Forum Style - Mobile Style for vBulletin 4.0

1 Attachment(s)
** 25/08/2010 This style has been superceded by this one: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=249277

However, you can run them both if you know you have older mobile phones accessing your site as they may be able to render this one better **

This is a port of my mobile style from 3.7/3.8 to 4.0.0.

It is a very cut back style with very low bandwidth usage which renders well on pretty much all small screen devices from old Nokias to new iPhones.

Currently it only supports forums/thread/posts/PMs. Recent vBulletin features such as Social Groups, Albums, Blogs are not supported (although they should still disaplyin a not-so-mobile-friendly way...)

Further customise this style with Mobile Style Options!
  • Supports viewing/posting/replying in forums
  • Supports Private Messaging
  • Supports Tags (viewing, not adding)
  • Supports Thread Prefixes
  • has an add-on product to customise here: Extend and Customise Mobile Style (It is recommended that you install this also, but not required)
  • Supports other stuff too ....

Version Control
1.0.0 - Initial Relase from 3.7
1.0.1 - Fixed issue with "Friendly URL's" not being compatible
1.0.2 - Updated version numbers to 4.0.99 (should cover all 4.0 releases with the "Out of date templates" messages. Removed Replacement Variables.
1.0.3 - Fixed known template bugs

Install Instructions
  1. Save wireless.css.txt to wireless.css and uppload to your forum root
  2. Save XML style file and install via AdminCP

Notes
  • To change style attributes, you need to edit the CSS file
  • Please leave copyright and the link as they are - it links to a very niche forum which is very ulikely to detract from or take members form your own.

As you were.

dartho 11-27-2009 09:19 AM

Thanks!

buro9 11-27-2009 09:51 AM

Awesome work, much appreciated.

Have you kept the looks the same? I've not installed the vb4 beta yet but I'd love to see a few screenshots of how this is looking. It's much anticipated.

dartho 11-27-2009 10:13 AM

Looks the same - I've changed as liitle as possible. It is the same CSS file, so if You've made customisations, they will still work also.

TandyServices 11-27-2009 01:01 PM

This will be great for mobile users, however, I'm having some troubles with the links in the forum. When I try opening a post it will just refresh the threadlist, and when I click on the Forum link on top I get the message: Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator.
Can I fix this? Thanks :)

Thanks,

halkum 11-27-2009 03:48 PM

Dartho made this quickly after I had asked about a vB4 version, and I had the pleasure of being the guy to test it for him.

Confirmed working on a Samsung Messenger SCH-r450 as well as the 3.8/3.7 version.

halkum 11-27-2009 03:50 PM

I can also confirm the Different Domain, Different Style hack for the vb 3 series still works for vb4. So grab it and this and hook up mobile.yourdomain.com and you're good to go!

Can I have a link to your mobile site/style so I can look?

Hornstar 11-27-2009 10:41 PM

Thanks, however do you ever plan to make this work nicely with profiles and blogs etc.

TandyServices 11-28-2009 12:12 AM

PM sent

dartho 11-28-2009 01:17 AM

Thanks - I see the problem now. It is to do with the friendly URL's. I should be able to fix, but it won't be today.

So for anyone else, please not that this style is currently NOT ocmpatible with any but standard URL's.

roddy 11-28-2009 05:36 AM

Very glad to see this is being ported for 4.0, Dartho you will most definitely be getting a pint of cider (maybe even two) on me.

If there are any screenshots, I'd love to see them. If not, or if they're basically the same as 3.X, no matter.

kc67 11-28-2009 07:00 AM

No screenshots???

Fail

It's hard to get motivated to do this as it has little appeal on my own site... that's not a "no", but ....

Same as 3.x version - all though there are a couple small mod/management extras

ooo.....

dartho 11-28-2009 09:57 AM

New version up which should fix the issue with not being compatible with "SEO Friendly URLs"

Also updated the "Mobile Style Options" addon for this and released HERE

Biker_GA 11-28-2009 10:20 AM

Much appreciated. Installed, updated, and will be sending the funds for a couple of pints in a day or so. Gawd, I do miss a good pint of Bitter.

Kolbi 11-28-2009 11:42 AM

Screenshot or a Demo would be nice :)

halkum 11-28-2009 02:56 PM

I'll get you a screen and demo. Give me a moment

How can we get this style to automatically assign based on the device? Does this plugin still workfor that?
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=173239

halkum 11-29-2009 02:25 AM

I can confirm that plug in does still work for vb4

Webinsane.com 12-03-2009 06:37 PM

On import I am receiving message: Invalid File Specified

dartho 12-03-2009 08:21 PM

Are you uinstalling as a style or product? Also, your download may have got corrupted - clear cache and re-download and try again

aspen1018 12-08-2009 06:15 PM

I have this style installed and when users visit my mobi domain it shows up as the correct style but after they log in and then click forums on the top it goes back to the default style

any suggestions?

Thanks

betty02 12-10-2009 01:45 PM

Does this automatically switch users to mobile version when on a mobile?

Just i set this up installed it all etc and visited from mobile and it didn't lol?

aspen1018 12-10-2009 04:02 PM

it didn't for me either I had to install a mod that forces all mobile users to this mod and it has a few issues that don't work the same as it did for vb3

I'm getting this constant error. I cleared my cache, redownloaded and retired. I'm still getting it. After installing it via Admin CP. IE. AdminCP > Plugin & Products System. I select the file, click import. I get that error.

This is a style, not a product. Install via style manager ... ;)

Oh boy.. Do I feel dumb. Wow, thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction! :)

urbanpulse 12-17-2009 06:57 AM

Havnt had a chance to see this style in action yet..
Im using 4.0 beta 5 :(
Any idea when it will be compatible with this version?
Thanks

dartho 12-17-2009 07:59 AM

shouldn't be a problem with beta 5 I would imagine

urbanpulse 12-17-2009 08:22 AM

I've tried it and it's not accepted when trying to uplaod the XML in admincp it states the the style wasn't created for/with beta 5 :'(

dartho 12-17-2009 08:40 AM

click the checkbox that says to ignore the version!

urbanpulse 12-17-2009 05:01 PM

thanks... everythings installed but when i enter the site on a mobile phone, nothing appears to be different.. have a missed a step somewhere?

urbanpulse 12-17-2009 05:03 PM

right i see, i just changed the style.. i thought it would have been implemented automatically, its not what i was expecting to be honest. i thought it would preview like the i4iphones website when on a mobile device

dartho 12-17-2009 10:37 PM

This isn't an "iPhone" style - it's more generic and will display on devices of all sizes and capabilities, most importantly - mine :-)

There are a few styles for 3.8 for iphones, I'm sure it won't take someone long to update theirs for 4.0.

Also keep an eye out for a future 4.x release of vBulletin with a built in 'lite' style - they've already started work on it, have a look at the postbit_lite template ...

buontaiviem 12-21-2009 12:38 PM

Can u make CMS mobie skin or disable CMS when detect mobie?
