This is the SEO friendly yet Advanced AJAX powered Musicbox by DnP Network?. It is found by Silveryhat in the late 2008 and early 2009. The original version was first use way back in the '06 or '07 with limited functions and no ajax support. A serious upgrade and rebuilding have been made few weeks ago for this release. Main goal was to make it faster and compatible with all vBulletin forums. This project is the hard work of Silveryhat and DnP Administrator of DnP Network?, we wish to bring the best to the vB community.

It depends on your configuration :) . They cannot upload to your server but they can add song/video clip that URL is from another host.

I get some of the things you have done... but as an admin, how do I edit the songs members have posted, or delete them, so that I can set up the sub cats? When I try, I get the "do not have permission...." message. Do I have to com pletely uninstall and reinstall to start over?

On further thought I think this is just too hands on for me to use. I have hundreds and hundreds of members who all like music of different kinds and this is just too poorly organized and implimented at this time for me to use it.

THis error pops up every time I try to enter a category.
The categories are all together, not nested like they show on the page, so unless you only have three or four genres and intend to never change them, its very hard to keep track.

The admin either has ALL control or almost no control over input. There is no way to alter or edit what members input. If a member wants to add a new artist they discovered, they have to ask me or the other admin to input all the information, way to time intensive on a forum that is busy.

This would however be good for a forum that is about a specific artist or genre... and of course if the admin has all the time on earth to copy and paste code from one place to another for hours on end.

How much for you to install?

Very nice work. I will keep a close eye on this one. For now I would love to see you have it know the difference between songs and videos. eg. it gives the user a link like this: .com/song362 but it is for a video and not a song.

another example: you have it called music.php but this is now more then just music. maybe rename it media.php or something.

Those songs you have posted but not working, the Patch 3 download will give you more helpful hint to edit.

The first start is the hardest. If everything doesn't require much work, the great success it brings has no fulfill values.

Admin has FULL control over those songs anyone posts. Admin can delete / edit them anyway he/she wants. Play a song and at the bottom of it there are two buttons that you may find. Refer to F.A.Q question 6th.
About the ability for member to add artist

However, add the musicbox grows, I don't see any reason not to make it better. I'll note the idea as well.

Erm I see no excuse to charge someone to install a beta mod. It's way easy with only 3 steps, why don't you give it a try? I can help you install it but you need to PM me your host info, ftp server and forum admin password. It is complicated and these information are too personal to share.

For .com/song362 it is a short url that i use (this setting is optional in the configuration). I'm adding the new url rewrite feature that's pretty much similar to what you say (spoileeeeeeer : /video-Show-off-fails , /music-bad-day , etc..

1. It totally depends on the database encoding. It works perfectly on mine.
2. ._. no. If a webmaster does not want a file to be linked we should not violate his privacy. But doesnt firefox already bypass hotlink protection ?

If a member adds a video and there is no category or artist entered, no one can even open the song to edit it. It just doesnt work for anyone. I pressed the edit button on the new popup message that was added and got the no permission page, even after making the setting change that you suggested.

Rerun the install php, it has an uninstall function also.

Yes, that setting is the one I used. If there is no artist/category entered, you cannot edit the song. Because there are no permissions associated with this, ANY member or NO members may input songs so it's either the admin does ALL the work or has no control over what someone who doesnt know what they are doing might enter?

The latest update has new song approval feature ready if you notice.
If there is no artist/category entered, it does not relate to permission requirements to edit/post a song. PM me your board URL I'll take a look if some configuration has gone wrong on your side.

For you guys who have PM'ed me lately about a hang during installation on high load server, I've remodified the installer and divide the process into small steps that it should help you pass the 'Sending request' wait time faster. Thanks to leedq , h2 and others who bring up this feedback.

After installation i got database error on music.php

I already uninstalled but I am keeping this tagged so that if you finally get what I am trying to convey then maybe the product will be more suited to my board.

There is only a setting for <<Yes, members may enter songs>> Or <<No, members may not enter songs>>. Some members just signed up yesterday and are not informed about artist or album or even the mod in general while other members are perfectly capable of understanding how the mod works. If I want the more informed members to use the mod, the less informed have to use the mod as well. Either I do it all myself or I spend all my time checking to see what "NooB1337" may have put into the mod while I was sleeping.

Permissions are more member user friendly also. They want to enter songs they can share with their friends because my forum is 90% teenagers from all over the world. 15 yo girl in Norway wants to show 17 yo boy in Germany what her favorite songs are... I dont know bands in Norway so that is a lot of work for me to do that could very easily be done by the member. Making a usergroup (or giving an existing one permission) wouldnt be messy as you said, you know who on your forum is bright enough not to enter "Lady Gaga" "LuvLadyGaga" "Gaga" etc...

The ability to share playlists would be fantastic also.

I can't see what you're getting at.If you're allowing new members straight into registered usergroup, then it will be the same for all the mods on your site. You can only allow usergroup (member/registered usergroup) to use the mod not individual members.It is viewable for all..You might need to take a look at setting up a new usergroup prior to registered usergroup,and take them on a training course.Or post a good sticky..

Are you planning on releasing a vbadvanced module for this.

By installation do mean uploading the upload folder and as well as run the install_dnp_musicbox.php to setup the database? Please don't forget that step. If the problem persists, simply click the option uninstall database and install it again.

I guess you'd want a new permission setting that allows specific group(s) to post song only ?

I have both modules for vbAdvanced and forum with no vBadvanced to show the instant! box on homepage, (just like on my forum homepage dnp.silveryhat.conm). But they are not perfect. And I'm not the coder of that plugin. DnP is. It may take more time for him to develop it until I take a deeper look at it. And I'm not sure if it will be free plugin or paid plugin. He might take a charge of $5 or $10 but that lays in the future. Currently I'm working on the comment feature , take a peek.

Imagine how a mess it would become if one member adds "Lady Gaga" , then another adds "ladyGaga" and his friend who also plays the forum does "Gaga lady", but a random member does not like those names and wants to do "Gaga my luv" for himself while a noob dont know wat and dont know how where he accidentally creates "Lazy haha" into the list.. The same reason applies for Album records therefore only Admin can create the artist and album. It might be a hard work but you want your musicbox looks good with working portraits and correct information."

Isn't that the whole purpose of a Moderator? This feature kinda makes it unusable. I can't imagine members even wanting to post anything without that control. I wouldn't.
