Register Redirect. Now updated with the requested extra feature.

1 Attachment(s)
This is a small hack that will allow you to redirect your members to an url of your choise after they register at your forum. It works on both registration methods. For the Instant registration when no emaila ctivisation is needed and for Activating Acount method as well, in which case the user will be redirected to the url of your choosing immediately after he/she activates his/her account from the email address that they have been registerd at your forum.

The url can be an internal one, i.e. to the rules section of your forum or at the Introduction area, or it can be an external url.

You can enable and disable this hack at the Acp of your forum. You can also enter there the url to where you want to redirect your users to after they register at your forum and/or after they activate their account.

thanks

borbole 02-10-2010 04:47 PM

You are welcome. Thank you as well for clicking the Install button :)

vb4newb 02-10-2010 04:49 PM

Thanks does it redirect before person is validated, or after?

borbole 02-10-2010 05:23 PM

It redirects immediately after the user is registered.

vb4newb 02-10-2010 05:34 PM

Okay thanks

borbole 02-10-2010 05:35 PM

You are welcome.

iguano 02-10-2010 05:35 PM

At a user come out this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE, expecting ';' in /************/forum/fbb/runbox_hook_register_addmember_complete.php on line 5

borbole 02-10-2010 05:41 PM

That is strange. I have tested it thoroughly with multiple accounts before I released it and I never had any errors. Does it happen only to one user? How about you, does it happen to you as well?

Edit: Just tested it again to make double sure and there was no error what so ever.

iguano 02-10-2010 05:45 PM

Yes only one user registred until now

borbole 02-10-2010 05:48 PM

Can you try to register a test account and see if it will happen to you as well? I am at loss as to what that user has got that error because as I said the hack works fine without any errors.

vb4newb 02-10-2010 05:55 PM

I registered after uninstalling Stop Forum spam and it works perfect.
The Stop Forum Spam even blocked me.

steve1966 02-10-2010 05:58 PM

iguano 02-10-2010 05:59 PM

and after 10 second redirect to custome page or to rules

borbole 02-10-2010 06:42 PM

Well it would work better once they have followed the email registration link..

vijayninel 02-11-2010 02:48 AM

I had to change the version number but its working great on 3.8.4

I suggest that you put this up in 3.8 mods as well.

Alecsmith 02-11-2010 07:26 AM

Installed :)

borbole 02-11-2010 01:30 PM

Now updated to include redirection from the email address activation as well. It covers both methods of registrations.

Enjoy it and thank you to all for your comments/feedbacks and suggestions :)

I don''t have a 3.8 forum to test it but if you say that it works fine at that version as well, I will submit it there as well then.

vijayninel 02-11-2010 03:54 PM

Yup.... works great on my live 3.8.4 board. You can check it out here http://www.erodov.com/

Thanks to this mod our new members dont have to read the ugly and sometimes confusing default vB message. Now they are automatically directed to the forums index page and greeted by a welcome PM Popup.

Edit: I haven't tested it with the updated version which includes redirection from the email address activation. We dont have a e-mail verification system so we dont need that.

Can you test it with a test account at your test forum and let me know if it will work with that option as well? It would be faster than me setting up a 3.8 test forum to just test the hack. Probably it will work as well but I want to make totally sure before submitting it at the 3.8 section.

steve1966 02-11-2010 05:11 PM

thanks perfect nominated

borbole 02-11-2010 07:14 PM

You are welcome. And thanks also for the nomination.

Extra PC 02-12-2010 01:25 AM

thanx for update but there is big bug here

after member register and receive Activation message and when he click on the link to active his account his account not activeted just redirect to the custom page ...

we need fix this bug and make the redirect after see this message (thanx ur account activated now u can go to CP ......)

vb4newb 02-12-2010 01:32 AM

yes happened to me so just chose redirect after register to one section of the rules where they have read only permission to read the rules. They also can see my notice saying they still have to verify email. So it works good this way.

That is not a bug but it is supposed to work that way. And the account is activated first before the redirection. But if you want to redirect before they activate their email address, then disable the email activation redirection as it works the same with the first option, the instant resdirection. Which will redirect the users immediately no matter how the regitration method is set.

dmknights 02-25-2010 08:16 PM

Sunray2 02-27-2010 12:25 AM

Will this work with multiple usergroups that are restricted to specific forums?

GamerPerfection 04-14-2010 09:56 AM

I have a question. I have a Mod on my site that will create an automatic Welcome thread on the forum upon registration. Is it possible at all to get this Register Redirect Mod to redirect a user to their own specific automatically created welcome thread?

I can get it to redirect to the forum section containing the welcome threads, but I wondered if it is possible to get the redirect to go to the thread even though the thread is not created until the registration is complete. Question is can it grab the newly created link to the thread?

Rahstyles 04-15-2010 09:54 AM

Your my hero!!!!! This is just as good as the force post read

BadgerDog 05-09-2010 04:43 PM

For clarity, as I'm a slow learner .. :D

So, if this mod is set with a single mod option turned ON to redirect to a specific page, ONLY after they click on the validation email (or use the code in that email if the link doesn't work for them), the mod will not show the default vBulletin "confirmed" message, but rather will simply direct the user to the designated page?

Even though he never sees the default vBulletin message, he DOES get validated and becomes a Registered user ... correct?

Regards,
Badger
