Wery strange, cause if you look in the plugin it only removed the button from navbar..

Maybe explain what else it removes from your site ?

It also removes the "Mark Forums Read" from Search.

I'm using this on my website (www.swtorholocron.com)

I just wanted to say thank you for this! I'm really surprised there isn't a default option to disable the "Whats New" link.

Thanks again!! :D

I think you have a template issue, i am unable to replicate on several boards
or a dev board..

Attachment 116242

a few things more needed to be able to help ...
- got a link, error, log, screenshot or anything to might help debug why
this happens to you ?
- Does it also do that on a "blank" or "fresh" vb 4 template for you ?
im almost 95% sure its the style/template your using causing the problems.

HolyKiller 04-24-2010 02:52 PM

Ah, sorry, my fault, everything works like a charm.

Thanks for the useful mod :)

At first i was gonna ignore this, (usually when i se a mod i dont understand, i just moveon)
And i dont want to be rude, but sure feel a troll comeing up..

But since you have plenty of room on your site..

Many sites have limited width and therefor also a limited space
for main buttons/links. And considering that it would be better
using the space for links suited for the specifik site..

Hence removeing the button.

IN SHORT
if you dont understand it, ITS NOT DESIGNED FOR YOU!! :cool:

Appreciate the clarification and feedback ...

DreamnetRob 06-14-2010 02:37 PM

THANK YOU .... this worked perfectly. Tried several different pluggins and this was the best. Simple and does what it says.

Preech 06-14-2010 07:53 PM

Thank you. Worked with no problems.

TrailRecon 07-07-2010 03:22 PM

Thank you for this.

Also, to keep the sub nav buttons under the Forum tab (even when on Search.php)

Go to the NAVBAR template...Search for:
Code:

{vb:raw template_hook.navtab_start}
and just below you will see:

Code:

<vb:if condition="!$vboptions['selectednavtab'] AND THIS_SCRIPT != 'search'">
Remove:
Code:

AND THIS_SCRIPT != 'search'
So you are left with
Code:

{vb:raw template_hook.navtab_start}
<vb:if condition="!$vboptions['selectednavtab']">

For me, it was wasted clicks and inconsistent design.

IMO, the navbar tabs show you what section you are in. If you are on the home tab it should be home pages...if you are on forum pages you should be on the forum tab. It is inconsistent to have 2 tabs for the forums. Also, there are different options available under whats new and forum so you have to click back and forth to get to the option you want.

For example if you click "new posts" it automatically takes you to the "what's new" tab but if you wanted to see who is online next you would have to click back to forum tab then who is online.

If you do the quick edit I posted above in combination with this authors mod then every page of the forum you will always be on the forum tab and always have the same navigation options.

It makes way more since, is more consistent and saves users clicks and frustration

Works perfectly! Thank you! :)

My objection to the What's New? is that it is showing posts that should be hidden. So a regular user can see posts that are in a forum that is limited to only administrators. I thought there would be some way to block that but I haven't seen it in looking around for a while. So this mod is good news for me.
