Help with Changing Article backgrounds
1 Attachment(s)
Hey All,
I'm looking at trying to modify some of the elements on the CMS page and in the Forums, but, I'm running in to a Few issues. Currently, I've dug through all the stylevars, and the CMS guides but all of them seem to skip the 2 items I'd like to mod (at a minimum for starters). I'm going to assume this is doable - but not through the stylevars. So, for Starters - We'd Like to do the following: Set Common > Body_Background to a Color Set The Displayed Articles, on the Main pages, (and when Clicked on) to not be transparent (I've set an example below). Ideally, we can then have the Articles posted with a different color font BG to make them easier to read if we use a sharp contrasted Color. I've Attached an image with Both Changes that we'd like to modify - can someone comment on the ability to do so? If you'd like a full look at the page you can do so Here Thanks! -Chris |
Silent_Stam,
You are currently showing up as unlicensed. To be able to download modifications and/or receive support here at vBulletin.org, we ask you to please click here (vB-Germany users click here) and enter your email address. You will need to use your customer number and password (which will be in the email you got when you paid for your license) to access that page. Please note that your email is case sensitive. To protect our customers privacy you will also need to Opt-In to license validation for all Support Sites. You must authorise vBulletin.org in order to validate your license status here. You can do this at the page linked above for your distributor. Make sure to set the permission to allow vBulletin.org to validate your status. The update of your account can take up to one hour. Thank you. ****** Also, please see this notice - Installation Issues / Questions or bug reports regarding default vBulletin 4.0 |
I believe the unlicensed has been sorted - it was due to an email change i made to track the Thread (for notifications).
If this is not the place to post concerning Default 4.0 questions - then what would i be 'allowed' to post here, as its my 1st post, and we've just purchased the software recently. I'll post the same on vb.com and see if anything can be sorted - appologies for the confusion as i was under the impression that this was the 'official' place to post for tweaking VB. |

vbulletin.com is the site where you purchase the software and get help with that default software. vbulletin.org is their sister site where you come to talk about modifications - modifying your styles or modifying your code. This site is run by volunteers, but we do try to help you figure out any problem you are having with your modifications. |
The only way I could find to do this was by adding background-color to .article in vbcms.css - works only on full article pages. I assume you can do the same for previews.
It took me forever to figure out and then I promptly changed it back because it didn't look right. Now I have to figure out how to put some padding around the article body text. :erm: |
yes i was wondering the same.. how to put different background pictures to certain articles?
if anyone can give a step by step how to, that would rock! |
Thanks for the replys on this so far. I Tried the .article css change, and id gave something decent, but - as you said, did not change the main page articles or the main blog page posts, only the individual article/blog view.
I'm going to assume that there would be a DIV that controls the articles/blogs and the layout of them (2x1 column/etc) I just need to dig through the css and have a look. As i'm still new at this if anyone finds it before I do, please fire me a line, would be great to add that bkg and maybe a border to seperate the main page posts a bit cleaner. Quick edit... i looked at the html for Vbcms_Page, and noticed a <div class="vbcms_content"> modifying the div, naturally, modified the entire background of that div, which included the are behind the blocks and section nav. I'll keep looking, hopefully to find where vbcms_content class is defined and see what can be tweaked in there, or, if that class is referring again to some other class for the page. Thanks all :) --------------- Added [DATE]1263765855[/DATE] at [TIME]1263765855[/TIME] --------------- Got it: vbcms.css > div.article_preview There are however, 2 div.article_previews, I modified the 2nd one, not sure what the 1st one does, but we'll find out. @SpaceCatGV - from what it looks, the article preview is controlled strictly by 1 class, so it will most likely take some modifications to get that sorted. Ideally, depending on how many posts per page are there, you'll need to define a preview 1, preview 2 etc. --------------- Added [DATE]1263766794[/DATE] at [TIME]1263766794[/TIME] --------------- I'm now running in to the same issue with padding, and adding padding-left and padding-right doesn't seem to be modifying the font in those div's... If it's not one thing, its another :) |
Hi Silent Stam
May i ask how you created the bar behind your news articles? I am looking to do that myself but then in a lighter grey. But i have no clue what to change. |
Hey Bram,
The Black bar (Currently just experimenting with it) was added by modifying the following lines: vbcms.css Code:
div.title { If you can find solutions to either independently changing the article bkg, and being able to align so that it takes 100%, please let me know :) |
Thanks man, going to experiment a little with it. If i have a fitting solution ill let you know!
|
Tried it, it works but don't like the style of it (yet). It would be great if each article could have a fixed box to fit in (like widgets).
The CMS is so poor at the moment. |

Well, i've changed the original design quite a bit since the previous posts, and scrapped the black DIV background because well, it just looked off. However, I'm still trying to figure out a way to correctly add padding to the article text, so that it's not so sturck to a border. If anyone has info regarding it please shoot me a line, I really want to move the text over about 5 pixels so its not so stuck to the border.
-Chris --------------- Added [DATE]1265844022[/DATE] at [TIME]1265844022[/TIME] --------------- Firebug to the rescue!! Modified the following classes in vbcmc.css and moved all the content in article previews over 5 px! .fullwidth Modified to 98% to compensate for the shifting of the text 5 pixels added padding-left: 5px; h3.arctile_preview added padding-left: 5px; cms_article_username (careful there's a few entries for this class) added padding-left: 5px; cms_article_section_location added padding-left: 5px; and now, voila, White Article background, with a black border, not touching the blocks, and 5 pixel padding on the left side. Cute! SS Attached! |
i am also needing help adding padding. i change the padding in the coding but the article content doesn't move over.
|
Allstar - Did you read the previous post. I was able to move all the padding on the article.

Also, if you're not very familiar with CSS, Punctuation, and spacing is important. The correct code is: padding-left: 5px; and NOT [S]added[/S] padding-left: 5px; This includes the ; after the end of the style. Hope it helps :) |
