Sending PM and posting New Thread issue

I've just tried sending a PM and posting new thread but everytime I click the "Submit Message"and/or "Submit New Thread" buttons I receive a 404 error - cannot connect to server. The issue seems to be with the newest versions of Opera, Firefox and Google Chrome - I've never had an issue with these browsers before. I'm posting this thread via IE 8, but I imagine the issue is on the other browsers I have installed as well.

So - Just a heads-up that this needs to be fixed. :)

Thanks,

Jacquii.

Hmmm - now IE does the same thing... Very odd. I'm now posting this message via Safari.... I imagine this will not work shortly. Have I been placed on some not-installed "miserable users" type list? Has anyone else experienced such issues?

Jacquii.

TimberFloorAu 03-17-2010 10:22 PM

I cannot reply to messages, or pms with FF or Chrome

Just get Page not found with Chrome.
In FF it tries to open up all clicks as a php file

Digital Jedi 03-17-2010 10:44 PM

So that's what that was. Yes, in Chrome, the page would hang would submitted, go to Not Found if I persisted and load a white page when refreshed. I'm in Opera for the moment.

Pretty much nothing involving the POST method was doing anything, including PMs, Replies, Threads or email forms.

JacquiiDesigns 03-17-2010 10:58 PM

It's an weird issue - Glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing it - I was becoming paranoid for 3 seconds or so... Hope it's fixed soon.

Jacquii.

(posted in Apple Safari btw...)

TimberFloorAu 03-18-2010 02:12 AM

MOved on to a spare Lappy, cos I cannot reply to anything on vb.org or .com

On any browser.

Think we have a secret society !

Ideal Web Tech 03-18-2010 06:27 AM

I can confirm this problem. Right now the only browser that seems to be working is safari. I have cleared cookies and temp files to verify that it wasnt a problem. This was done and tested in every browser. I have noticed this problem since early this afternoon. The problem exists on every computer I tested as well.

Paul M 03-18-2010 08:11 AM

I take it whatever this was has gone away since I'm having no issues.

(IE 7 atm)

Mark.B 03-18-2010 08:20 AM

No, it's a problem. I have had to post this through a mobile phone.

Same issue on vbulletin.com too.

Speysider 03-18-2010 09:38 AM

I tried posting a reply on my computer and it didn't work. I'm posting this on my iPod touch

Paul: the issue is clearly NOT fixed

Videx 03-18-2010 11:02 AM

Thanks for the hint about Safari - downloaded and installed so I could post this. I too have been unable to post here since yesterday. It was working fine late Tuesday night, and I had no trouble at vb.com yesterday.

I cleared my caches and cookies, and unplugged my modem last night for about 7 hours.

Chrome threw an odd error this morning when trying to use the full reply box: Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error.

Paul M 03-18-2010 11:59 AM

Well, having tried from work - its broken in IE6.

Im using FF 3.0 atm, thats sometimes ok.

It seems to be an apache problem - browsers are seeing the connection as being reset - some seem more tolerant of the issue.

Its not vb.org, its all sites on the server. Unfortunately, its sill very early over on the US west coast (almost 6am) so I expect we will have to wait a little longer for it to be fixed.

Paul M 03-18-2010 12:40 PM

Seems to work better for me if I disable javascript, which may be why mobile devices are not affected.

Mike Anime 03-18-2010 03:06 PM

everything seams fine now.

that or slimbrowser is not affected.

Sovereign 03-18-2010 04:05 PM

Get "Connection Reset" (Firefox) and "Page Not Found" (IE8). Safari works (for posting). Cannot use quick-reply in FF or IE either.

mandingo 03-18-2010 04:32 PM

Cannot reply to anything in FF,using Konqueror for this post.

akanevsky 03-18-2010 05:05 PM

I cannot reply or send private messages in FireFox. Using Internet Explorer for this post.

Blooded 03-18-2010 05:34 PM

same here with firefox 3.6

cant post or reply :(

works well in ie

Marco van Herwaarden 03-18-2010 06:16 PM

Now posting with FF. IE doesn't work for me anymore, even not after cleaning cache and a reboot.

Marco van Herwaarden 03-18-2010 07:06 PM

It looks like we have the situation under control again. All the vBulletin sites should work as normal again now.

For those wondering, no this was not vBulletin related.

zeroality 03-18-2010 07:19 PM

Yes, I just had this problem on Chrome. I am using firefox now and it works.

TimberFloorAu 03-18-2010 07:34 PM

Thanks Marco, could you tell us what it was ?

Videx 03-18-2010 11:50 PM

Yes, but as with all other problems we encounter here, it would be nice to know exactly what can cause this type of problem. And what steps need to be taken to solve it.

Digital Jedi 03-19-2010 01:32 AM

Pretty much couldn't post at all today. Nothing would let me in.

Agreed.

TimberFloorAu 03-19-2010 06:19 AM

Funnily enough, first thing we did was nip onto Java.com and see if we were out of date or had issues. Everything was fine, so presumed it was "too many simultaneous connections" on the vb servers.

Marco van Herwaarden 03-19-2010 09:02 AM

After a lot of testing it turned out to be a firewall setting. Changing the firewall config solved the issues.

And where did i say that?

Videx 03-19-2010 10:40 PM

Firewall? You mean Safari and all these other browsers can blow right past firewalls? Yikes! Can anyone explain that one to me?

Paul M 03-20-2010 12:46 AM

No, it doesnt mean that at all.

He means Paul.

I doubt that as he is quoting my name.

I was just clarifying who said what in all the concussion.

RS_Jelle 03-21-2010 07:31 AM

I'm still having problems to post.

I can't post a reply with a quote of this post. I'm getting a "Bad Request" error in Firefox 3.6 and IE8.

This looks like a mod_security block?

--------------- Added [DATE]1269162518[/DATE] at [TIME]1269162518[/TIME] ---------------

Strange, my reply is in place. Though I'm still getting those errors.

I can confirm this, and yes it also looks like a mod_security issue to me.

Is it only this 1 post, or does anyone have the same on other posts/threads?

grandeur_69 03-22-2010 12:22 AM

i'm having the problem here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...98#post2006798

--------------- Added [DATE]1269221149[/DATE] at [TIME]1269221149[/TIME] ---------------

seems to be related maybe to the amount of text being sent ... or type of text. I simple message works, but i'm trying to include some SQL statements with the code block and some double-quoted stuff and one of them must be causing a problem.

--------------- Added [DATE]1269221268[/DATE] at [TIME]1269221268[/TIME] ---------------

seems that I can't type the word: A L T E R T A B L E as an actual word, even if i put it in a [ code ] block

Marco van Herwaarden 03-22-2010 07:10 AM

I have not heard back from the technical guys yet, but it does sound more and more like someone has been over active with adding rules to mod_security.

Speysider 03-22-2010 10:58 AM

mod_security = fail.
Maybe there should just be one sticky where every error on vB.org gets posted?

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=238043 :(

Paul M 03-23-2010 05:45 PM

Just linking to a thread is not very helpful.

FYI, This appears to be a firewall issue.

TimberFloorAu 03-23-2010 08:17 PM

Getting Bad Request : 400 response when doing a large post ( say 500 words + )
Still occuring now
