Do You Plan On Installing the vb 4.0 Beta

When the first beta of vb 4.0 is released do you guys plan on installing it or holding out?

EnIgMa1234 07-05-2009 09:02 PM

As far as I know they aren't releasing a beta to the general public.

Correct. You need to apply for beta testing. There is an announcement regarding this over on vb.com

Yeah i wont, 3,8,3 is probably the best they will/can make. They will improve it but no point 3.8.3 has everything we need.

yes, I do :)

captkirk685 07-06-2009 04:47 AM

I will install it on my test area first and see how it affect my mods.

When you say on your test area, could you explain?

Do you have more than one license to do this ? Thanks

Each and every license of vBulletin sold allows for a public live site and a private test installation. In fact it is recommended that all testing of new versions and modifications be done on a test site before you go live so that your data integrity can be ensured.

You don't need a second license to install a test server.

I never knew that !

Could you point me towards a link please?

HMBeaty 07-08-2009 08:48 PM

I believe it says it in the license agreement....then again, I'm not sure. I know it says it somewhere. I'll look and post it unless someone else gets to it before I do

I will upgrade to the beta but not if IB plans on charging me an additional fee above and beyond what I already paid to extend my members area access.

vBulletin license grants you the right to run one instance (a single installation) of the Software on one web server and one web site for each license purchased. Each license may power one instance of the Software on one domain. For each installed instance of the Software, a separate license is required. Modifications to the Software or database to circumvent the one-license-one-board rule are prohibited.

If you have a valid Software license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public.

Cheers Brooks.

So essentially , I can upload latest version of vb to the SAME domain but to a directory called testvb ?

Then setup new databases, and use it for testing purposes.

HMBeaty 07-09-2009 10:14 PM

Correct

You must also make sure it is password protected so the public cannot get to it.

Doesn't have to be the same domain either, I remember asking a while back.
