Facebook now offers friendly URLs similar to Twitter..
instead of profile.php?id=000001
you can now have
/myname

Yep, I grabbed mine and one for each of my kids (of course, they were out with friends on a Friday night!) at 9:00 Friday when they first allowed it.

ya me too. Right at midnight EST I was snagging names. First 3 I tried were instantly gone. I think they set aside the good ones like city/country names, and first names... ended up getting something underwhelming... lol

My wife tried to get the same name that she has on LiveJournal but it wasn't available. However it has the name of a flower that is also the source of a highly addictive narcotic in the name as well. And no, its not poppy or opium. Though it grows practically everywhere locally and is considered a protected species, making it illegal to pick it.

She had to settle for her first name. I just got first.last name which is what I have been using on all social networking sites or the variation of first_last.

I can't for the life of me see where I can choose a url.

it should be a message at the top when you log in?

we'll be able to name our pages too on the 28th
or if you had 1000 fans on your pages, you could get it the other night

I can't get my name, and I don't feel that a pseudoname on facebook would make much sense so I'll just leave it as the numerical ID.

vbulletin wasn't taken the last time I checked, I thought about trying for it :D

they got the title Correct `Vanity Urls` because thats all they are.
For people who want to post links etc with their nick or name in it.
Do u really think people care about what is in the actual Url ?

actually they do - it's now easier to remember and pass along

yeah.. I can just say catch me on Facebook, under wayne.luke instead of trying to remember a number or search. Heck, I can remember my own URL now. Before I always had to go to Facebook and click on Profile to see what the URL to my profile was.

actually i can find anyone on facebook just by searching for their real name.

I had a hard time finding my own brother on there because there are so many users with his name and his lack of information that he posts for the public.

I'm so glad to have my name rather than just a faceless number in the crowd. :p
