vB4 Blue

1 Attachment(s)
Now updated to vB 4.0.7 as labeled in the new download

Here's a skin I am sort of modeling off of vb.org here, I am using threadmarkers from Shelley_c https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=229462 (mostly because I am just not that fond of the huge images they are using in 4).

Preview Here

To install go to AdminCP > Styles & Templates > Download / Upload Styles > Import style XML file and browse for vb4_blue-style.xml and import it. Upload the images to your forum root images folder, so it should be forum/images/vb4_blue.

Q&A
Q: How do I enable the side blocks?
A: Admin CP > Settings > Options > Forum Sidebar and Block Options. You must also go to Forums & Moderators > Forum Blocks Manager and add your blocks before it will work.

Q: I don't have a CMS, will this still work for the forum only?
A: Yes.

Q: It's working for the forum but not the CMS?
A: Login from the front end, use the pencil icon and change the theme to the new style instead of default style.

Anything 4.0.2 or below please download vB4_Blue.zip

nice one m8, i have a question i have modified some of the files (footer.....) in the default skin can i make it automatically be modified in every style i install?

ericgtr 12-26-2009 01:28 PM

I believe the only way to maintain it across all styles is to make your preferred style the parent and add any new styles under it.

gyaronn 12-26-2009 02:04 PM

thanks for the info m8

Marka Ragnos 12-26-2009 04:55 PM

Wow this looks really good, downloading!

Edit: installed :D

gyaronn 12-26-2009 05:25 PM

for some reason my CMS does not change and the new icons do not appear any ideas way?

ericgtr 12-26-2009 05:36 PM

You may want to clear your CMS cache, not sure why else it wouldn't show, it works on two of my sites with the CMS. The images should go into the /images/vb4_blue/statusicon/ directory.

I'm not sure how much of vB4 works on IE6 to be honest. Sorry about that.

Dude way the hell are you using IE 6 DL FireFox or IE8 or Safari or Chrome but stop using IE6 there are tones of security problems there :-)

Prisoner 01-01-2010 04:54 AM

Strange, it works on everything but the front page of the CMS.

Try to login from the front end, use the pencil icon and change the theme to the new style instead of default style. Also please click the Install button if you use this. :)

captkirk 01-02-2010 04:34 PM

I love this style, my favorite so far, will vote and click install

Sander Prinsen 01-03-2010 09:53 AM

I prefer this one over the stock vB 4.0 skin, excellent job. I'm using it as the default skin on my forum now!

lovefords 01-04-2010 03:23 AM

Excellent. Looks great on my auto enthusiast site. 5 Stars

Seems to be missing

/images/vb4_blue/statusicon/thread_dot-16.png

I can't find the icon in the package.

Other than that, it looks great!

Thanks, good to know, for now if you want to rename one of the existing images to that and overwrite them that will work. The amount of forum marker images they've created for 4.0 is unbelievable.

I like your style very much and intend to use it for my new forum. Unfortunately the buttons with patriot style is not to good for me as I live in Switzerland... The forum is for marketing students. Any idea if I can get something like ordinary folders or any other smooth style that would fit in your design?
Thanks for your help!

Sure, you can do that through style vars after the style is installed.

Go to your Admin CP > Styles & Templates > Style Manager > vB4 Blue
On the stylevar menu click on ImagePaths and look for:
Item Status Icon Folder and click "Revert" just above it.

That should set them back to default icons for you.

jahna 01-07-2010 07:01 AM

O.K. thanks!
The style works now on the forum but not on the homesite, altough it is setup as standard style.....?

jahna 01-07-2010 12:43 PM

All installed and works well now, thanks!!

kartik786 01-07-2010 06:29 PM

looks like IPB :)

You just made everyones day.. IPB's intuitive design and vbulletin code !!

tenjinzan 01-07-2010 07:02 PM

Using as my default now. But I was really interested in the blocks on the right hand side of your screenshots for the forum.

I have Forum Blocks setup, but they never seem to display. What did you do to enable them to show?

Edit: Nvm, found it. Didn't scroll down far enough in the giant "show all options" page. Great design, thanks again!

I have never used IPB before but I'm glad this gives your users a familiar environment. :)

Glad you got it worked out, when I first used vB4 I had to look that one up myself lol.

You must also go to Forums & Moderators > Forum Blocks Manager and add your blocks before it will work.

Ahh yes, that does look pretty close. I have also updated the first post of this thread with all these instructions since this question seems to come up a lot. :)

microlight 01-09-2010 04:32 PM

Can I add this to my board as a second style that is user selectable? I have got lots of users who actually like the new VB Greenish theme, but I don't like it myself too much and would like to select this blue for myself and have it available to other users that wanted it.

Sure, go to the Admin CP > Options > Style & Language Settings > Allow Users To Change Styles Yes

ToNetU 01-09-2010 08:49 PM

Good catch, if you look for in your stylevars for shade_color you will find it, you can change it to this to make it fit:
rgb(0, 0, 51)

ToNetU 01-10-2010 02:17 PM

thank you! looks really nice now :)
