What people are saying?
  • Kevin Michaluk, Co-founder Crackberry.com: "Insights does an outstanding job giving us an instant overview of what's happening in real time on the CrackBerry.com forums. There's always a ton of activity and sometimes it's hard to keep up. Gravity Insights not only shows us which threads are the most active, but also gives us an easy way to identify new members who are contributing great content."
  • Ed Rieker, President of PbNation: "There are a lot of generic analytics services out there. Gravity Insights is NOT one of them. Insights does an amazing job of distilling all the activity in our community into useful information. Monitoring the forum in real-time has also never been easier. Because of Gravity Insights, I now know exactly what's happening on our site. The Gravity team is outstanding, a pleasure to work with and very responsive to our needs. I highly recommend them."
  • Patrick Clinger, President and CEO, ProBoards, Inc.:"With Gravity Insights I can see what's happening across the millions of ProBoards forums. Gravity Insights is the first analytics service that I've found that includes relevant forum statistics and can scale to meet our heavy traffic volume. As a big analytics user, I continue to be surprised by all the new things I'm discovering with Gravity Insights."

How does Gravity Insights work?
It?s pretty simple. Gravity Insights is a standard vBulletin plugin. Once installed, Gravity Insights puts a lightweight beacon (similar to Google Analytics) on every vBulletin generated webpage. In addition, Gravity Insights has custom hooks that initiate asynchronous server-to-server calls between your vBulletin server and the Gravity Insights servers. These hooks allow Gravity Insights to track all the things that standard analytics software can?t track (like new threads, new replies, new member registrations, etc.).

Requirements to use Gravity Insights
Gravity Insights has been tested with very large and very small forums. You?ll need vBulletin version 3.6 or later to use Gravity Insights. Gravity Insights also supports phpBB, Vanilla Forums, and ProBoards.

Legal stuff?
Gravity Insights is copyright protected by Project Rover, Inc. You?re free to use Gravity Insights (subject to our terms and privacy policy) on any vBulletin forum for which you hold a valid license.

Anything else?
Drop us an email at insights@gravity.com if you have any questions.

If you try Gravity Insights, please click mark as installed and rate the plugin to show your support. And again, let us know what you think ? good or bad! How can we make Gravity Insights better for you?

HoSStiA 02-19-2010 02:39 AM

How to config Thread Mask etc. for forum with vBSEO installed?

gravityinsights 02-19-2010 03:48 AM

HoSStiA - The default thread mask should work fine. vbSEO renames your URLs, but leaves vBulletin's thread structure intact. A quick example using vbseo.com:
*vbSEO thread URL: http://www.vbseo.com/f55/subdomain-41325/
*standard vBulletin thread URL: http://www.vbseo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41325

Both URLs render the same thread. So, the mask would simply be http://www.vbseo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=%thread_id%

I'm happy to check out your site and let you know how to setup the mask. PM me an URL for a random thread.

You'll find screenshots on the Gravity site.

Some feedback, install was quick and easy and it's interesting to see the realtime visitors online and stats but I am not really sure if this are at the moment really usefull informations (for me). One bug, if clicking on a thread listed under Today's Most Viewed Conversations there opens a new page but says not input files specified.
Serverload seems normal although this is catching informations on real-time. One question, what's happening if your Gravity site is down for any reasons? Will this result any bad impact to my site?

Thanks for this addon.

Ramsesx - Thanks for the feedback!

Regarding the thread bug, clicking the thread should take you to a preview of the thread. If it doesn't work, check that you set up your thread mask properly (in Account Settings -> Manage Sites).

Regarding your question, the Gravity Insights beacon is very light, so you should not notice any latency. If Gravity were ever to go down, we'd simply miss activity on your site during that time. Your site will still load properly and request to our servers will quickly timeout.

Greight 02-24-2010 07:37 AM

Please post some screenshots.

raistlinthewiz 02-24-2010 10:55 AM

i've installed insights on my 4.0.2 pl1 forums but it brokes the forum layout when i enable it...

check the screenshot:

Storyteller69 02-24-2010 11:11 AM

How is the transfer of the user IP addresses handled? Are thereby completely transmitted and evaluated, or they are partially "rendered useless"?

This is great stuff - I've been having some issues with accuracy, but otherwise I'm very impressed and this blows any other forum stats option (especially vBulletin's built-in horror) out of the water.

