BlackBerry Development is typically difficult because of the amount of different operating systems / carriers / phones.

There are 2 aspects to this plugin

1) The vBulletin code
2) The BlackBerry App

If you have issues, you can provide this thread with the following:
  1. Your Forum URL
  2. Make and Model of your BlackBerry
  3. Operating System Version (4.5+)
  4. Your Provider
  5. The problem you are having

This app has been tested on ALL simulators for BlackBerrys with OS 4.5+ Installed. (Pearl, Curve, Bold, Bold 2, Gemini, Storm, Storm 2etc.. )

vBulletin Install

- Download the attached vBulletin Code
- Unzip to your forum root directory.
- There will be one file in your root named mobiforum.php and a new directory called m_functions
- Find the config file in /m_functions/config.php and edit it to your needs
- Change the icon "forum_large_icon.png" to your forum icon.

BlackBerry Install

OS 4.5+ and OS 4.7 Storm / Storm 2

Use your BlackBerry browser to surf to:

http://www.BerryBlab.com/

If you can't see our mobile download page, surf to

http://www.BerryBlab.com/MobileDevice.aspx

Once installed:

- Open the software
- Press the "BlackBerry Key" and select "Add Forum"
- Type in the full http://address.com/ to your forum, (where you extracted your zip file), including backslash.

That should be it. Your forum should be listed and you can now surf using your blackberry, natively. Use the "options" menu when you are viewing your forum to sign in.

This software comes with an Update Check for your BlackBerry, so you should only need to install it once on your phone and it will check for Updates everytime you connect with it.

You will (as a forum administrator) have to keep up with the updates on the vBulletin side however.

Demo Forums using BerryBlab

Note: Your typical data usage charges apply when using this.

I will do my best to supply as much support as possible for all your phone types / forums.

Please make sure you post a LINK to your forum so that I can test it on my own BlackBerry as well as add it to the list above.

As requested! High res photo's.

BlackBerry APN Settings:

For anyone that doesn't have their proper APN settings, you will likely receive a "Tunnel Failed" error (this will happen with most any BB apps that are using the internet, facebook, ubertwitter.. etc).

Example:
Bold 9000 on ROGERS

Setup -> Options -> Advanced Options -> TCP/IP

Check APN Settings Enabled
APN: Internet.com

Leave everything else blank.

For your APN settings, check this page:

To set your APN settings, check these pages:

saadessa 11-12-2009 05:01 AM

how can test this demo ????????

footose 11-12-2009 05:04 AM

Use this link on your BlackBerry's Browser to Install to your phone:

http://www.berryblab.com/beta/BerryBlab.jad

Make sure you have the attached file installed on your vBulletin here:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachmen...4&d=1258006671

OR use one of the test sites listed above.

If you are testing on the site you listed above, I have no tried any other language options yet, although they should work if you have the language packs installed on your BlackBerry / vBulletin.

Please let me know if it works in your Language. If not, I will add it to the list of "things to do" :)

saadessa 11-12-2009 05:09 AM

thank you understand very nice hack

JayTee0902 11-12-2009 05:17 AM

Impressive app, I just downloaded it for BerryReporter and I am testing the forums right now.

sensimilla 11-12-2009 09:33 AM

Thank you, im in need of this.

fenderf4i 11-12-2009 09:37 AM

I've installed it on http://www.canadiancorvetteforums.com
Curve 8330
OS 4.5.0.169
Sasktel

Thanks!

MagicThemeParks 11-12-2009 10:16 AM

Guys and gals, please give us feedback on how the app/add-on is working as this is something I'd definitely want to add to our site!

*tagged*

footose 11-12-2009 11:37 AM

^^ Yes, any feedback is much appreciated! Good and Bad.

http://www.canadiancorvetteforums.com/forums/ is the correct domain to try it out!

Looks to be working! Nice, thanks for installing!

TNCclubman 11-12-2009 11:46 AM

reserved.

Will this show all notifications as well when you log in (not just pms) example, when someone posts on your wall?

footose 11-12-2009 12:41 PM

^^ I haven't made it show wall notifications yet (since I don't use that feature on my forum it wasn't a priority) but I will gladly add that functionality if you want it.

The app is still "Young" - so putting your requests in now for features you want is VERY likely to be completed, or at least started :)

dieselpowered 11-12-2009 02:20 PM

Very nice!!! Too bad I use a Storm. :(

Guess I will keep my eyes open for a compatible Storm version.

footose 11-12-2009 02:42 PM

^^ It should really easy for me to port (I've ported my apps to storm in the past) .. I just haven't had time since I've been working on this first. This will technically work on the storm, I just don't know how user friendly it will be since it will be in compatibility mode. If everything goes smooth with this Beta, I will do a Storm Version next week for you.

