Online business using Paypal??
Hi Guys
Wow have i had some problems with Paypal  I'll tell you a bit about what i do without promoting myself too much I make componants for car Transporters, you know the big ones that get towed by lorries. My company has never had an online store before, so i decide nows the time, i finally got online on the 5th June. :D now customers can order and pay online using paypal ;) Thats where the problems begin the first week i get mt new paypal account (a Business Account) limited as i've had a LOT OF MONEY recently paid in. I contacted paypal and they told me i've had ?1,700 paid into my account, but my estimated weekly turnover was ?2,000. I had to get my account Verified, so that took best part of a week  Then finally i get my account back, but before t can transfer the balance to my business bank bank account, they limit it again  Now they are asking for Proof of delivery, even though i have an account with a couier company :mad: and have my account limited for the past 8 days with over ?2,580 in it  Now at an extra expense (?50) i've had to set up a nochex merchant account and delete all traces of paypal from my site. I've just got off the Phone to them, No one gives you a satisfactory answer, and i still need to wait for my account to get back to normal, I told the lady i wanted to close my account and have all the funds sent to my business Bank account. These guys are a bunch of crooks, anyone else having problems with paypal?? They seem to be a law unto themselves, making up the rules as they go along, I'm definately not happy with them at all. I've taken Paypal off my site completely now. What a nightmare, i really expected a bit of a more professional service from Paypal, all i get is poop  Anyone have any Paypal Horror stories they'd like to share? might cheer me up if i know i'm not the only one ;) p.s. Anyone have a UK address for these Crooks, I'm going to send them an invoice. |
Its only bad at first when you're setting it up...smooth sailing from then on.
Oh and another thing. Pull the money out as soon as you get a purchase. Like that they can never hold your money. I always hear of people that have thousands frozen in there, so learn from others mistakes. You get an email saying someone bought something, log in every night and withdraw it all. |
I've never had a problem with them, but I've heard of many horror stories. I'd get a proper merchant account from your bank, and use someone like SecPay or WorldPay. Or if you want a fantastic API to work with, use Google Checkout :)

To be honest mate, i've done everything Paypal have asked for Its them dragging their heels and taking forever, whilst all this is going on, I'having to dip into my savings so that i can get the goods out to my Customers. To me Paypal is stealing my money, until i get it back, makes me so angry. Do paypal assume everyone is a scammer?? Do they not know by witholding customers money the goods will not get made and as a result the customer could incurr further bank charges late payments. It would be illegal for a Bank to act in this manner, how can paypal get away with it?? I've paid ?50 for a merchant Account with Nochex, I spoke with a guy there last week and we went through all the account opening there and then, unlike paypal, when they need to know something they freeze your account  At least now customers can pay with their credit and debit card without having to open a paypal or nochex account. Dean, Thanks again for your ideas mate, I did look at worldpay, and getting one from my bank, but they do charge and i've worked it out, with the fee's nochex charge, Its cheaper for me to use Nochex, I don't sell that much possibly once or twice a week, paying a monthly fee would not be cost effective as yet. I've signed up to Google Checkout also, thanks for that I've lost faith in paypal now, whilst its handy for the odd ebay purchase, anything else is a nightmare even if you've set up a verified business account with them. So not sure who the real crooks are the scammers or paypal  |

