Collapsable Postbits
1 Attachment(s)
This hack was originally released by Steve St.Lauren for vb3.0.x in this thread -
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=68043 This is a port of that hack and ALL credit goes to Steve for this modification. Basically, what this hack does is it takes all the extra user info like join date, location, age, posts etc and slaps them into a table that can be collapsed or expanded. If you collapse it, it'll store that setting in your cookies and all user infos will be collapsed fro then on til you expand it again :) Your selection WILL carry over to private messages as well :) Please click da instally thinga magigy ;) O and you won't have to clear any cookies for this to work, or for it to remember your settings. Things To Do: 1. Edit /clientscript/vbulletin_global.js (1 modification) 2. Import new product xml 3. Edit postbit_legacy template 4. Edit postbit template Updates:

The modification is seen on showthread.php so not sure why this is the wrong section..

Uploaded new screenshots. I wrote this modification back when I was running a different forum that had awards, rpg, pets etc. So it was crazy insane everything we wanted to put into the postbit.
This let us do it, without it being crowded for those that didn't want to see all that. The forum I'm working on now isn't doing all that stuff yet, but it should still give you an idea what it does :) |
Is there any chance that someone who uses Cpanel could tell me what I use to open the vbulletin_global.js file to edit it? (Encoding, and which edit function - code editor?) What I've got right now is the code in one huge long line - is that what I'm supposed to be seeing?
|
I noticed the same thing when I opened the new JS script. It's fine if you do see it in a line, just go to the spot the install text mentions and add a few extra lines and then paste in the code and it'll be fine :)

Thanks so much, I appreciate the help. :)

I had this working fine but upgrading to 3.8.5 messed it up: now instead of collapsing the tables, the collapse button works as a 'go to top' link. Does anybody happen to know why, offhand?
---------------------- Figured it out, sorry - I should have checked this before posting. For whatever reason, the upgrade took out the change that has to be made to vbulletin_global.js. |
Any chance of making a 4.0.x version of this?

Apparently not compatible with anything above 3.8.4? Installed on a 3.8.6 and have same issue as "lostgirl" above. Instead of collapsing the tables, the collapse button works as a 'go to top' link.
Is the OP still supporting this? |
I need it in vb 4 there something like that?
|
Upon investigation, I've found this mod is not much more than a standard vBulletin 3.x.x feature, re-purposed. The "Posting Rules" collapsible table at the bottom of every showthread page is the same thing almost verbatim and works the same way. In fact, this feature is the same wherever tables are collapsible anywhere in vB3.x.x.

I have a postbit very extensive and the truth is that I like to hide it xD

Can't say as I blame you.

I went back to the client area of vB.com and downloaded the UNCOMPRESSED JAVASCRIPT FILES and followed the instructions here, for the modification of vbulletin_global.js, modifying the UNCOMPRESSED global.js file so I could see exactly what the hell to do. I then went ahead and uploaded this modified, uncompressed global_js file to the server for testing. Anyone have any ideas on now, collapsing the global.js file? Is it necessary? |
