Sound Notification
 

This will play You've Got Mail when a new notification is received. You can also replace the mail.mp3 file with your own sound to play upon a new notification.

I ask that you not remove the branding as it helps support me. Without support I will not continue making modifications.

No Branding Version:
For a premium no-branding version which has additional features, please visit my Products & Services page.

Installation:
1.) In the AdminCP go to User Profile Fields -> Add New User Profile Field.

2.) Select Single-Selection Menu.

3.) Apply the following settings:
Title:
Sound Notification
Description:
Enable the You've Got Mail sound to play when you get a new notification?
Options:
Yes
No
Set Default:
Yes, but No First Blank Option
Private Field:
Yes
Field Searchable on Members List:
No
Show on Members List:
No

4.) After saving take note of what the ID is of the field.

5.) Open product-soundnotification.xml and find:
fieldXX

Change the XX to your fieldID I told your to take note of.

6.) In the template navbar find:
<if condition="$show['notifications']">

Below add:
$soundnotification

Done.


Upgrading:
Import the product and select Allow Overwrite.

Your Copyright is bigger than vBulletin's !

Its not really a copyright lol. Just a linkback to my profile. The font is a little big, I'll fix that in the next version. I've tested this multiple times, but I will test it again just to verify everything. Just to eliminate some of the common mistakes:
Did you upload the mail.mp3 to your forum root?
Did you correctly add your field id to the product before uploading it?
Are your running VBOptimize? If so flush your cache and see if you still have a problem.

I even went as far and chmod 777 the mp3, still no good.

That's a great suggestion. Since I believe you said something in the PM about donating, I'll add this feature to the premium version, but I have a few things to do so give me about an hour or two.

Where does the mp3 file need to be uploaded to? The instructions do not include this info.

Judging by the PM you sent me it sounds like you never uploaded the new product. Make sure you upload the new product and select Allow Overwrite.

I uploaded the mp3 file to my forum root. I too have it playing on every page I select in my forums. I do have VBOptimize installed. I will flush it's cache to see if helps.

Edit: Flushing VBOptimize did not help.

:D I'm an idiot. With 4 years of VBulletin experience I still don't have enough common since to check the file before it's uploaded. I uploaded the correct file and PMed all those that have donated the new link.

Update... I removed the $soundnotification from the navbit template. That fixed it :)

I di uninstall the old version buddy. But for some reason that remained behind. or did you mean i had to remove all the coding that was added in addition to the php first time around ?

Yea plugins don't edit templates. To uninstall you have to do what you did before only in reverse order and the opposite of what it says.

Just an idea

Well it would be great that user can choose one of lets say 3 to 5 offered sounds in their usercp somewhere, sounds that Ive uploaded

Or sounds that they can upload as someone mentioned earlyer

Anyway which is more server friendly would be great
As some users might hate some sounds would be nice to give an option that user can shut down this option

I've got it working in IE, but firefox it just won't work no matter what I try and I have no idea as to why. I will keep trying though. Can't make any promises just yet.

well i 'm gonna cross my finger and i know one of this days you will find a better way to figure out how you gonna make it work brader...

btw...maybe it's better you add those donators on the first page so others can give something too for your hardwork as appreciation and also for the premium and a better one...
