If i where to mega hack(like all hacks for vb 2.0.1) how would i go about distributing it so people dont have to hack it, just download it, but so i dont break the copy right agreement?

My understanding is that you couldn't. This would be a definite violation of the licensing agreement.

I don't think you'll see Jelsoft making hacked versions of vB available for downloading. Suffice it to say there would be a lot of potential legal issues regarding intellectual property concerning the 'hacks'. There's a number of other issues too, but that alone is enough to kill the idea dead in its tracks.

Hehe, then i would write a small disclamer giving all copywrites to jelsoft. Also, the "hacks" are not my copywrite in the first place, i would simply be useing hacks found on this board, which are property of the scriptor that are written for use with a vbulletin lisence.

Nothing pisses him off more than someone claiming they have a new "Star Hack" "online" etc. and rightfully so. That is what steve is getting at as well. Start taking glory for others work, whether you add a disclaimer or not, and your asking for trouble.

That, and whos to say you wouldnt add a few things of your own to the whole project to make sure you got back in (if you know what I mean) and that is why Jelsoft is not going to look at this to kindly either. That, and the fact they have a problem already with people using thier (jelsofts that is) forums, and giving them away online.

There is fine line between piracy and good intentions. Be sure not to walk it.

Believe me, I'm not the one making this difficult. There's this little problem called governments, laws, property rights, etc.. That's what makes it difficult. ;)

Besides if you don't want other users feedback, then don't post on these forums. Just write Jelsoft directly with your request.

Distributing vBulletin to anyone is against the license agreement. Most likely we would not post hacked versions in the members' area either, as that would imply our support of those versions which is not going to happen.

We need a way to program a script to hack files for us. Like how we write to a DB using a script, but to another script!

That would have been my first choice, but i dont know C++, or any other language to do that. I guess it could be done in PHP but that would be very dificult :(

According to how I am understanding it - anyone that post their styles up and uses ANYONE elses template mods/hacks is in violation of the original authors mods?

He stated that he wants to basically combine all hacks into ONE hack for ease of instalment. What would be wrong with that?

Unless he meant he would bundle the actual original script with it then I dont see a problem.

If the original author of the hack doesn't want his script edited and/or redistributed then everyone should respect his/her wishes. Otherwise I see no problem in that as long as full vB source files are not distributed.

Why would you even want to do this? If you're so interested in help these others obtain hacked boards, why don't you just install the hacks for them?

You might even be able to make a few $$$ for your time and efforts...something that shouldn't happen with the scenerio you are suggesting.
