Google Wave

I'm a newbie to this and I have a question. How do you think Google Wave will effect forums?? How can you integrate Google Wave into the forums? Will it make forums obsolete? Google Wave is in real time and very easy to use.

Its early days yet and anyway its not ready at the moment.

if anyone is wondering what google wave is ...

Google Wave is a product that helps users communicate and collaborate on the web. A "wave" is equal parts conversation and document, where users can almost instantly communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more. Google Wave is also a platform with a rich set of open APIs that allow developers to embed waves in other web services and to build extensions that work inside waves.

For more information about Google Wave, please visit http://wave.google.com

We need to see what happens when its fully released only then can we really start to see if we can integrate or modify.

Its almost like google have too much money in the bank and need to spend it for tax reasons

Thanks for the reply. I know it's early, but I want to be able to hop on the bandwagon, if it will make the forums easier for the members.

Yeah, I think Google has too much money.(lol)

Hi Mustang :D

Google definately has too much money  when they come out with ideas like this, its best to wait a few months for the hype to die down.

Remember Google are a brill search engine, but as for other things??? Well its got a long way to go before it can overtake Microsoft!!

Look at all the Hype about the New Browser?? Google Chrome? How many people are using it?? and just how many millions did it cost to get off the ground.

best thing to do is watch and wait :D

Not many if you are looking at the big picture, but for a browser to have just come out in September, the number of users is pretty impressive.

If it weren't for plugins, I'd drop Firefox and go Chrome completely. I like webkit more, and the css3 support is great. I imagine that Chrome will eventually offer their own plugin system, or make it so FF plugins will work with it.. Or hell, maybe both.

Until then, I will still use FF.. I just need it to develop, you know?

I think I'll wait for a simpler explanation, not watching anything that long .....

Wave will be a hard sell for corporations. However, I see this really taking off at the college level for real time collaboration. Especially for those that are taking "distance learning" courses.

I had this same question. I am about to start a forum and know i will need to invest a lot of time and some money into it. But now that i'm hearing more and more about Wave's capabilities. It sounds like it may trump forums as we know them today. It sounds like forums on steroids. Click and embed pictures, videos, maps, charts, collaboration tools etc. It even has a built in translating device, etc. The best part, IMO, is that you can reply directly to parts of the original conversation. You no longer have to quote parts of others, like in vB (which now seems a bit archaic). What do others think? I'm nervous to get too invested into a vB, if GWave might be a better alternative in a few months... PLUS it's free.
