OBAMA - Nobel Peace Prize??? WTF!?!?!

In my whole life I never witnessed such cynicism...
A President at War = Nobel Peace Prize???

Dean C 10-09-2009 06:20 PM

I feel bad for him. He has been very dignified in his response to this. He understands that he doesn't deserve this price and has come out with a good response.

iogames 10-09-2009 08:14 PM

he sits with generals everyday, and he's commander in chief of the major stockpile of nuclear weapons!

Brandon Sheley 10-09-2009 08:32 PM

I'm an obama fan and even i think this is weird
he was only in office 10-12 days when the NPP was voted on..

btw.. when have we not been at war ;)

The war doesn't have anything with winning or not winning a nobel peace prize. Its usually a major contribution to society that changes the lives of many people for the better that get these things.

How he beat out the other entrants this year, will probably be a major conspiracy theory for a long long time, considering he really hasn't done much of anything for humanity.

Wayne Luke 10-10-2009 01:35 AM

Well...

A person cannot nominate themselves for the prize. It has to come from someone else. For the Peace Prize this includes these groups -
1. Members of national assemblies and governments of states;
2. Members of international courts;
3. University rectors; professors of social sciences, history, philosophy, law and theology; directors of peace research institutes and foreign policy institutes;
4. Persons who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
5. Board members of organizations who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
6. Active and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (proposals by members of the Committee to be submitted no later than at the first meeting of the Committee after February 1);
7. Former advisers appointed by the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

The nomination process is here:
http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/process.html

The press release is here:
http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/p...009/press.html

We'll see if he lives up to the honor or not. Only history will be able to tell on that.

Well he sits and signs orders for air strikes on Pakistan's border and Afghanistan... so if for some stupid reason a civilian dies... where is peace attained?

TIME, CNN, NYT have a poll (and he's losing in all of them) :)

He is the leader of a country involved in the following wars:

Afghanistan
Operation Enduring Freedom - Philippines
Operation Enduring Freedom - Horn of Africa
Iraq War
North-West Pakistan
Operation Enduring Freedom - Trans Sahara

This just highlights the absurdity that is the Obama cult.

TNCclubman 10-10-2009 12:46 PM

George Bush should have won it.

not.

imported_silkroad 10-10-2009 04:07 PM

This thread (original thread and post) is an (obvious) example of what is wrong with the world.

.... a lot of people who are never going to have the credentials, experience, education and training to run for high public office just being negative, ugly and disgraceful toward someone who does have the credentials, experience, education, background (and the votes!) to be elected leader of the world's largest economy.

This type of behavior is no different than a big, fat, guy with a big beer belly, sitting in front of his TV, with bags of used potato chips and empty beer cans on the floor, burping and screaming negative comments to a pro footballer footballer in fine shape, playing the game to the best of his ability.

Instead of hurling all the negative insults at someone with an obvious high(er) social and political status (and who was honored by the Nobel committee), go work on your forums and do something constructive..... :up:

Hate does nothing to improve the world.

unp 10-10-2009 04:57 PM

He was nominated when he was president for 11 days and voted when he was president for 4 months.

I have nothing against Obama but wtf :eek:

imported_silkroad 10-10-2009 05:02 PM

Instead of replying without knowledge (and hurling negative comments at others), do your homework.......

Inside the Nobel decision

CNN's Jonathan Mann tells Michael Holmes how the Nobel Committee chooses each year's winner.

http://edition.cnn.com/video/#/video...mann.nobel.cnn

Paul M 10-10-2009 05:24 PM

Seems like complete nonsense. Im sure there are plenty of people more deserving.

lololololololol...the only reply worthy of your drivel.

Sid_pachi 10-10-2009 06:02 PM

with everything and everyone selling out.. it doesnt surprise me that the Nobel people are doing it as well.

i'm sure there were much more deserving people. but alas whats done is done.

if you will all excuse me now i have some beer and chips to deal with while i scream at my television.... burp...

Because you obviously know everyone here well enough to evaluate if they are of higher social status than Obama.

