the old vb3 style template

hello,

is it possible to use the old vb3 style on vb4?

i really like the looks of the vb3, and the new one kinda is... a bit... bleh.

Seven Skins 12-09-2009 09:52 AM

vb3.0 style is not compatible with vb4.0 so you cannot use them.

Lynne 12-09-2009 01:56 PM

If you went through every template and modified them to use the new vb4 variable and condition syntax, then you could use the vb3 templates...... possibly. I've never tried it, but I do know you have to at least change the syntax.

Ok, I'll a bit modify question, will there be a vB3.8.x look alike skin? With all of vB4 functionality but just looking enough like vB3.8.x?

I get question from my users, they like vB3.8 looks and feel, and dislike vB4.

That is a question that should be asked on vb.com. But, from what I have seen on vb.com, no, you will not be getting another style. They have only ever released one style with their software before.

Thank you.

alawee.blawee 12-14-2009 12:36 AM

there was a discussion like that in vbulletin.com and the result was even if you tried to modify it. it will crash with you because version 4 is classified much more in variables

Same here. Hopefully someone will design a 3.8 skin in the near future.

Man if you are the admin on your forum just tell your users that is the evolution of the system, tell them to forget about it. My board is about 10000 users and growing fast so I just upgrade live and make mods without their advise cuz like i said is the evolution of the site for good reasons... Its like moving from Win XP to Win 7, its better but there is always a sucker saying he likes more XP, WTF? hehe.:D

I am also looking for 3.8 skin to use on vb4.
vb4 looks so bad.

I agree. The standard vb4 style is a pain in my eyes, so terrible white.
So i have buy a vb4 style for $15,-
http://www.skinbox.net/skins/vbulletin-4-styles/25

Its not THE good style, buth better than the vb4 white one.

Charlie98902 12-28-2009 06:49 PM

Too much White? White not use the sylvars and edit it? I agree there is a lot of white but I eliminated mine from so much of that color although I am still using some.

Maybe someone should do a vBulletin 3 template for vB4 ;)

Charlie98902 12-28-2009 07:51 PM

Why go backwards though? If styled right you can do great things with the default style. I have seen some admins styles that make mine look like crap being all fancy and such.

Anyoldname 12-28-2009 10:22 PM

Personally, I think the VB4 default style is a step backwards and has a more dated look than VB3.8x

Pardon me if that sounds rude, its just my opinion. I like the 3.8 style, its not broken and doesn't need fixing.

Yea i completely agree with you. This is one of the reasons i have not upgraded to vBuleltin 4.0 i am trying to figure out how i can get time to remake my theme for 4.0 why my users use 3.8.4 its not easy.

jesusdavid 01-02-2010 09:24 AM

i found that the vb4 skin looks a bit like IPB, the header that is...

PhilG 01-02-2010 09:10 PM

It's definitely possible but will take a heap of time to rewrite all the templates...

serverguy 01-02-2010 11:52 PM

My main problem is that one of our main financial supporters is a WebTV user and refuses to change. The VB3 style worked great, but the VB4 pages just plain don't work and are completely unusable for that user.

I'd tell them to just get over it, but they provide a majority of the financial resources for our board. :(

I hope someone can come up with a way to make it work...