Yeah your not wrong Dean, Ultimately you get what you pay for, However i'm well impressed with Nochex, They interview you over the phone, i have my own account manager and a direct line. All the ID checks are done beforehand, and the proofs of ID sent to them before getting your account fully opened.
Which is the correct way of doing things as opposed to paypal freezing acounts when they feel like it. Loads of friends have told me to withdrawl my money from paypal imeadiately, because of the risk of having your account frozen and it could happen at anytime. But that kinda defeats the object in a way, if you don't trust the company that you use to process your payments. If business picks up, then yeah, i'll go for worldpay or secpay, a more professional merchant service, but i must admit Nochex is living upto my expectations already. I've heard stories that Paypal can and will freeze accounts upto 160 days and some businesses have thousands in their accounts. What a Bunch of crooks  Just read the Horror stories here http://www.paypalsucks.com/ For anyone in the UK having Paypal problems heres their latest UK Address. They thought they could fob me off by giving an address in Luxemborg, even though i told them i was from the UK. Basically after an hour on the phone, i've still not found anything new about my situation, Paypal told me that they have a right to freeze your account for upto 180 days without having to give you a satisfactory reason, and not pay you a penny of interest. Apparently i agreed to let them do this when i signed up, its in their agreement aparently. Oh and they said if i complained to Visa and mastercard, my account will be deleted?? whats that about? However i have found a way to get my money back, I asked paypal if my customers complained that they hadn't recieved their goods could they ask for their money back, He said yes. So tonight i've just asked all my customers to file a dispute to get their funds back, and i've asked them to pay me via nochex for an extra discount on their next orders, 2 of them have agreed already so at least i'll be ?700 better off this week hopefully :D |
ok the site works fine
i don't use paypal but i did use for SL - to pay monthly rent at one location - so its was good - only three times - i can't remember exactly |
Paypal is horrible, I wouldn't suggest using it unless you want tons of chargebacks, money taken back 6 months after you received it and limited accounts for no reason at all.
|
I've never had a problem with paypal, I've been using them for my business since 2005 ;)
ps. I've had maybe 5 charge backs in that time research who your working (just like any business) with and you'll never have a problem. |

Paypal froze several of my accounts. It was hell to get that undone. The reason for them seizing my first account: too much money was on it!!!! They think that is suspect activity and warrants them to take my money. I then needed to jump trough a substantial number of hoops to reclaim what was mine to begin with.
The second time, i apparently received a site donation from someone they deemed suspect. :S I had it with paypal. |
Hi Uk, (sorry inadvance for the long post. )
I'm very sorry you're having this problem. IMO, PayPal needs to be shut down or completely re worked to provide some sort of acceptable customer service. My account was all of the sudden frozen after many years with them because the said that they needed more documentation. Huh? After all these transactions and business they want me to provide even more documentation now??? When I called their office I was put on hold for several hours-just kept it on speaker phone to see just how long it would take. After several attempts at this I finally got a live person who told me point plank, 'Paypal's security department doesn't take any incoming calls from customers." and that everything had to be done through fax. My staff faxed everything they requested on numerous occasions and it was still several weeks before they completed things, this was after I personally fax all the documents twice again. When you run a business, it is awful to have operating money tied up at Paypal. I strongly encourage anyone using paypal now to look for alternatives. I've been with them since their beginning and they have only gotten ten times worse as they've grown. Also for such a large transferrer of money, I would think they would have gotten a hold of their fraudulent email problem by now but seems as though they can't seem to figure out what exactly to do about it. We are in the process of switching to another provider with much better live customer service. We were also able to negotiate a much better rate through some of the cc carriers themselves, especially American Express. Amex has been excellent so far. I think but I'm not positive that there are several class actions suits again them as well. One of the most scary things for me was that even though they had my organization's bank account, they wanted some pretty sensitive corporate information as well. I was not willing to fax this stuff and after many back and forths, they accepted alternative documentation. When it comes to money, if I can't talk to someone live at some point, then it's a huge red flag and very bad business. I found the below site during my problems with Paypal and it all but cemented a need for change. http://www.aboutpaypal.org/ which incidentially uses vbulletin as their forum software. I hope my dribble helps. --------------- Added [DATE]1247315017[/DATE] at [TIME]1247315017[/TIME] --------------- Dear ***********, To view the details regarding your limited account access, please follow these steps: 1. http://getsatisfaction.com/paypal I had a issue way back in Feb09 and i got it solved by posting at the above site, this is the only best way i find to get connected with paypal issues... |
I've got my issues resolved now a day after i kept asking them for an address for their legal team to serve court papers, I told them that they have the right to ask for additional information, but if they do it is such as way which makes me more into debt, then i have a right to claim back any cost incurred.
So after 3 weeks, and countless emails from me i finally recieved this email Quote:
I think paypal can solve a lot of issues with just a phone call or even working with you, whilst your account is still open, Instead they freeze your account for weeks on end, and taking ages to do such simple tasks. They think they have 15 million customers worldwide if just 1% have their accounts frozen for just 1 day they make mega bucks in interest, times it by 2 or 3 weeks, then its making paypal millions without actually having to do any work. Oh, forgot to say, when i asked paypal why do you do this to your members, they told me its because i agreed to it when i sign up, glutton for punishment i am :( I'll only use paypal now as a last resort, and then i'll withdraw the money immeadiately  |
