can maybe get new ideas added.

crazyace 05-02-2010 03:46 PM

So for 1.5 I was able add in a controls to allow you to disable things like twitter, myspace ect. But the Only issue I have is that now, I can't do it with the content box. So I would like to ask everyone if they would be ok with that option?

So now you would have the 4 images or less if you wanted, but with no box around all of them.

ps2wiz 05-02-2010 09:31 PM

What do you exactly mean by context box? Are you referring to the whole collapsible box that integrates into the template style - inside which the social network images reside? If yes, then I wouldn't not want to use this mod... It would be very tacky in my opinion to just place this images without the content box.

Yeah, That's what I was thinking. I'm still trying to think of a way to edit the code to have that option. I'm sure that I'll come up with a solution soon. Its all about experimenting right now.

This guy has a similar mod, maybe he can help. Or maybe you can just look through his code.
