Please increase the maximum number of Private Messages on vb.org
Please increase the maximum number of PMs to 1.000. 500 PMs including sent messages does not allow me to store all the important correspondence with coders. I know I can download old messages and clear out what I have, but vbulletins PM history is very useful when talking to coders and discussing code edits. Especially if they respond after a long time.

I second to that!
|
I third, fourth, and 5th. I have to delete my inbox constantly and sometimes i'd rather keep some of the conversation just for reference and what not since the majority are requests.
|
Same here but you know this will increase the vb.org DB and they just took down the servers to make them better... if it's a no for now perhaps when you switch to 4.0 I mean I would settle for 750 even :D
|
It'll never happen. I couldn't even get an increase when I left the staff here. Staff were allowed a limit of 1000 so upon being dropped to 500 I had to go and delete over 500 of my messages :) Exports don't cut it, to be frank.
|
Well that stinks. At least they should give the coders/designers more privileges here. Just a suggestion.
|
I usually just ask people to move the conversation to Email. More convenient.
Mind you, I have hit the peak quite a few times now and maybe that is a factor. :) More would definitely be helpful. |
it could have not been for me till now , but i mainly just ask people to talk to me via email , or seperate Yahoo Messanger ID.
there I can save important convo's and also it is nice front to front talk is more convinient. But i only do have 183 messages , i should not be speaking here :D :D !!! |
There have been several occassions where I've had to delete pms. I can't agree that 500 pm messages would be so important that they have to be kept. I guess popularity has it's pit falls. I find if you insert a "please don't pm me for support" this will lower your pms.
Having a full pms does have it's positives. I personally think we should have them lowered not increased. Something around 1-2 as a maximum limit would be good. I'd be totally against an increase in the pm amount. |
that just might work this time.

that being said, my inbox is 96% full ATM :p |
My inbox is always 98% or 99% full.

We have discussed this internally, and feel that a large increase (100%) is simply not justified.
In fact, the number of members who are close to the current limit is very small (less than 0.1%). However, we have gone ahead and applied a 20% increase (to 600). Note that any further increase is extremely unlikely. |
PS Unless you clean up, any limit will not be enough after some time.

500 is already too much and if you are finding it less, you'll also find 1000 less. |

try Email Conversation or store your most important messages i don't think you all have 500 MOST IMPORTANT MEssages lol take care bye fokes :-h |
Until we get threaded PMs, I don't think having a more PM space really helps anything.

THANKS!! Yes many opinions here but for now I shall run off quietly into the night with my 100+ new pm slots :p |
I don't care about the amount I can store, but is there some way to display ALL PMs on one page so I can download them all at once? Its tedious to go through multiple pages. I don't know if this is something that exists already in vBulletin and I just over looked it, or if it could be added.

I usually download messages and import them in something like Excel, then delete a bunch of the oldest ones in the Inbox.
|
Why is vb.org so stingy on space?

1 of the reasons is very simple and is not related to space limitations or such: We don't want to encourage discussing issues in private instead of public threads where the entire community may benefit from the answers.

IIRC someone mentioned a system where you can store them on your pc, I had it and it was from here, just got a new pc thou (for space purposes would you believe lol) and lost it :(
:D |
You don't need a system, it's default vbulletin. Just click the save as text link at the bottom of the PM page.
