supermods to delete & add users
How to?
Been checking this around and just found 1 old thread. Mine is 3.8.4 vB board, usergroup supermod should be able to delete and add new users but without any other access to admin cp. Cannot find it through usergroups permissions and don't want them to be admin. New usergroup with limited admin CP access? or how to? Help please. :o |
No one?

AdminCP> Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > Super Mods
Scroll down to: Administrator Permissions Set to YES: then it will have a notice in red font saying to edit admin permissions |
Thanks a lot ChopSuey
Was a little tricky to figure it before, but thanks to your simple explanations was able to grant them limited access to ACP without promoting them to Admins.:) |
Make sure you allow AdminCP access to trustworthy users or you may find deleted accounts, and all sorts happen.
|
Make sure your account dont get edited.
|
Yes, thanks guys for the warns.
These are supermods that were admins and were downgraded due to forum new organization, is trustworthy people, they've played nicely with the ACP when they were admins. The main reason why they need access is that they were taking care of eventual spammers signing up, deleting them accounts. They are not enough skilled to have access to the whole admincp and either fit the admin profile. My account among with owners accounts are not editable or changeable as I modified the config.php and they don't have access to the file  --------------- Added [DATE]1260122473[/DATE] at [TIME]1260122473[/TIME] --------------- And forget to say that gave them permissions only to 'Can Administer Users' |
Yes, just that only.
If you post in the Paid Services forum, you might be able to get an admin to help you. =) |
Thanks Speysider, didn't figured that...
One thing, as now supermods can access to modifiy users, they can easily change usergroups. For example, they can now change their status from SuperMods to Admin, I just tried that and this still give them acces to the same settings not to the whole control panel. Is there a way to restrict them to modify usergroups from a given user? --------------- Added [DATE]1260124724[/DATE] at [TIME]1260124724[/TIME] --------------- I've put the supermods on the list of UNDELETABLE / UNALTERABLE USERS so they wont be able to modify their profiles through the ACP, but still this is not the best as if I want to do some fast change I have to go trough the config.php... |
They can only modify usergroups if the "Can Administer Usergroups" option is set to yes.
You could just have them set as protected users, that's the best option =) |

I've looked into usergroupd supermods, there's not this option. I've looked into administrator permissions: (username), there's not this option. Sorry. Where to look for this option? |
Go to AdminCP -> Usergroups -> Administrator Permissions.
There, you'll find every user who is able to go into the AdminCP. Click on the 'Edit Permissions' link of the user you wish to change permissions. |
I guess I wasn't clear enough...
Yes, I know how to edit admin permissions, the second statement : Quote:
This is copy and pasted directly from there: Quote:
This gives the supermods access to modify Usergroups; even their own to whatever they want, I have setup a supermod account which I'm testing this. The only way I could stop them to modify this is through marking them accounts via configh.php so they cannot modify it, but either I the main admin cannot modify it without going to the config.php first With my tester supermod user I have change my user group to only admin and what happened is that the user is promoted to admin on the 'Forum leaders' page but still remains with the same access to ACP, no extra permissions or ACP access is granted. Additionally we have a hidden forum that only 3 people can access (admins) this is to avoid tons of PMs and we can keep on same page, what happened when the supermod 'was able' to change his user group, then it automatically grants access to this hidden forum for supermods who should not be able to see to see this forum. Anyway, I would like to have that option you mention 'Can administer Usergroups' it is simply that is not there?:( |
It is set by Users & Users permissions.
|
yes? If you don't mind, where please?
|
Uh, if you dont mind scrolling up to your original post and reading this part :)

Guess I am not being probably clear here, sorry for being so annoy.
My original question is covered, 'how to make supermods to add/delete users' I was able to do that by the settings on the above permissions you quoted to YES for only 2 particular users that are supermods. Just the 'Can Administer Users' settings to yes for 2 supermods only. That's all that gives them access to ACP users only. These are the settings for them users: YES for the 'Can Administer Users' NO option for 'Can Administer User Permissions' NO for everything else. ------------------------------ All that said, there's still a flaw (for my board) regarding USERGROUPS. They cannot see the Usergroups Tab on the Left side of their limited ACP access, BUT if they do a search for specific user or click on the Edit Profile link of a given user, then when they see the full user edited profile settings, they are able to see AND MODIFY particular user's usergroups. Add, change usergroup, etc. I just have founded minutes ago that this is a mayor flaw even having them users set to 'undeletable/unalterable users' on the config.php They can easy create another user and grant admin permissions to a new created user, this way they will be able to see the hidden admins/owners forum they should not seen. I would like them NOT to have access to modify USERGROUPS over the USER EDIT (user.php?do=edit&u=example123) module. I guess I will have to dig on the config.php or wherever that is (if somebody can point) so they are not able to SAVE changes of usergroups over the edit user profile module. Got me know?:o |
Oooh, just let them have default Super Moderator settings then lol. Theyre like the same but no admincp access.
|
LOL! it is just like they are now... but I will need to figure how to let them use the user admincp but with NO access to Usergroups Options... perhaps I will have to write my first MOD...
Thanks for your help :D |
Update us if you make a mod, or send me a PM. :)
|
Sure I will.
Will post the notice on this thread either if I find the way to do it, or modify the admincp USER EDIT module. I guess I will have to write a simple 'IF usergroup id=5 (supermods) do not show usergroups options'... will figure it later. I need to install a test forum for all this first :D |
