eg. old chrome -> update to the new chrome link is shown.
old FF -> update to the new FF link is shown etc.

linuxututs 12-31-2009 04:13 AM

here this is what I was gonna do with it.

I was gonna change it to this....

PHP Code:

</strongIt appears that you are using an out dated web browser Internet Explorer 6.  While you may still visit this website we encourage you to upgrade your web browser so you can enjoy all the rich features this website offers as well as other websitesFollow this link to <a href=\"http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx\" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><strong>Upgrade your Internet Explorer</strong></a><strong>Or better Yet, Get FireFox!</strong><strong>A Much More Secure, Faster Web Browser</strong><a href="http://www.mozilla.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><strong>Get FireFox</strong></a>

Needed the rel="nofollow" in there for-real. ( IMO ) :)

Thanks,

Update To v1.1
Changelog:
v1.0 : Initial release.
v1.1 : Fix Bugs
: Alert Message Put In A Phrase

Charlie98902 12-31-2009 09:58 AM

Does this put the notice above the header or below the navbar? I want it below the navbar personally.

abdobasha2004 12-31-2009 09:59 AM

thanks
but mods like this may disturb visitors
you can make an option for members only because hey are the active writing ones

wheres me jumpa 12-31-2009 10:31 AM

I would agree with abdobasha2004. I am not a fan of arriving at websites that tell me what browser I should be using. An alert/advisory note for existing members would be more suited.

Agree 100%, new visitors might think it's a virus or spam of some sort. I like the mod and will add it if could be only viewable to members.

BR's

-Patrick :)

Charlie98902 12-31-2009 11:12 AM

You could just rephrase the message to be more informational rather than scary too though I would think.

phonexpo 12-31-2009 11:33 AM

I suppose that's another option :). But if Danny can mod it for members only, I'd rather that.

BR's

Charlie98902 12-31-2009 12:31 PM

Would be nice I can see your point on guest viewing it. I saw another site I went to state "you are using a popup or ad blocker please disable as the ads pay for our site" LOL Half those ads are why people use those programs as they bog things down. Sorry to get off topic.

dannyheath 12-31-2009 02:25 PM

in the next update if i get it to work you can put what you what as the text i will let you no tomaz thanks danny

radmoose 12-31-2009 04:21 PM

I posted a request for this type of mod on here a few days ago, so it is nice to see a mod come to light.

As mentioned before, it would be nice to determine what usergroup gets to see it (it should allow multiple not just one.)

Also, it would be nice to be able to have it check for various browser-types (such as outdated Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc.)

I also agree that it should be within the site like a Notice instead of attached to the top.

Another option. set it as "Persistent" if desired as well as if it is "Dismissable" or not.

Bouncer222 12-31-2009 10:46 PM

There seems to be an issue with this mod that I believe no one here yet noticed and it could greatly affect your SEO because if you're not logged in, you get this error and are unable to view forums. Here is the error: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...-Not-Logged-in

I now uninstalled this mod, because of the error and also because they are right, visitors wouldn't like it as well. But that's just me.

fourat 01-01-2010 11:15 AM

good i hope fixing vb4 compatibility with IE6

albibak 01-01-2010 11:21 AM

It's not for fixing the compatibility, but just an alert for your members to update their IE if they have IE 6 ;)

dannyheath 01-01-2010 02:10 PM

i will report back when i fix the mod

cosy 01-01-2010 10:53 PM

is there a option to deny access for any version of IE ?

dannyheath 01-02-2010 05:21 AM

sorry for take long i am fixing the big bug sorry danny

cellarius 01-02-2010 01:49 PM

Two things in your mod you can't do:
- putting html directly into the plugin in the way you did, to print it to screen directly - and you cannot add a whole second html site structure to the existing one of vB4 (<html><head></head><body></body></html>)

Sorry to say this, although it's a good idea and I appreciate the work, this mod is nowhere near ready for use and breaks vB4 installations, thus generating work for support staff elsewhere. Please remove the download package from firstpost until you get this right, I have seen several errors popping up on vb.com and the German support forum because of this.

dannyheath 01-02-2010 04:20 PM

This Will Be Right Back Fixing A Bug Thanks

This mod is still (1.2) not anywhere up to standards. You did not resolve the most critical bug: You still are dumping invalid data onscreen by just putting the html for another complete html page into the plugin. This will result in the errors discussed on vb.com and vbg.com before. Get any plain html out of the plugin. If you don't want to use a template (which you should), you need to save any output you want to create into a variable, register that properly for use wherever you want it to use (probably header template) and output call that variable there.

This mod in it's current state is still bound to break vB4 insallations completely by dumping output to screen before cookies are being set. Even if it seems to work, it will output invalid html by plastering another complete html site structure on top of the existing one, created by vB4.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/****/public_html/includes/functions.php(6505) : eval()'d code on line 11

Version 4.0.1

TheSight 01-20-2010 08:44 AM

Hello,

I'm getting this error on the very top of my site (4.0.1)

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/.sites/725/site222/web/includes/functions.php(6505) : eval()'d code on line 1

cellarius 01-20-2010 09:47 AM

This mod is broken, and will break your forums as you experience. See my post #31 in this thread, with an explanation what the fundamental issues are. The author really should remove it until this is fixed.

VonDoom 01-21-2010 05:17 PM

Id love to use this. But agreed it really needs to be placed in the graveyard until these critical bugs are fixed.
