What's so hard about saying thank you?

Have you ever noticed that people put posts up here for help and get their answer and never reply saying thank you? Honestly, what is so hard about saying thank you these days?

Perhaps it's a generation thing ...

TNCclubman 07-11-2009 01:06 PM

Nintendo generation.

Hasann 07-11-2009 02:09 PM

For many people, it's probably just because they're rude, I've always personally said 'thank you' to everyone. Although for others, I don't think many actually come back and view the threads after posting their question, and they probably just run out of patience after about three minutes of waiting for an answer and go somewhere else. Or just forgot about their topics.

mikey1991 07-11-2009 10:35 PM

I always say thanks.

Freesteyelz 07-11-2009 11:03 PM

I don't think people are necessarily rude. Rather some just don't think about the value of a 'Thank you'. I personally say my Thank Yous not out of obligation but because I'm thankful for the responses and help. It goes a long way.

NakedAlien 07-16-2009 07:33 AM

Maybe they forget.. Don't know how they can but maybe :D

Trip 07-19-2009 12:48 AM

I agree w/Cheat Master. Some people post the same question on a number of forums looking for help and sometime only respond to one forum (if at all). People get the feeling that they are anonymous on the net and manners don't matter. I would disagree.

Thank you for this thread :D

Shelley_c 07-19-2009 01:29 AM

The thing that annoys me about people is not that they can't say thankyou. It's just that most people just don't think about it. If they ask for support they could atleast reply in saying it worked or that solution you gave fixed my problem.

Your left wondering if this actually helped the person and could benfit other people who have the same issues. People of this nature I never help again. Thankyou or not I don't really require nor do I expect it so it doesn't bother me too much apart from what I explained above.

FreshFroot 07-19-2009 01:46 AM

The reason I don't ALWAYS do it is because I've gotten infractions at many forums for "spaming".

I post: thank you and appreciate the help

A day later find out I got an infraction for a spam post LOL. This is not here, or at least I can't recall it happening here so far at vB.org. But it has come up on other admin forums.

So I decided to not say anything, unless I see lots of others post a thank you.

Better yet, vB should implement the thank you hack. ;)

JakeS 07-19-2009 03:35 AM

Take a look at the current generation of kids outside (13 14 etc).

Theirs the answer. (At least in UK, our streets are like a battle field LOL)

People simply don't bring up their kids how they used to, they don't teach them what's bad and good properly (I used to get a hit if I was naughty.. I soon learned LOL), nor do they bring their kids up with manners.

And it's also that a lot of people simply forget they ever posted. Or otherwise are just plain ignorant.

And ones who do post thanks. Good on them! :)

As for me.. Do I post thanks? Yes Always if it helped me.

Merjawy 07-19-2009 04:29 AM

The main issue is that vB.org did not install the " Thank you " hack ... so its realy hard for some :) ... ding ding ding

oh btw.. thank you

A simple thanks is one great thing to find nowadays, even if I am 15, I do understand the fact a simple thank you is a good thing. Though, with all the jack---es on the internet, the ignorant people, etc... It's just not worth thanking some people.

I've kind of just got fed up with quite a few people on this website, they're always demanding more because they SAY so, not because they're thankful.

Really, a simple "Thank you" is very nice for a developer to hear every once in a while. </rant>

@WoW video: I think I know that kid O_o looked familiar... Though I don't think he's THAT dorky...

Humanity is not getting better - where is your proof of this ?

Everyday the human race thinks up new ways to torture his fellow man.
Also the youth of today are getting away with murder and thats because the kids have no respect and thats down to the goverment and all the other do gooders telling people what they can and cannot do with their kids.
A good smack would`nt do half of these kids any harm and most of them proberly need it.

As for the older generations starting wars then dont worrie as this generation and the rest to follow will do exactly the same.

Probably the fact that we are getting less violent towards one another as time goes on.

But you know, keep spouting off anecdotes and such. I enjoy hearing them, nerd raging, then proving you wrong.

Stops at 03. Seems to be US Only..

Anyhow.. you think the streets are safe in england? go into a little suburb, like the ones were you walk in an area, if you don't have the same post code as them, they'll kill you.

Trust me. This world is no better than it's ever been.

"Crime rates" are generally judged by whom has been imprisioned and caught.. How can they say it's a youth, if they don't know the killer? Stat's are never right, as the government always lie anyway.

England is like America now, where it never used to be. It's like a battle field. Really.

PS: "Technically" it's my generation that are bad (90's)

u need to STOP taking your pills,as your seeing the world in a different light to the way im seeing it.

The world is getting more violent because people dont care about anyone else except themselfs. For every good person out there, theres a 1000 bad ones.

Also you aint proved anything - where is your proof that we are getting less violent towards one another ?
You said you provide proof but where is it ?

I can provide proof that we getting more violent and even the killers are getting younger.
Adults used to kill kids - now it kids killing kids and adults - how the tables have turned.
Wonder how long it will be before we have our first infant killer (still in nappies)

GSeybold 07-21-2009 02:15 PM

I'm so VERY thankful for coders and I do see that they care kind of treated badly here. I mean really, they aren't getting paid for any of this but some members treat coders like they've paid for something-so demanding and rude some of the time.

MissKalunji 07-21-2009 07:52 PM

I blame todays upbringing...

Notice even on the street you would hold the door for anyone and they would look at you dead in the eyes and say nothing?

Tim Skellett 07-22-2009 01:36 AM

Not me.

I always try to say thanks, though sometimes I leave something for a week, then come back to the thread to say thanks for answers to my questions.

And I often open the door for others.
______

Not that I am saying that humanity is getting better (though thanks for the flamewar entertainment) or that it is getting worse. Or main bad thing about Britain is the beer and the price of ciggies.

Hey, I'm just a'lurking.

Obviously you have not been around enough women in big cities. They will yell at you if you hold the door open for them. They want to be as equal as a man.

So be it! I never get up to offer my seat on the transit system anymore. They expect to be treated like a lady with men benefits. GAWD! :D

I've noticed that since I put this post up - a few cheeky thank you's have emerged!

hehe - loving it! beggers can't be choosers ;) a "thanks" is a "thanks" ;)

oh - and I don't blame any social group for anything. I like the answer FreshFroot gave about being "infracted" - and the answer cheat-master30 gave about multiple posts. Although the multiple posters annoy me - asking the question once will yield the same result.

This 100%. I couldn't have said it better myself. I tend to get a lot of downtime at work, so I pass some of it by trying to help people here. I just tend to wonder if I'm actually helping or not, so I appreciate when someone says it worked (or didn't). If 5 people have the same question (and usually do), I don't want to give 5 people the same wrong answer, ya know?

cheat-master30 07-30-2009 09:38 PM

To the person who mentioned multiple posters/posts, it's pretty much because some people are apparently incredibly impatient and seem to think not getting a reply in three minutes is a reason to bump a topic and/or make a new topic with the exact same question. When these people then don't say thank you when they get help...

08-07-2009 12:57 PM

Really strange why people don't say thank you for help when they get what they need. As for me i always thank people even if their advice isn't very good....
