Cel User's Social Groups on Forum Home (like forumlist, fully templated)
 

What does it do?

• Shows all social groups the actual user is a member of or is subscribed to, just below the forumlist (or anywhere else on forumhome).
• If there are new messages, the corresponding forum statusicon is highlighted - just like in forumlist.
• Instead of the statusicons, you can show the group's icon
• If there are no groups to show, you can choose to show a teaser message.

Things to set in AdminCP/Options:

• use template hook to output or - more flexible - make manual template edit
• show member of / subscribed to /nothing
• sort by name or last message date
• limit max number of groups shown, then link to appropriate page (grouplist for members, usercp for subscribers)
• restrict use by usergroup
• show a teaser message if there are no groups to show
• show buttons to open new discussion etc.
• apply custom css to grouptitle
• trim group description to max length or disable
• parse bbcode in group descriptions
• use a different set of statusicons for groups than for forums
• show groupicon instead of statusicon, and choose whether you want to show original size or resized to standard statusicon size

Looks

• Out of the box: copies the standard look of the forumlist on forumhome.
• Fully templated.

Install/upgrade

1. Upload folder "images" to your forum root (can be omitted if you do not want to use the buttons).
2. Import the product file.
3. Check settings in AdminCP->Options->Social Groups on Forumhome.

Technical stuff

• 3 templates (following the forumbit-scheme)
• 2 plugins
• 2 queries to forumhome (only if groups are shown, of course).
• a bunch of phrases (prefix: cel_sgfh_).
• 4 png-buttons, taken from the silk icon set.

Limitations

• Marking of new messages only works with database, not with cookie based marking of read threads (-> AdminCP setting)
• 3.7 Discussion groups will show up as "no messages yet" as long as there was no message written under a version 3.8.0 or higher

• 4.0.006: fixed minor display bug when no discussions yet in group and fixed encoding issue reported by Been_Told
• 4.0.005: fixed small PHP 5.3 issue
• 4.0.004: fixed group's icon styling issues (thanks to ZexTasy for some useful hints) and added resize option, implemented suggestions (f.e. using template hook now)
• 4.0.003: Adapted to vB4 beta 3, first public release
• 4.0.001: Ported to vB4 alpha 1

Does TMS work in 4.0 ? (Just curious, i dont use it).

Why? If you're updating from 3.7 to 4.0, that's just what it will say, even if there are messages in the social group. For a more verbose explanation see the 3.8 version of the mod ;)

Well, since the question came up and I don't know if Andreas did any testing with it until now: For me the current 3.8-version just worked fine and dandy!

Das ist ein Problem der deutschen Sprachdatei. Entferne $session[sessionurl_q] aus der Phrase cel_sgfh_no_social_groups.

Bitte habe Verst?ndnis daf?r dass ich hier nicht dauerhaft deutschsprachigen Support biete. Die Sprache hier ist halt englisch. Auf deutsch bist Du auf vbulletin-germany.org besser aufgehoben.

The bug mentioned is not a bug in the modification but in the German language file which as of yet is not up to vB4 standards.

This is for the Formuhome, yes. You can try to adapt the two plugins to suite your needs (i.e. change the hooks), and you would need to change the variable preregistration from FORUMHOME to whatever, but then it might work. Havn't tried it, tho.

I have no idea what you're asking. Please explain in greater detail. You can show subscribed groups, but what do you mean by "based on actual group category"?

Social Groups are assigned a certain category when you create it right? Instead of showing all your social group subscription in one long list like:

Groups
- My Subscribed Group 1
- My Subscribed Group 2
- My Subscribed Group 3
- My Subscribed Group 4
- My Subscribed Group 5

Maybe you can provide an option to show them under their specific categories:

Category 1
- My Subscribed Group 1
- My Subscribed Group 2

Category 2
- My Subscribed Group 3

Category 3
- My Subscribed Group 4
- My Subscribed Group 5