If you want to upload the plugin to your site, I can test with my Bold (or have your other users test it) that way we will be way ahead of the game when the storm version is released.

footose 11-12-2009 02:44 PM

My other issue is that I don't have an actual Storm to test on, since my network is 3G.

dieselpowered 11-12-2009 03:32 PM

Well give it a try if you want :)

http://www.sxshq.com/forums/

footose 11-12-2009 03:37 PM

Looks to be working :)

footose 11-12-2009 03:48 PM

Seems to load a tad slow because you have so many forums.

I'm going to not send the forum descriptions in the stream if the user hasn't selected to see the forum descriptions, that should speed it up significantly.

tehbored 11-12-2009 04:19 PM

I keep getting an error message on my Curve when I try to add any URL
"java.lan.IllegalArgumentException: no ':' in URL

footose 11-12-2009 04:25 PM

I've had this error a few times myself.

If you are adding your own forum, you may have a malformed CONFIG file.

You will have to erase BerryBlab from your BB and reinstall it. Don't forget to clear your cache from your browser when reinstalling.

This is a known bug, and will be fixed in the next release.

nikki712 11-12-2009 05:18 PM

What does this error mean:

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: End tag does not match start tab 'b'.

I'm getting this when I try to add a forum, and I'm using all of the slashes as per the instructions.

I'm on Verizon with a BB Tour (9630).

Okay, I was able to add the forum, but I get the error above when I click on it to open up my forum. I did upload the m_functions folder to my forum root, along with mobiforum.php.

footose 11-12-2009 05:27 PM

Please provide me a link to your forum, that way I can debug.

Typically that error means there is no posts / threads in the forum, or something is not generating properly.

I left these "hard" errors in here for the BETA so that I can determine the problems quickly, but I will put "friendly" errors in after the beta is over (hopefully we dont have many errors after the beta :) )

Hex_legend 11-12-2009 05:32 PM

Not working for me.

Blackberry curve 8900
Orange Network
URL: http://vampyrescene.com

I get the message "java.lang.NullPointerException" on the blackberry. It shows as soon as I connect to the site - I dont get any forums or anything listed.

I sent you a PM. Thanks!

footose 11-12-2009 05:45 PM

Hex_Legend: Seems there is a problem with the way the directory structure is setup. I may have to add this to the code. Will check it out for you tonight and get back to you.

Nikki: Checking yours now.

footose 11-12-2009 05:47 PM

nikki712: seems you have the same issue as Hex_legend.

I'll see if i can get a fix going for this for tonight.

abdobasha2004 11-12-2009 06:09 PM

wow
absolutely great idea

footose 11-12-2009 06:19 PM

hex, nikki: looks like the reason is actually because you guys have HTML in your forum descriptions which is messing up the XML. I will most def have a fix for you guys tonight then.

LCN2007 11-12-2009 06:43 PM

Will test on my Storm when the storm version is released.

footose 11-12-2009 06:52 PM

I'm thinking I will need to do a Storm Version Sooner than Later....

You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!

Itchy Nips 11-12-2009 07:09 PM

1) http://www.iamletired.com/
2) Bold 9000
3) OS 5.0.0.314
4) AT&T

I'm receiving a "Java.lang.IllegalArgumentException" error when attempt to add my forum. I'm running OS 5, so I'm sure that has everything to do with it.

I'll run this test on someone else's Bold, running OS 4.6.x.x

footose 11-12-2009 07:24 PM

^^ I'll try it on my bold, it has 4.6 still. ......

I also get the Illegal Exception. Do you have your Config file properly setup? No extra linebreaks.

You will need to reinstall the app after that error unfortunately. I will attempt to figure out why it's doing that.

SVTCobraLTD 11-12-2009 07:24 PM

When I click on the app, it does not do anything. The blackberry arrow in the corner goes for a second but thats it. This is on a Bold 9000/ATT

footose 11-12-2009 07:29 PM

SVTCobraLTD: Do you have your APN settings setup properly? First post in the thread might help you. You must have a dataplan, or be on WiFi

Eric Anderson 11-12-2009 08:57 PM

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: End tag does not match start tab 'img'
I get this error after clicking on my forum trying to enter forum

footose 11-12-2009 09:52 PM

^^ Please send me your forum URL.

I'm pretty sure you are experiencing the same problem the others are. You have HTML in your forum descriptions. I will have the update out to solve that in the next few hours.

kyle1745 11-12-2009 09:57 PM

First thanks for making this an app like this is long over due.

I am running it on a verizon blackberry tour.

Findings:
- Scrolling is sluggish
- private forums do not show up after login

Feature requests:
- replace more with pages next/previous
- add settings option for ascending descending
- add settings option for colors or pick up forum colors
- add settings option to view stickies, polls, and announcements
- add quick keys for page top and bottom like in email
- add admin/mod features

Again thanks a lot and ill keeping using it and provide more feedback.
Kyle
