Banned
I have a big problum and hope someone can help me with it. I have VB 3.8.4 and the site has been open now for 3 weeks. Everything was going great untill this pass weekend when i went to login i got a screen saying that i am banned from my own site. It looks to me that the banned settings is not working experiencing trouble with the ban feature. It seems after you register at ************* and then log out, the next time you come back to ***********site to relog in, you get a message telling you that you have been banned. Now you don't have to log out all just close ur browzer and open a new one you get the, you have been banned.
Can someone please help me with this. Thank you LEGS |
Register a new user, and stay logged in. Upload tool.php (from the do_not_upload folder) into your admincp. Now point your browser to that url and enter your license number. You will then be able to promote your new user to admin status. Then delete the tools.php file and login to the admin panel and fix whatever you did you ban people.
|
I have not banned any members on the site. There is something goin on with the banned. The banned feature has been disabled and still have the same problum.
Thank you LEGS |
Default vbulletin doesn't just go and start banning users. You either have a modification that isn't working right that is doing it, or someone is doing it deliberately, but the software does not just suddenly start banning users.
|
Just what i was thinking. A modification that is not working right. I have a webmaster i told him about it but he is not doing anything about it. Do you think you can help me?
Thank you LEGS |
Lynne has already told you how you can regain admin access. From there simply disable all mods in the AdminCP.

Lynne tried to explain how to fix your problem. Wired1 tried to help you understand a little better. Once you login to your adminCP scroll down and look for Products and Plugins, then click on Manage Products, then disable your products till you find out what one is causing the problem. |

Wired1, sorry i took you reply the wrong way. |
How far did you get in following what I suggested? Did you promote your new user to admin status? Were you able to log in? What is the situation right now?

vBulletin Message You have been banned for the following reason: No reason was specified. Date the ban will be lifted: Never All of my members get the same thing. It's a 3 week old site and have no idea what's going on. Everything was good for 3 weeks. |
Disable your mods via config file.

How did you delete your mods if you weren't able to get into the admin panel?
Have you tried reuploading all your vbulletin files? Or looked to see if there are any strange files that have been added lately? The reason I ask is that I seem to recall some guy hacking sites and doing exactly what is going on here (setting everyone to be banned). |

If i don't log out i can get into the forums. I will install the mod's again one @ a time to see which is the one that's giving me the trouble. I want to thank everyone for all you'r help in this matter. Still if you have any idea as to why i still get the banned screen after login out, Please let me know. Thank you Legs |
OK, I guess I misunderstood some of the problem.
So, when you are in the admin panel and you look up a user, are they in a banned usergroup? Or are they in the Registered usergroup? If they are in the registered usergroup, if you go to the Usergroup Manager > REgistered usergroup > edit, is "This Usergroup is not a 'Banned' Group" set to Yes? (It should be if you do NOT want them to be banned.) |

user, are in the Registered usergroup. I have no banned members at all as i have not banned anyone. |
Turn your forum's ON looks like they're off lol.
|
OK, going back to looking up a user, are they in any additional usergroups or only in the Registered usergroup? If yougo to Users > View Banned Users, does anyone show up there?
Also, when you removed all your mods, did you actually remove them or just disable them? And did you remove any file or template edits you made for the mod? And have you tried turning off the plugin system to see if things change? |

When you uninstalled the mods, did you remove any file edits you had to do for them? Have you tried uploading all default files?

I might have a solution.
Go to the AdminCP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup (Unregistered / not logged in). Check to see that "This usergroup is not a banned group" is set to yes. I have never been to your site and get a ban message. You may have re-configured the ban message or someone has hacked your forums and has started banning everyone. |

New VB installed 4.0 installed and working good.
And yes it is set to yes. My webmaster checked it and said all setting are set right. One of my admin change one thing in the nav and that's what was giving the problem. But all and all i now have 4.0 VB. |
Only problem is, your vB4.0 version is also telling me I'm banned.
Upgrading a forum very rarely takes care of a problem. You need to figure out what happened and fix it. Also, you need an index page in your root folder. |
That's because you are trying to ogin on the old url, the 4.0 has a new url.
