Vb or IPB 3.0?
Everyone keeps telling me how amazing IPB 3.0 is and how I need to make the switch after many years of a huge Vb supporter and I just used it and it doesn't seem that great... out of the box its pretty and all but there aren't many mods or themes but maybe that will change and I think the admin panel is a mess. What do you guys think?
|
hmm, you do realize your asking this on a vbulletin help site right?
|
Yeah which means if you guys actually support IPB its a huge deal. Why would I care what people who already used IPB would think? They are fools lol
|
you should ask on a general webmaster forum
95% of the ppl are going to go with vBulletin, since that is what they are using same thing if you asked on an IPB help site, they would all vote IPB  |
Whether you use vB or not, you must give credit where it's due.. IPB is a top competitor for a reason.. I personally preferred vB over them previously, which is why I'm even here in the first place.
That being said, 3.0 looks to be another solid release from them, and it looks like they will still be competition for Jelsoft. Nice updated theme (though, I'm not a fan of that markup visible in view source... can you say, "div bloat"? : shudder : ), just as feature rich, not quite as expensive as vB (though.. six months of upgrades? weird.. even then $50 / year for upgrades isn't a bad deal). They're one up on vB right now.. better get 4.0 up and running soon.. :) |
IPB perhaps is a competitor - but vBulletin remains the Leader. And for a reason - It's the premium online interactive forum software. 3.8.3 has a solid array of features which supercedes any IPB release IMO - I've actually heard from people who Admin IPB forums that the IPB Community was not very happy with the 3.0 release. I've heard it's a beast to customize and overall - a clunky piece of software - I've actually used it on several forums I belong to - I would choose vBulletin any and everyday of the week.
Now - all that said is without any 1st-hand knowledge about the IPB feature set or having actually run or tested IPB 3.0 on my own server... But I have used as an end-user and vBulletin 3.8.3 is much more impressive in my opinion, with a more impressive modification community like the .org -- I think 4.0 will add another array of features/integrations that will continue keeping vBulletin the Leader in online interactive applications = Woohoo :) Jacquii. |

I have both and there are good and bad to both. For a novice, I think VB is easier but still difficult as I think there is just way too much. With IPB, a buyer seems to have to know a little more about coding and that is a pain in the rear. I haven't looked at my IPB site in ages because it's not active but I'll upgrade and see what it looks like.
As far as designers, IPB has some outstanding designers very willing to help when they can. When I was first thinking about purchasing IPB for the heck of it, a well known IPB designer set up a live board for me so I could check it out before I buy. Told me to keep it as long as I needed. I thought that was awsome. I think tech support is much better for IPB and I'm so thankful I've found a great VBulletin hosting company with good tech support or I think I would have switched my live forum to IPB. But as far as features, VB has it hands down, especially with social enhancements and add-ons. Just a note from the peanut gallery:) crap I ment to choose VB on the poll, mods change my vote to VB please. Gracias. |

I like the IPB style, especially IPB 3.0 style. The IPB style is more clear, easier to read than vBulletin. Concerning the use by the user (end user), IPB is better than vBulletin.
However, the template management, administration, panel, etc... there's no comparison. It's vB. So I vote vB :D |

IPB have always had a visual superiority over vbulletin. I don't expect that to ever change, They (jelsoft) don't know how to slice their GDK ;). There are some areas (which I'm tired of posting) where IPB have always been ahead of vbulletin (permissions system being one) but overall vbulletin is my choice.
I recently tinkered with IPB 3.0 and like how it performs, feels and then I went into the template system. Hmmmm, suffice to say I closed it down after that. I'm sure I can easily style for the ipb software but I am not willing to adapt. I voted IpB 3 because I'm not taking this poll seriously. |
I'm going to go with vBulletin here. For me, I already posted enough about why I prefer the software elsewhere, including a few relatively long blog entries, an FAQ and a fanlisting, but I'm gonna say I prefer the current version to Invision Power Board 3.0, and I can definitely say I'm going to try and likely prefer vBulletin 4 to IPB 3.0.

I like nothing about IPB over VB :D VB is the software for me!
|
I use IPB from the members point of view on several forums and find it a royal pain, it looks good, the interface is neat but for me that is it,the content is bitty and unfriendly.
I recently tried their demo and again thought the ACP menu system looked very neat, this did not mean it was "useable" though. Looking at their website , is it me or is it hard to find any real information or help links? The free forum offerings appear to have better sites than IPB . |
This poll is about as insightful as if you were to post a poll on a Mac forum asking users if they preferred Mac or PC.

...not. |
I'm sure the people at IB will come up with things I like on the visual side that I prefer over ipb. On an overall appearance, I am quite confident in saying it won't have a visual superiority over IPB. It hasn't yet, and I don't expect it will. Unless the style previews shown are fake.
I'll see when beta is released and be the judge. |
who cares which is better - we still have to pay.
|
I never personally got all the complaints of having to pay for an upgrade and what not, are people really that stingy they can't afford to? Or is it because people take terms of service as permanent and non changeable?

I come over from PHPBB2/3. When I was hunting for new forum software IPB wasn't on the radar. I will admit, lately I've been snooping, played w/the demo a bit. Probably because of all the 4.0 talk, I was interested to see what the other companies are up to.
One of the best things I like about vB is the community, it's second to none (imo) and just so long as that stays unchanged and the software remains affordable I don't care about vB 4.0, 5.0 or vB 331/3 I will continue to be a customer, member, and supporter. |
No clue!
2 reasons: 1. I've never used IPB 3.0 2. I'm permanently banned from purchasing licenses or using IPB. |
