[DBTech] Username Change v1 (vB4)

1 Attachment(s)
What is Username Change?
Username Change is Brought to you by the Designer of products such as RPG Inferno and Inferno vBShout and the programmer of RPG Integration v3.

Username Change from DragonByte Tech is a modification designed to allow users to change their usernames at will (within your configured limits, of course).

About Username Change
Your members will no longer bug you for username changes, you can let them change it whenever they want!

It also has a history feature in the member profile, showing a list of previous usernames. This history feature uses vBulletin's own Profile Change history - no additional tables needed!

Please remember to click the, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2015/08/2.png button to the right if you installed the mod ---->

What does 'Marking As Installed' do ?

* It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified by us whenever new updates are available.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention.

Is it possible to have only a certain UserGroup be able to edit the username? I have a 100k+ forum and I'm the only one who can do it currently (through AdminCP), but I want my moderators to be able to update people's user names. Or better yet, is there a plugin that allows certain usergroups update user profiles? Currently vB allows moderators to login to ModCP but they cannot save any profile.

Thanks

Kolbi 02-26-2010 09:51 PM

Another nice hack :)

Yeah, that's entirely possible, the usergroup permissions lets you control who can change their own (or others') usernames :)

utahraves 02-26-2010 10:11 PM

I do not see how to change the username from the user cp.

Edit: It is under EDIT PROFILE.
Might want to clarify above.

Styling issue. See attachment.

It is on both sides of the table.

It is on both sides of the table.

That happens because of the way the area is automatically added to the templates (to avoid template edits).
I'm not sure if this can be fixed :(

u wanna post a screenshot of ADMIN CP option please.

BlackJacket 02-27-2010 02:38 AM

Options needed -

Ability to have users change their username once. This option should not be in days.

Thanks! Tagged, installed and nominated.

Hall of Famer 02-27-2010 08:25 AM

Is it possible to specify which usergroups can change their usernames on their own?

DragonByte Tech 02-27-2010 08:45 AM

Yes, you can set different options per usergroup including who can change their own username, who can change other peoples, and how often they can change their username =)

This mod is designed for letting people change their usernames more often than once, though.
I'd recommend just setting the days option to an absurdly high number :p

I just installed this and went into my profile. It says I changed my username on 2/14, but I didn't... is there a way to reset the last time someone changed their name?

DragonByte Tech 02-27-2010 10:05 AM

No, because it uses vBulletin's integrated Profile Change history.
If you go into your AdminCP -> Search for Users -> your own username -> [Profile History], you will see that the 2/14 corresponds to the last time you made a change to your own username :)

hilfe-forum 02-27-2010 10:50 AM

Cool Install
;)

GrossKopf 02-27-2010 11:02 AM

I can see how this would conflict with the Point Market mod. With that mod, you can add colors to your username, make it bold, etc, which effectively "changes" your username.

DragonByte Tech 02-27-2010 11:34 AM

Nah, those things don't edit your username in this way. That mod just extends the "markup username" (you know, the HTML Markup option you have in Usergroup Manager?).

Thanks, Installed

TheChaosFactor 02-27-2010 04:03 PM

This will be one of the first mod's I install once I upgrade.

Fillip

I did that but it did not give them an option to change their username.

DragonByte Tech 02-27-2010 05:14 PM

Can you ask them to give a screenshot of the Edit Profile page? Unless the "Can Change Own Username" is turned off, it should tell them why they can't change their username

y will waith for the beta to pass and then instal it :D

Fillip

Says they need to wait 656,xxx more days to change username. All permissions are set correctly.

DragonByte Tech 02-27-2010 06:08 PM

I've found the bug, it'll be fixed shortly. I'm going to investigate whether it's possible for me to add a direct link to ModCP in a user's profile before uploading the new version :)

If possible, could you add a feature to allow the user to only change their name one time. I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Thank you.

Okay, I'll delay the new version until I've implemented this feature :)

That is outside the scope of this modification, but we may make a separate modification with this feature :)

v1.1.0 has been released, which fixes all known bugs and implements a requested feature: It's now possible to limit the number of username changes on a per-usergroup basis!

The mod is also now considered out of Beta.

Works! Just a heads up though, when you set the days to 0 and the number of times they can change their username to 1, when the user goes to change their username they see "you may change your username as often as you want" instead of "You may only change your username once"

Switch3130 02-28-2010 07:49 PM

Can we set a list of usernames that can't be used by users who have access to this feature?

DragonByte Tech 02-28-2010 07:55 PM

Not yet, but it sounds like a good idea for a future design.

If you want to post it over at the main site so we don't forget about it (we probably won't be upgrading the username change mod for at least another week) theres more chance of it geting taken care of.

We'll try to get it added ASAP either way, as long as we remember haha!

Well, technically they can cause... um... ...yea okay, you got me there ;)

Dunno if I can be bothered to fix it though, it's just a cosmetic issue xP
I'll sort it when I have some free time.

Not beyond vBulletin's ban word list / integrated vBulletin username history locking feature.

Well please add that soon because this does no good for me until this is added.
