seriously???? WHAT LAYOUT?

Speysider 12-18-2009 03:35 PM

No need to spam my thread thanks.
I'll enable all the styles so you can rate each one.

KevinL 12-18-2009 03:54 PM

ehh pretty much all default styles...try again. Sorry

Speysider 12-18-2009 04:00 PM

I'm still in the process of editing them though
This is a really new forum and haven't had the time to make edits yet.

Speysider 12-20-2009 08:08 AM

Got a couple of new users to my forum, hopefully more will arrive! =)

Speysider 01-08-2010 04:22 PM

Okay, I added some better styles to my forum and I have about 24 members registered, nearly all being active.

Did you delete the forums? All I see is a WordPress blog.

Trip 01-08-2010 10:27 PM

It was on a side linky...

Speysider 01-09-2010 08:30 AM

Yeah, sorry about that (created wordpress, forums are at the address linked to by Trip :))

GonE 01-09-2010 10:10 AM

Is your site completed? or are you still working on theme edits?

Speysider 01-09-2010 11:22 AM

Forums are pretty much completed

GonE 01-09-2010 01:05 PM

Seems to be down

AzH 01-09-2010 01:53 PM

First suggestion then. Get a real domain. There is a stigma attached to .co.cc domains as they're used frequently by scammers.

I know that. I'm fixing it

Sorry, but I see that as an accusation that you think I am a scammer. I will get a .com domain ONCE the site has a lot of activity and members

he just told you that .co.cc is frequently used by spammers, if he were to accuse you, it would be something like "Well you must be a spammer, considering you have a .co.cc domain"

Lol

haothiencz 01-10-2010 09:35 AM

I wonder that you paid for a licence of vbulletin which cost ~200usd but don't pay for a regular domain which cost only from 2-10usd/year?

It costs less here in the UK.
Erm, I am only 16 and I don't have all that money yet. I have had to pay for a license, an upgrade to the license, then pay for hosting. I've going broke and I am not wasting more money on domains yet.

haothiencz 01-10-2010 06:21 PM

Usually If you buy a hosting plan it also comes with free international domain through the time you using the service rite?

Not all of them, some do however are more expensive.

Speysider 01-11-2010 04:29 PM

I may be getting a .com domain soon, but I will have to ask my mum, before I start going around buying domains.

KyleWhitey 01-14-2010 07:44 AM

you should of um... idk bought a domain first? thats 5 quid tops.. the license was roughly like 100 quid? I'm confused, lol.

DieselMinded 01-17-2010 06:25 PM

why do you manually do the vbulletin copyright ? VB upgrades does not show patch levels to the public.

Who is the other 2 chicks in the header?

I've always done that. It lets the members know we are on a secure version of vBulletin.

What do you mean by your final question?

KevinL 01-18-2010 11:24 AM

Do they really know the vbulletin release numbers? So if you wrote powered by 69.5.569 PL 12 would they still think it was secure?

There are 2 other chicks in the header besides hermione...Who are they? lol

Speysider 01-19-2010 05:45 PM

yeah.
They are Luna and Ginny.

Speysider 01-22-2010 08:29 AM

Notice: People who have been wondering why I don't have a domain name: I now have one for the site!

http://hpcommunity.co.uk (website)
http://forum.hpcommunity.co.uk (forums)

You can go to the old domain, but you'll go to the new one anyway

Zylantex 01-22-2010 11:36 AM

Fair play to you, you seem to have put a lot of work into that. I like the House themed tags. Very imaginative. Best of luck with it.

Speysider 01-22-2010 07:20 PM

Thanks lolocaust.
It looks to be a good forum.

What's so bad about the layout?

AzH 01-25-2010 12:50 PM

  • Header too high
  • Notice too large
  • Ad placement offensive
  • Welcome message toooooo long
  • Stats largely irrelevant

I'm running 1680 x 1050 and I'm halfway down the page before I run into any worthwhile content.

1) WTH are you on about? The header is NOT too high
2) The notice is supposed to be large.
3) Just refresh the page. What's so offensive about the placement of an ad?
4) I edited it, so people know the benefits of joining
5) How are the stats irrelevant?

Most of these errors are just personal judgement. I find no errors of what you mentioned.

AzH 01-26-2010 06:25 PM

Best of luck and best wishes. There's little point in trying to argue you round from your way of thinking. I'll allow someone else to agree or disagree with me.

Although I doubt that would change your mind much if at all. ;)

It might, depending on the suggestions.
But thanks anyway (I might start again for the 3rd time trying to find a topic that hasn't been discussed to nothingness)

GonE 01-26-2010 10:57 PM

You have got way too much before you can even get to your boards, you have Header, Notice, Benefits of registration, advertisement, top 5 stats.

Never seen a board like it. I actually moreless have to scroll to the bottom of the page to get the START of the forums.

Speysider 01-27-2010 06:03 PM

Okay, well, if someone wanted to help me on the forums fix the problem, then that would be great.

I removed the ad codes and disabled the top stats.

Nordinho 01-27-2010 06:30 PM

I've got to agree on the header, I would make it a bit smaller. I do like the houses setup at registration. Perhaps you could make the welcome box collapsible, that'll save you a lot of pixels (so your content is visible earlier). I would get rid of the default (status)icons. There are many available here on .org in the template area.

The color scheme is easy on the eyes, however I've always got a 'dark' idea when I think about HP. Lastly, I would suggest to use VBadvanced (it's free and offers a lot of integration), so your main site will blend in with the rest. Hope this helps you.

Well, you wanna do that for me? I'm not using vBadvanced, navigate to hpcommunity.co.uk and you'll see that I already have a front page.

The status icons are modified. They originally said CNN, but the style author made a modification to them.
