Minimum Number of posts to send PM''s. Updated with extra option)

1 Attachment(s)
With this hack you will be able to set a minimum number of posts for your users in order to send Personal Messages.

After installing the hack, go to Settings-Options-Private Messaging Options. There you can enable and disable the hack. You can also enter the minimum number of posts for your users in order to send Personal Messages. By default it is set to 5 posts. You can also choose which User Groups and Individual users will be excluded from the post limit.

A new option added which will allow those users who are below the post count limit to send pm to contact a member of the staff.

The new mod can be downloaded from its thread at my forum for free. Which is the support thread for the mod as well.

Zaiaku 02-08-2010 06:36 PM

It was meant more to fight spam through the pm system.

I am lost. The mod you linked above is about Advanced Forum Rules. It has nothing to do with my mod. It restrict users to pm if they don''t accept the rules whereas my mod is totally different.

But if you don''t like my mod, you don''t have to use it, very simple :)

I linked the wrong one. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=233979 is with the post count. And this has nothing to do with your mod, I was replying to the other poster that this existed.

That mod with the post count is for a lot of things. Whereas my mod is only for pm''s. For users that want to use that for the PM system only.

fishmaster 02-24-2010 10:01 AM

Been waiting for this!

GONUMBER6 03-21-2010 03:18 PM

Thanks, I think someone has been spamming my site via PMs so this should help! :)

Stanthrax 03-25-2010 09:37 AM

I've read if you change the dependency in the XML file that this should work for VB 3.8 as well. Is this correct?

I can''t say for sure as I don''t use vb 3 but give it a go at your test forum and if it works please let me know.

Stanthrax 03-25-2010 09:50 PM

I've changed the dependency minversion to 3.6.0 in the XML and tested it on a 3.8 test site. Everything seems to work great! I've installed it on my live site and if I find any problems post them here. Thanks for the awesome mod!

Glad to hear that it worked for you :)

Thank you for this great mod.

I have one idea, what would you say to make an additional function of the mod:

I mean by the time user reach the X number of posts he can send a pm to admins only.

Atm I don''t plan to add extra options to the mod for lack of free time.

Yup, agreed. All newly registered members at my forum receive auto PM (from Admin) with certain instructions. Many of them reply without even posting yet. Borbole's mod is great as usual, but prevents replies from zero posters. I sure hope he finds some free time to add this option.

Follow up ...

Just ran various tests with 4.04pl1 and with minimum post count needed set to 1, I was able to select "Send PM" to any member. No blocking message appeared and it went straight to the vBulletin editor screen to permitting any registered member (Group 2) with a post count of 0 to freely send PM's.

What am I missing?

Badger

Wreck713 08-13-2010 03:34 PM

would this work on 3.8?

Yes, it should work on vb 3.8 as well.

BadgerDog 08-13-2010 06:26 PM

No, as stated, it's permitting Registered Users from Usergroup 2 which is not in the excluded list.... Any idea why it's letting them send PM's?

I'm using 4.04pl1 ...

Thanks .. :)

Badger

I tested it and I can''t reproduce that at my forum. I am at loss as to why you have that.

Wreck713 08-13-2010 08:40 PM

Do you mean that users under the post count set by admin to be able to pm the staff only?

I went back and did some more testing ...

It simply doesn't seem to intercept a registered member (UserGroup 2) and present the screen advising them that they can't send PM's until they make a post.

Badger
