I love the UK
.... especially a nice Scottish Breakfast. But I will very happily settle for an English Breakfast, or an Irish one.
Clog mah arteries with the love! --------------- Added [DATE]1249866815[/DATE] at [TIME]1249866815[/TIME] --------------- Plus I just got back from a trip to nearby Inverness. Landscapes to die for, sheer beauty in the summer. |

Good marmelade is another thing to die for. |
Glasgow isn't so eye candy, infact I thought it was a dump. Greenock several miles a way is another story, breathtaking scenery when i last visited.
Before I ventured to scotland I took a detour to the lake district which has some of the best scenic views in england. Stayed in Penrith for a weekend with a friend and she showed me the views. |

Glasgow can be whatever you want really, you can go to the old parts and get swampped in scottish history or go to the more modern parts and see why so many people visit Glasgow every year.
Like every town and city in the UK and i'm sure thoughout the world theres two sides to what you want to see, the good and the bad, Its the same everywhere, be it London, Manachester, Paris, New York (Now i sound like a perfume ad :D) Glasgow, has become an up and coming hot-spot. Especially since 1990 when it was named the European City of Culture. Over the last two decades, however, Glasgow has been on a steep, upward curve, first with a civic campaign, "Glasgow's Miles Better," which promoted hometown pride in the 1980's, and then in 1990 when it was named the European City of Culture. Creativity and tourist-friendly businesses flourished, helped in part by a large student population. Today, neighborhoods like Merchant City and the West End are buzzing with new bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/08/81.jpg Glasgow University, popular with Students around the globe ;) |
The architecture in Scotland is second to none. Castles are favourable and in scotland there seems to be an abundance of them which have become populour around the world and that boosts the tourism trade.
Visiting Greenock some 12 years ago the visuals there are nice especially the shipyards that flourished in the early 20th centuries where some of the famous ships were built. On the river clyde if I'm not mistaken. :D |
Nice to see you spelled it right this time Shelley "Greenock and not what you said in post 4
Mind you the scots do tend to drink a bit and perhaps thats a side effect :D:D |
LOL - I must have been thinking of some terrible male disease.

I'll jump in and disagree with you there Tim. :) There's always a smiley to express that emotion. ;)
What was it about the UK that makes you swoon and go wobbly at the knees? And, do you think the uk has got better or deteriorated? We all know that green belt areas of Britain once protected are now being built upon due to the increase of people in the uk . I fear that the greenbelt land which was once protected from the urban busters are now easily destroyed because of growth. Heck, think what scotland could be like in a few years, no scenic views to marvel at. :) I guess it all part of the give and take chain of command. |
Thread cleaned up slightly. Play nice people.

I love Loch Lomond its a stunning place
You can get a nice wee dram :D |
The wee dram. Hated whiskey for the best part of my life, smelling it made me bulk but since mixing it with other beverages the dram is now a dream. Dream dram on the tram. Or so to speak.
I felt like I was on a tram drinking the dram. Couldn't remember a thing the day afterwards apart from the room spinning. Dream dram, For today's man. and wo-man. |
Scotland is a beautiful place, i have traveled the length and bredth of it, and i live there :D
|
Not everywhere in this country is a s***hole, full of rapists, paedophiles, muggers, stabbers, shooters, robbers and unruly youths... as the daily mail would have you believe ;)

No problems on the streets in my area. It's a large town with lots of private and council estates.
YES, as with most Cities/towns there are areas where gangs congregate. They have by no means taken over the streets and TBH you don't need to go into those areas unless you have friends that live in the area. There's definitely NOT a lot of problems. I can honestly say my town is not a place where mindless yobs rule or spoil any part of the town. It's no garden of Eden but we have a beautiful coastline and the riverside regeneration is transforming the area into something very pleasant. Yes a lot of people are moving into the area. |

Also i see whats going on because im on the street most days so stop pretending that everyone is rosey when infact it is not. Its not all doom and gloom but its not far from it. |
There are lots of towns you can walk at night. That doesn't mean it's a good idea.
