Post order is wierd...

when users are signed out the post order inside a tread is normal. opening post on top and posts going down under it. but when users are signed in its reverse...opening post on the bottom of the page and posts going up above it. How do i correct this so posts always go below the opening post???

Check the Settings > Forum Settings > thread Display Mode. Also, check to see what you have set for Thread Display Mod for new users in vboptions > Registration options

i dont see a thread display mode option in forum settings...

in registration options the thread mode display is set to "Linear Newest First"

Lynne 01-15-2010 05:47 PM

I am talking about your Settings tab (used to be User CP).

Newest first means the new posts are shown first - the exact opposite of how it is shown here.

speedimpulse 01-17-2010 11:58 PM

i changed it to linear oldest first but it hasnt solved the problem...

Lynne 01-18-2010 03:32 AM

So you changed the order in your User CP also and it is still showing wrong?

speedimpulse 01-18-2010 06:23 PM

yes ive changed it in user registration

Lynne 01-18-2010 06:57 PM

In my last post, I didn't say in user registration, I said in your User CP or Settings > Forum Settings area - profile.php?do=editoptions

speedimpulse 01-19-2010 02:19 AM

i went to setting>options>user registration options> and changed the default thread display mode to linear oldest first.

i cannot find this option anywhere else in the setting>options area. im running vB 4.0

Lynne 01-19-2010 02:43 AM

No, I am not talking about in the admin cp. Go to your main forums and click on User CP, which is now called Settings in the upper right corner, on your site and then click on Forum Settings from the left column. The link is yoursite.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

speedimpulse 01-19-2010 05:12 PM

ok that solved the problem. but how do i make that a default so EVERY member wont have to go to change it?

Lynne 01-19-2010 06:04 PM

You may change it for everyone in Maintenance > execute SQL query > automatic query. Make sure you have given yourself permissions to run queries in your config.php page.

speedimpulse 01-19-2010 07:47 PM

oh jesus, how do i get to the config.php page? thanks for the help!!!

Lynne 01-19-2010 09:36 PM

You may want to familiarize yourself with the vbulletin manual. Editing the vBulletin Configuration File

speedimpulse 01-20-2010 03:04 PM

ok that helps me edit the file but i cannot seem to find the config.php file itself. i found every other file possible... queries.php editor.php but not the config.php. im looking in the vbulletin zip folder > upload folder

Lynne 01-20-2010 03:14 PM

The very first line of that page tells you where it is:
Quote:

Before uploading the vBulletin files to your web server, you must edit the vBulletin configuration file (includes/config.php) to tell vBulletin how to communicate with your database.
So, ftp to your site, go to find all your forum files, find the directory 'includes' and in there is the file config.php

Assuming this is the right line of code:
Quote:

$config['SpecialUsers']['canrunqueries'] = '';
For some reason, I'm still not allowed to execute an sql query.

You are not authorized to execute SQL queries
Here's how I provided it:
Code:

$config['SpecialUsers']['canrunqueries'] = '1,3';
