is that possible to block someone by Mac Address

Dear all

I have a problem , these few days one or two member trying to attack my forums

I have block all the IPs he used , but he can change IP .

Is there any way I can recorder everyone's MAC address , and block user by MAC address ?

Marco van Herwaarden 07-14-2009 09:48 AM

No.

acyk 07-14-2009 09:54 AM

Thank you , Marco

So , we can't do anything about this ? or you have any suggestion ?

tipoboy 07-14-2009 09:58 AM

why dont you place all new registrations in a moderation que, so you personally have to accept new members?

Marco van Herwaarden 07-14-2009 10:15 AM

There are some tools like multi-login detector, or even Misserable users.

but these will come to be useless since the person can easily change the ip or just get proxy ip. With the modems mac address it cannot be changed and always remain to be same

there are cookie hacks as well.

Marco van Herwaarden 07-15-2009 10:36 AM

That is why, like mentioned in the previous post, these modifications work on additional info like a cookie.

PS Who claims the MAC-address can not be changed?

ubcforums 07-15-2009 06:30 PM

MAC-address can be changed only if he replaces the hardware

No, they can be changed, but most people don't know how. Still, they aren't transmitted beyond the router, and the routers don't go beyond the ISP so they can't be used to block a person.

Incorrect.

Also if someone uses a good proxy it'll give you the mac of the proxy instead.

I've looked at doing it, there isn't any feasible way to capture a mac reliably enough
