Displays forums inluding their unread threads depending on users behavior:
reading, writing, subscribing, moderating posts. The product displays an interactive tab as you see in the screenshot. The tab has different categories:
  • subscribed forums
  • moderated forums
  • forums where you read threads
  • forums where you posted
This is done in real time for each user. It also displays unread threads if there are any. You choose in admincp, where the product is shown on FORUMHOME (Startpage):
  • after all forums
  • on top after navbar

Great mod :)

My suggestion and hopefully what everyone would love to see is this block right after the first post.

My 2 cents :)

ThorstenA 07-29-2009 07:26 PM

Thanks for your feedback! I can make an admincp option with
  • option to set maximum numbers of threads
  • option to place the product on either ad_template[firstpost_start] or template_hook[showthread_after_active_users]
What do you think about showing the forumtitle? Do you think its useful?

If you like to be informed about updates, you can click INSTALL.

Preview of upcoming options.
Please click install to be informed when the new update comes out. This update provides you with
  • caching templates
  • subforum icon displayed (new/old depending on forum status)
  • control of the rss feed threads
  • set the maximum number of threads shown
  • set where you want to display the product:
    1. manually - anywhere on SHOWTHREAD
    2. after first post
    3. after users online

This product is part of a larger product that will also include displaying forums/threads on FORUMHOME.

DDdddeeeemmmmooooo pretty please?

Screenshots ok but I want more lol :D

Also please do some style updates, I see you requested feedback so great.. I know you can make this look better so get to it rofl (j/k) it has potential but if it's just in showthread and you add tooo much styling it will just make showthread longer and longer and longer when with this is should be ease of use IMO.

Settings
  • The current version supports manual and automatic placements.
  • More placements (after first post) are coming in upcoming versions.
  • Set maximum of threads that are displayed
  • Technology behind the scene: Templates are cached.

Attachment 102663
Unregistered users view
Unregistered users see only a link to the first topic. This view is also displayed to registered users if there are no unread threads. The design has changed and is ready to the upcoming multi-tab-view. Technology behind the scene: These threads are fetched from RSS.

Attachment 102664
Registered users view
A link to the last unread post is provided. The subforum icon is activated.

Your suggestions
I am curious what you think of this product and am looking forward for your comments. I am thinking of implementing a 0-query solution, were you can opt-in on admincp for only showing threads fetched from the RSS-Feed. That improves speed.

It's meant to guide users after they read a thread to another topic from your forum, instead of leaving your page. The placement after all posts is therefore one of the best places this product has on SHOWTHREAD.

FORUMHOME (currently only for registered users)
On Forumhome there is a new view of Tabulators below the forums:
  1. Moderated Forums
  2. Subscribed Forums
  3. Participated Forums - where user wrote posts
  4. Read Forums - where user read posts
The tabs are interactive - click on one and the content is instantly presented. Only tabs with content are presented. For example, if a use does not moderate any forums, no moderator tab is displayed. If you moderate forums or have forums subscribed, these forums are always displayed - regardeless if there are new threads or not. The forum icon matches its actual read status.

Please download the newest product with version number 4. Does it work now? Can you give me a test user account (normal user) to your forum so I can take a look into your issue? Thanks.

The link is on the first post. I updated the product file.

VonDoom 07-30-2009 05:57 PM

Hmm it is showing on forum home but nothing on Showthread. I do like the idea behind this module though. I assume its a conflict with another hack. i have far to many ;) Also it dosent seem to be inheriting the colors from my themes.

If you like, you can disable all other products and see if this product works for you on SHOWTHREAD.

The colors are not fetched from vbulletin style. It is the normal style from Yahoo YUI. The new upcoming vbulletin 4 is also based on Yahoo YUI - if it comes out, this product will most likely available in user vbulletin style.

VonDoom 07-30-2009 06:05 PM

thanks for the reply i will fiddle with this tonight after my forum is less active and report the conflict back. A+ support.

Activate RSS Feed
You may also see if you activated in admincp the external feeds. And when activated, see manually if there are any feeds from this forum. On some unbusy forums there are no threads from rss feed. I am looking forward to check for rss feed in upcoming versions.

Ahhh great it is actually working, once I try to sort the style out it will be great

Thanks for your feedback! Do you want to style the product itself? I am also interested how you do that. Personal Forums use YUI Tabview for display purposes. You find the information how to style the YUI Tabview here:

http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examp.../skinning.html

ive never tried styling before all other mods normally do it automatically. But i'll have to give it a try as this mod stands out like a sore thumb on my forum at the moment

I found the styling of YUI css not that easy. I 'd like to present an "automatic styling" function.

matthewhotdude 07-30-2009 07:29 PM

Yea I looked at that link and no way can I do it!! Ill have to uninstall untill someone can mod this to pull the styles on its own

Nice work, installed.

If possible:

- Would like ability to "sort" the list of unread threads by popularity (views), so if I choose only to show the top 5, it's the top 5 most viewed threads that are unread

- There is a lot of room on the right side of the table, maybe you can put more info like the original poster username and last post date plus a thread preview there? all options of course via admincp.

Hey Mike! Great suggestions!
  1. the unread threads are note unsorted but sorted by last time. I am not sure if you knew that. Would you still prefer to let them be sorted after threadview? I could also do that. It makes sense, too.
  2. Actually I have put this product on my custom cms where it is on the left bar. I am planning to put this product later as a vb4 widget so it will be presented in a small place, too. Therefore I'd like to make the product only present the information most important: Thread title. I see that there is much room on the right that is not used. I am not sure if it brings more specific user activity when showing the user more and more information about the same thing (thread title). Thread preview is only about the first post - correct me if I am wrong - I am therefore note a big fan of its usefulness. But it's not impossible to convince me with arguments :)
  3. I am curious about more suggestions. Please write me if you have more ideas! I take everything into consideration and am constantly updating this product.

PGAmerica 08-02-2009 05:45 PM

I may be just being an idiot, but I don't understand what this mod does. Can somebody please give me a more in-depth description than what is in the first post?

ThorstenA 08-02-2009 06:07 PM

The product displays an interactive tab as you see in the screenshot. The tab has different categories:
- subscribed forums
- moderated forums
- forums where you read threads
- forums where you posted

This is done for each user. It also displays unread threads if there are any.

PGAmerica 08-02-2009 06:21 PM

Where does it place this interactive tab?
