I m fed up with spammers in our forum.. :( is there any way to reduce this
 

Spammers in our forum is growing day by day..

however we are banning deleting their account as soon as we can.

And we put all the new threads under moderation.

But still these stupid peoples are posting..

we even got a warining from our server (singlehop)..

is there any way to stop this..
Please help us

I put a relatively simple maths problem as part of the new user registration. Complete
elimination of spammers. New members do not have a problem registering. Make the
problem simple but with 5 or more steps e.g 5 +13 -7 *2 -2 * 0 =??

so far no spamms..... :) ..
we used to get 10-20 spamms posts in an hour..

I made the changes as blueningaGo suggested..

Itz been like more than 2 hour :)

If so, I did link modifications on there as well. And if you want more information on spam, do a search.... you'll find plenty

^^^ I don't think he was sarcastic, I think he simply refered to options that should have been set right at the begining. If anything, I appreciate your link because I have the same problem. I set image verification with 4 of the 5 boxes if this doesn't stop the spam I'll do question and answer and block mail.ru

Kiros72 suggested banning these e-mail addresses as well...

Theres so much info on here about spam and how to beat it, If you do a search you'll come up with some brilliant articles and posts.

Different members have different ways of dealing with spam, and each has a story to tell.

Another tip is don't let the differnce in mod versions put you off installing a spam mod, Many spam mods working on 3.6 will also work happily on 3.7 and 3.8 Try it and see.

Personally myself the best hack for stopping spam on my forum is the "Is Bot" mod, That alone stops 99.9% of bots and works a treat for me.

I wonder if anyone has started up a Viagra and Porn Marketing forum, I bet they would get 1000's of sign ups daily and a very busy forum :eek::D:D

But i wonder,
these spammers .. they register, put an avatar, customize their profile, add siggy.. and everything.. then they start spamming :D
and we ban straight away..

they waste lots of time on it... :confused:

Anyway thanks for letting me know abt the Is Bot Mod.. i will have a try on that aswell