Didn't argue this fact. However he didn't instigate any of these conflicts. There are also time when instability is so great that you actually need troops to restore order. Afghanistan has been botched so badly the last 8 years in order to focus on the unnecessary Iraqi conflict that to just leave would cause greater harm. That is on the previous president. When the Afghani government proves it is capable of ruling the country under its established laws and troops are not removed than you can complain. I know you'll bring up Iraq on troop withdrawal but guess what, it is already happening. Slowly but it is happening.

Frankly, I don't know if he deserved it or not. I don't know the true thinking behind the Nobel committee. I suspect we'll find out at the awards ceremony in December. However it is up to Obama to take the award and prove to people that he did deserve it. He has 3 years do so. In 2012, the American public will vote on whether or not he upheld the honor.

TNCclubman 10-12-2009 05:55 PM

The crusades. Even religion does it so why act like its hypocrisy to get a peace prize while engaged in a war.

Nothing wrong with fighting for peace.

I am sure there are no people here of higher social status than a US President duly elected by the American people.

Writing code and running bulletin boards is not very high on the global social order.

It is easy to sit on the sidelines and toss rocks at others, hurl insults at a standing US President who inherited the current problems (and certainly did not create them) and hurling insults and the Nobel committee.

You can be proud of yourself that you are so good at hurling insulting at people. Congrats! You have proven what a high social position you have in this world, ROTFL :D

Three words: No one cares.

I mean come on, they're newspapers, nothing the media say or do is gonna change the fact that he's won it. I'm not saying I like that he has, but the media is just going to stir up more HATE against the president.

I feel sorry for him, and I'm glad I'm not a slave to the US media, as you obviously are. :)

I disagree. As long as people can act like adults, I don't see a problem with discussing interesting issues such as this.

Fergal C 10-13-2009 11:13 AM

Personally I admire Obama, but I don't believe that he deserves this award.

Surely the NPP should be awarded for achievements to date, not for what someone may or may not do in the next three years?

I personally agree. However I am not on the committee that decides these things nor am I in any position to change the minds of the private foundation behind this award.

Erm, wut?

Please tell me what experience and background he has that qualifies him more than any other potential candidate to be the leader of the world's largest economy.

I truly am stumped by your statement.

By the way, this event has rendered the Noble Peace Prize worthless in my book. I wouldn't be surprised if past winners are disgraced by this whole situation.

Hey, I'm seriously going to cure cancer someday...wheres my Nobel???? :p

Fynnon 10-13-2009 11:04 PM

After winning a NOBEL prize for PEACE guess what he did: HE SENT 13.000 soldiers more to Afghanistan !!! :D

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091013...militarytroops

How can you win a NOBEL prize for PEACE then, after few hours, send more troops to war ?
This shows that prize means nothing to him...

We went from 8 years of sticking our fists in the faces of the rest of the world and bombing countries for absolutely no reason to a man who is promoting peace, if only through speech and promoting unity most of the world has accepted it and unified behind the idea.

You may hate the label or prize but IMO that's priceless.

man I'm on Brazil's jungle as missionary :) (everything got an explanation)
I'm talking about innocent kids dying in the middle of that war...
So Nobel Peace Prize+Obama cultist+Obese-alcoholic tv watchers+Politically-right activists, etc
GOT NOTHING to do with someone underage dying from striking drones ;)
Can't see reality?

p.s. who's talking about politics?

He won the election. That is how you become the leader of the free world. If you don't like it then that's your problem. We had to deal with eight years of a crazy war monger either invading or threatening other countries while cutting taxes on the wealthiest one percent of Americans, screwing the middle class and sending this country spiraling down the rabbit hole. It's change alright, maybe not change some agree with but it's change none the less.

I haven't read all 3 pages, but if you look back through your history textbook this is how the Nobel awards have been handed out through history......this should be a huge source of pride for any American and really represents to the world that we are again the country to look to for leadership. :D

Right, because after 9/11 happened, we should have sat down and discussed with the Taliban and Al Qaeda peace talks.

Good Point.
