First of all should be ready on Friday. Haven't decided yet the price. Most probably $50 if I add all the features that I'm thinking:
  • Brand free as all my PRO mods
  • Unlimited mailinglists
  • Subscriptions form as Widget in vbCMS
  • Subscription form in Forumhome
  • User must confirm subscription (can turn off)
  • Templates as messages eg an auto email with last threads

That's pretty steep for me. Great MOD though. Any chance of getting a discount having purchased one of your old MOD's - vBArticles, which is now obsolete for me since there is now vB4?

It's written in my main post. You must hand write the URL to newsletter.php This is because in a couple of days (if not tomorrow), I'll post an update giving you the ability to rename the filename to anything you want. This is for even more security, even if nobody can access it if he hasn't permissions to do.

I'll give it to you for free. No problem at all as you're an old client.

That would be great Maria. How would I obtain it from you? I will still plan on making some kind of donation though as I have always appreciated the MODs you have provided to the vBulletin community.

Of course I can add. I've added all types of ads in my other mods. Just because this mod is for use by admin and/or moderators, I thought that is better to not include it in the navbar. Even if it will not be visible to members, maybe it will take a long space from admin's navbar. "Newsletter" is a bit long word:-)

You must register to my site and PM me, when you'll see that I'll release it.

nice idea a bit pricy, i would like to see a new feature for the pro version during registration time, if they subscribe to the newsletter it will update the mailing list

by clicking yes or no

I'll appreciate if you (in general) let any comment for the commercial version, to be discussed in my site, otherwise I'll be banned again from here.

just another question Maria: i've just created a new message and clicked 'submit' but i haven't received any message from my board ... what's the trouble? maybe i need to set something else?

we_are_borg 01-26-2010 04:17 PM

Very nice mod indeed.

The only point i have is that the mod does not track bounced emails if it could do that it would be great.

Don't compare it with vb's option "Email Users". This is a mailing list manager. In simple words the messages are stored and reusable. But the most important point is that you've the ability to send the email at a time that your server has not so much trafiic.

Steps for sending an email:
  1. Create the message. You can insert images, styling the text etc.
  2. Save the message
  3. Create a campaign by assigning the mailinglist to send (in free version there is only one mailinglist), the message and the time that you want to send the message.
  4. Save the campaign
  5. The automatic cron runs every hour (you can change it from cron manager). If you want to send it right now, you must go to cron manager and click "Run now" the cron microNEWSLETTER Campaigns.

yeppp.... don't expect everything in the first release:)

Carnage 01-26-2010 04:24 PM

tagged, but without the ability to track bounces its of next to no use to me; I've already got the default vb mailer.

I know, but something important as bounces :). Without to track bounces it not so good a newsletter plugin would rate it a 7 without it. I must say it looks good from what i can see in the screenshots.

Also is it wise to link to your site in emails because if the system is being abused you PR will go down.

NFLfbJunkie 01-26-2010 04:37 PM

I created a message and then a campaign. I set for the campaign to run at 1:30 PM EST and changed to cron job to run every half hour. But the newsletter did not send at or after 1:30 PM.

Is your server time the same with yours? In anycase I found bugs on using crons. vB bypass even its own crons. The mod is working well, that's why when you click "Run now", you're getting the message "Done". So, its about a vB's bug.

Maria

NFLfbJunkie 01-26-2010 04:44 PM

Even when I initiate the cron myself, it does ay DONE, but still nothing happens; and the cron job time stays the same.

Do you mean that the emails never sent? That's impossible. I've full my mailbox with test campaigns, and an hour ago I sent a mailing to my members. They got the email.
Please note that after a successfull campaign its marked as completed and you can't send it again. In this case the "Done" that you see at cron's screen is just an information that it run the job. Check at your front-end if this campaign is marked "Finished".

** By runing manually a cron the scheduled time does not change.

Maria

NFLfbJunkie 01-26-2010 05:12 PM

Yes, the emails never sent. Knowing this I have set up another campaign to run at 2:30 PM and the cron job is set to run at this time also. I'll let you know how it goes.

NFLfbJunkie 01-26-2010 05:35 PM

Still doesn't work for me. 2:30 PM EST has passed and the campaign status still says 'scheduled'. The cron job reset it self to 3:30 PM. The campaign cron job doesn't show in my scheduled task log.

if you have cpanel you may want to check mail log manager
it will show whats left to send and why it hasnt been sent

NFLfbJunkie 01-26-2010 05:51 PM

I have cPanel but do not have exactly 'mail log manager'. I have the 'Email Address to include as: From Email' set as my personal email. Does this email need to be a domain email address, such as contact@mysite.com?

NFLfbJunkie 01-26-2010 06:09 PM

I also just realized I can't edit messages. When I click edit all I get is the original subject but the message doesn't show.

To check for valid/invalid email address, I'm using the native vB function "is_valid_email()". Normally it must reject the email and continue to the next one. Strange that it brings mysql error.

missing $db->escape_string?

Krali 01-27-2010 06:46 AM

What is the link for users to unsubscribe?

I want to add it under a navigation button in the main menu, not only in the newsletter mail.

Great Mod and looking forward to full (pro) version.

I don't think so, as this is just a few lines before. Actually the problem is why this email has been accepted. I also added this function in the cron, just for an additional security check, but the problem is before, during record's save.

I seen again the code, and seems to me correct:
Code:

    $vbulletin->input->clean_array_gpc('p', array(
        'subscriberid'  => TYPE_INT,
        'groupid'      => TYPE_INT,
  'email'      => TYPE_STR
 ));
    // Get Values
    $subscriberid = $vbulletin->GPC['subscriberid'];
    $groupid = $vbulletin->GPC['groupid'];
 $email = $db->escape_string($vbulletin->GPC['email']);
    if($subscriberid != 0)
    {
      if(is_valid_email($email))
      {
          $vbulletin->db->query_write("UPDATE " . TABLE_PREFIX . "micronewsletter_subscribers
                                      SET groupid = '$groupid',
                                          email = '$email' WHERE id=$subscriberid");
      } else {
        $vbulletin->url="newsletter.php?" . $vbulletin->session->vars['sessionurl'] . "do=main&tab=5";
        eval(print_standard_redirect('micronewsletter_invalid_email', true, true));
      }
    } else {
      if(is_valid_email($email))
      {

First I'm escaping the string and then I'm checking for valid email address. The only that maybe is wrong, is if it needs something else than "TYPE_STR". Is there "TYPE_EMAIL" ??

Maria
