I installed this, but I deleted it because it gave a greyish like background, and the sub forum words was smooshed in with the description text of the parent forum.

VonDoom 01-14-2010 12:33 PM

Oh man you are a life saver ive needed the ten columns since ive upgraded to 4.0 Will be installing shortly. So glad to see this back in 4.0

KURTZ 01-14-2010 12:41 PM

You just need to set the plethora of option in ACP/Options

Installed Confirmed working, and rated 5 stars

Veer 01-14-2010 01:19 PM

Rated, Installed and Nominated of course :)

Thanks Sorky.

Question: Will this version upgrade my existing installation of 3.8 version? I think not because you have changed the productid.

Alex@Mk3OC 01-14-2010 01:23 PM

Sweet, thank you for updating this, tagged it for install tonight

Muggz562 01-14-2010 01:28 PM

Works good for me. Is there anyway to get rid of the "sub forum" text?

Bram H 01-14-2010 01:49 PM

There is a bug in firefox where the subforums overlap the forum description. For the rest super that this mod returned!

anaksimandros 01-14-2010 03:36 PM

very nice hack, but a lot of unnecessary features.

It should be simple ...

voglermc 01-14-2010 04:04 PM

simple it is NOT, uninstalled sorry

hey there.. i just found a temp fix for this:
( mod dev can remove it, anytime he wants)

Admincp>Sorky01 - SubForum List Control - V2.0.0
Look for "Other Formatting Options (Global)"
Second last option
Replace the text with this

Code:

<br><h4 class="subforumlistlabel">' . vB_Template_Runtime::parsePhrase("subforums") . ':</h4>
---------------

Installed >>> Marked as Installed >> Nominated >> Added 5 Star

texasteamplayer 01-14-2010 04:31 PM

works great. just what we needed.

I disagree, i love and need the control this mod offers. Thats why i had uninstalled the other sub forum hack available here. the lack of features did not suit my needs. Ive been waiting for this to become available and am happy as punch its here. and as far as being over complicated. that may be true for some but really easy to figure out i had installed it on my forum and configured it in about three minutes. i love that it allows you to manage different forums sub cats in different ways depending on how many columns you need. it really makes for a nice clean overall professional look.

Big-Pete 01-14-2010 04:57 PM

Where do we set the background colour?

VonDoom, May I ask what mod you use to get the subforum pictures to show as you have them in your attachment??

VonDoom 01-14-2010 05:09 PM

I changed the images myself but displaying them is a built in feature of this hack.

Quote:

bgcolor="transparent" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="0"
bgcolor="transparent" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="1"
style="font-size:12px;" bgcolor="transparent"

have you wrote only 'transparent' or what? :)

VonDoom 01-14-2010 06:42 PM

"transparent" with the quotes. replacing the Html color code example replace the "#000000" with "transparent"

Thanks for that VonDoom, using "transparent" made mine go a blue colour, but i've now replaced transparent with #090909 (dark grey / light black) and all looks normal again, now just need to add images to forums and sort out form layout..
:)

Is it possible to remove the last post column for the subforums you like to display?
I always liked that feature on the steam support forums: click for example

Alex@Mk3OC 01-14-2010 08:26 PM

Installed and it's spot on as usual :D

They are using my PlugIn ;-) If you are referring to "Steam Game Discussions", then I believe that is simply setup as a Category (do not act as a forum). Below you will see "Media" which is a standard Forum with SubForums.

Thanks Sorky.

Question: Will this version upgrade my existing installation of 3.8 version? I think not because you have changed the productid.

"I guess not" Correct - Two comments...

This version will not operate on 3.8 and likewise the 3.8 version will not operate on 4.0
Both can be installed together (but only one should be enabled at a time) which makes it easy to migrate your options (install new, set options, disable old, enable new, remove old).

I see this has been covered, but will mention it anyway...

Options a-plenty to allow you to do just about anything you want! Without creating a full guide (which no-one would probably read anyway) I set some options by default. This gives the installer an idea of some of the things that can be done.

Simply clear/wipe/erase/empty all the option fields and start from scratch if that helps ;-)

Not designed to be simple - Designed to be Powerful/Functional/Useful ;-)

No skin off my nose if you use it or not :p

Yep - There is an option - just clear it to remove the text completely.

Put <br> at the start of the SubForum heading! NICE ;-)

I believe the intent behind the new template/styles of vBulletin 4 is to adjust all the appearances through the CSS. In this case, setting the the 'h4' style for the 'SubForums' class.

My own tests gave me varying results, but they were over several versions of vB4 from Beta onwards and the results did change between versions. I'll see how vb4 stabilizes before I jump in and make changes.
