Default Avatar

1 Attachment(s)
This plugin will make a default avatar show for all users if the user does not have an avatar. This works in the postbit, profiles, and members list. It uses the image "images/misc/unknown.gif" by default, which is used in several locations for the same purpose, and works on vB 3.7+ and vB4. This is editable in the Admin CP under vBulletin Options -> User Picture Options -> Default Avatar Image Location.

Updates:
  • 1.0 - 3.5 release by Zachery - unsupported.
  • 2.0 - Initial 3.7+ release.
    • 2.0.1 - Slight bugfix relating to users disabling avatar display. This setting does not affect avatars on the profile or memebers list by default, so this addon should not take it into account for those pages.
    • 2.0.2 - Added a setting to control the location of the image. See the updated description for details.

This works for vBulletin 4.0 as well as 3.7+. vB4 thread located here.

I suppose I'll snag the first reply. It could come in handy someday down the road.

I totally cannot tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

It's a Good Mod and I use it.

This is good and I use it on every site I design. Good job!

There you go. Thank you for your efforts. Go Zachery! (I said it!)

Robru 09-13-2009 07:41 AM

Thank you for this revison :)

euantor 09-13-2009 08:29 AM

Thanks or this :)

MagicThemeParks 09-13-2009 11:21 AM

On a past default avatar mod that I used it didn't include all locations. Does this one cover all locations that the avatars are used? If it does, this rock! :)

Yes, members list, postbit, profile.

Hasann 09-13-2009 01:21 PM

There are the advantages towards ZH - No avatars (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=165563)?

Works on profile page, works on the members list without forcing it to display avatars when you disabled them. I'd say this "disadvantage" if there would be one is I did not add a setting to change the path of the file - mainly because unknown.gif is already used elsewhere for the same purpose.

This is basically just an upgrade and bug-fix of Zachery's version that I put together and made work correctly.

Shaheen 09-13-2009 07:48 PM

Thanks :) lucky got a space on first page :D

I just did a slight update to this plugin:

"2.0.1 - Slight bugfix relating to users disabling avatar display. This setting does not affect avatars on the profile or memebers list by default, so this addon should not take it into account for those pages."

Not too large of a bug, but something that just wasn't consistent. Just re-upload the new product.xml and allow overwrite to upgrade.

princeedward 09-14-2009 08:53 AM

do we have options to disable this or not? anyway thanks for this great and useful mod...;)

MagicThemeParks 09-14-2009 09:56 AM

Works great! Thanks!

Just disable the product in the product manager. :)

Llandy 09-14-2009 10:37 AM

Very nice, works like a charm.

segwayon 09-14-2009 11:01 AM

We had been using an earlier default avatar mod which as someone said only uses one avatar location. Before uploading your XML, I edited it to point to our own custom default avatar, and it seems to be working fine. There ought not be any problems pointing to a different image file, no?

Kolbi 09-14-2009 11:05 AM

Does this hack need many ressources?

Nope, just remember that you'd have to do it again if there was another update released. Of course, this is one of those addons small enough that I can say that I am confident that it won't need another release.

Nope. Very simple plugins of 3-4 lines each. Just simple conditional statements.

Can this be modified so i can use .png files instead of .gif files?

I have made a custom unknown avatar but it has to be in png format, due to the rarity of my skin, as it is the only one of it's kind in the world.........:D

Link14716 09-16-2009 12:16 AM

I just pushed out another update to this - 2.0.2: "Added a setting to control the location of the image. See the updated description for details."

The option in question is located in the Admin CP under vBulletin Options -> User Picture Options -> Default Avatar Image Location. If you want to change it from the default image to something else, that will be where you should do it.

As of the latest update that I just uploaded, yes. See the above post.

SᴩiDᴇЯ 09-16-2009 01:41 AM

Thank you works great 100%.

segwayon 09-16-2009 03:16 AM

It updated like a charm. I wasn't sure how the default icon location would work, so before uploading and installing the 2.02 update I edited the icon file name and path to match my criteria. I like that it now lists the option in the AdminCP for the default icon, so it can easily be changed at will. Thanks!

Maybe the ZH - No Avatar works different than this.
It shows on most pages i believe.

This works on all pages that "ZH - No Avatar" works on plus member profiles.

It doesn't work with profile pictures, but that's not the point of the product. Not a bad idea for consideration for either an option for this product or another mini product.

Hello

I really like this mod, but I have 1 request.

Would it be possible to be able to define which usergroups (through usergroup id's i guess) the default avatar works with. Such as only allowing the default avatr to work with usergroups 1,2,3 etc.

djwins 09-21-2009 05:36 AM

Suggestion: If a user has no avatar (and is displaying the default avatar), when he clicks on his own avatar, it should take him to profile.php?do=editavatar

MagicThemeParks 09-21-2009 10:29 AM

djwins, I was going to suggest just the same thing! Would be a great addition! :)

jimsflies 09-29-2009 07:11 PM

It would be nice if you could specify different default avatars by user group. Are there any mods that currently do that?
