annoyed
I've had enough of the many spambot postings regarding companies being run by criminals. The links are all from the same domain, so can't you at least add http://www.5sw.com/ to the word censor? Then we wouldn't have to keep on reporting these pointless posts! :)
|
Even if that were added to the word censor, the threads would still be posted.
(I seem to recall they used to use a different domain and it was added to the word censor and then they changed to another domain. So, I'm not sure adding it to the word censor would really help.) |
They change the domain on a regular basis, and as Lynne says, that wont stop them posting anyway.
|
Well, is there anything that they put in their profiles that you could censor? IP's?
|
Try creating members have to view a thread before they can post/view forums. I use that and it prevents spam bots on my site.
Plus if it helps try using vBadvanced that stopped bots the first time but after a few days they started posting and I setup the site for them to read the rules by setting the hack "requires users to view thread before posting" It says something like, "The administrator requires you to view a thread before you can post" Something like that but it stopped my site from being spammed. Also add in registration captcha it helps ALOT. You can do more than captcha for more secure forum from fake bots. |
Have you installed the plugin so users can only post links after making 15 posts?
|
I must be lucky, I haven't noticed them here :)
|
A professional coder that's a customer of vB might sign up and share his first plugin, and wishes to link back to pictures, or support forum, or a paid version .. and wouldn't be able to.
Limiting users from posting links prevents progress of the core functionality of this site. So I hope that your suggestion won't happen. |
how about just adding a custom question on signup. *poof* problem solved.
|
Just saw a post about preventing links. How about preventing links for 5 posts only? That will give new coders time to take a look around, have a chat, BEFORE they start posting up modifications, then it can filter out the good and bad coders XD
|
My personal site is similar to this one in which we have an area where users 'offer' something to the public. We get users who sign up to the site and immediately go to post up something to offer. When we used to moderate users, that would cause a big problem in that forum. So, I'm with Floris on this in that I hope there are no restrictions put on new users.
(I have no idea if they have something like Is Bot installed here, but if not, that really helps on my site.) |

Yay

How about a custom question on signup? Suprised you dont use that as it stops bots in their tracks. But it also keeps total signups to a website down to realistic levels. Some sites want the large numbe of 'members'.
|
Custom questions are not a feature of vb3.6. When we upgrade then we will almost certainly make use of them.
|
Well, how about using a NoSpam! or some of the anti-spamming mods that people donate to vB.org?
|
Just use Captcha or some basic No Spam human verification when registering.
This is a simple problem to solve. |
How about just add the custom question with a simple mod? That's why this is a MODIFCATION site, albeit one that seems too scared to add actual mods or even upgrade to a modern version of vBulletin.

That's awesome lol. It'd be awesomer if they were able to be all put into plugins though :P
|
and stop spammers...lol
|
vbstopforumspam mod would really help to cut down on it. that mod eliminated 99.9% of spam on all my forums.

Prevent people from posting links for the first 5 posts UNLESS they are a liscensed customer?
I doubt spambots have vb liscenses. |
That would require yet another modification.
Its not such an issue atm that we need to do anything more than remove them using the normal "reported > zapped" process. :) |

As long as you guys don't get irritated by me I'll keep reporting them lol sometimes I try to be funny so the admin/mod checking can have a smile or laugh if it's been a long day I'm sure you've noticed that by now though :p |