Kudos, Gravity. :)

molieman 02-24-2010 05:44 PM

Installed a vB 4.0.2. p1

FANTASTIC!!!!! Thank you from a number cruncher :) :) :)

Lost white background color on forum page, after install. :(

pitt34 02-24-2010 05:47 PM

One question and one problem:

How to change timezone in Gravity Insights Dashboard?

I have something like that "czy akap nie jest rwnia pochy do niewolnictwa? " in Today's Most Viewed Conversations in Dashboard.

We're not supporting multiple time zones for the time being. All times are in Pacific time (UTC -8). Sorry. :(

Regarding the crazy characters, we may be having some character encoding issues. Let me know if you keep seeing things like that.

Thanks!

I think the background color issue is the same as the bad footer error noted by some other users. Workin on it! :)

Thanks
But I did not understand why I need your site to get the Google Analytics data

Love love love my gravity insights! Some very awesome information and they guys have been very prompt with assistance when I've needed it. We're running it on a private forum with about 5500 members at this point.

Did I mention I love it!

lemonadesoda 02-24-2010 06:28 PM

^^Private forum? What information is transmitted to Gravity Insights?

If you have Gravity Insights installed, when a user visits your community you transmit traffic information (such as which webpages a user views) and user activity information (such as post content and related metadata). By transmitting this information to us, we are able to enable Gravity Insight's killer features without putting a significant load on your servers.

TBH, I think gravity have done an EXCELLENT job. Looks great, and nice info. But be warned about privacy/confidentiality issues if it is relevant to you.

Are you going to support multiple time zones?

Sorry, I didn't desribe the problem precisely. "Crazy characters" are instead Polish diacritic sings, so you don't support latin-2 encoding.

pokesph 02-24-2010 07:14 PM

works great on our 3.8.x BIG Board.. love the 'insight' this plugin / service provides about our activity, members and so on.

great job and I hope there are even more features added soon.

Trek 02-24-2010 07:25 PM

Tagged, waiting for an update that fixes the forum color issue people have mentioned before I install (I have a dark theme, don't wanna whack it out). =)

Looks interesting though.

One question, what is your privacy policy? Who, what and where do you share our information with?

Snug 02-24-2010 07:39 PM

Ok, found two bugs, had to uninstall

Post a new event in the calender screws up the form, the second is, when ever you select threads to delete/close/etc. it doesnt get recognized and says you did not select valid thread(s)

septimus 02-24-2010 08:41 PM

We have this installed on 4 forums, some of which are VERY large and everything is working great. It's wonderful to be able to get a different way to identify trending threads and important users.

Thanks Trek. I'll post something when the footer/color issue is resolved.

re: privacy, at a high level, we collect information about how end-users use your forum, and then share that information with you (the forum admin). We also, reserve the right to share information with subsidiaries, service providers, and partners so that we can provide the service to you (the forum admin), and of course we reserve the right to share info to satisfy the law or prevent abuse of the service. That's about it. Take a look at our privacy policy for more details (note: this is written from the perspective of an end-suer).

Hi Dacho,
Gravity Insights is focused on community analytics.

Things Gravity Insights will give you that google will not:

Realtime Stats - online users, searches, daily rollups, etc...
Trending Topics - What are your users really talking about
In the workds - Natural language processing to allow you dive deeper into who your users are
User Segmentation
Realtime Images/New Threads - shows images coming in as they're posted.

There are many more features in the works, we're currently running on some of the largest vbulletin forums on the net.

If you have any questions ping me at insights@gravity.com

thanks

Thanks for the link. I just finished reading through it and have one question.

Quote:

Measured Data. When you visit a Gravity Insights Site, we also collect Measured Data including clickstream data such as your IP address, browser type, web pages that you have viewed, time of access, searches made on the applicable website, and other statistics, and user generated content such as text, posts, images, and other media that you knowingly contribute.
Does this mean that the entire contents of threads/replies are sent? Including any inline images, etc?

If this is true, thanks but no thanks. =) I'd love to use the service, but I don't see any reason why I'd want threads protected by user permissions groups on my forums to be sent, analyzed and used by anyone else. Data collected for statistical purposes makes sense, but post content and images. Do not, at least to me.
