Welcome Thread Upon Registration
1 Attachment(s)
Welcome Thread Upon Registration This mod creates a welcome thread when a new member registers. Features controlled via the ACP (See screenshot) - Thread Title - Thread Message - Forum Location - Post Icon - Which User Creates Thread - Thread Placed In Moderation - Create Thread Before/After Email Activation - Have a Random Title https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ - Have Random Thread Content https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ - Post From a Random Member https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ - Post a Random Icon https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ When is the thread created? You now have the choice via the ACP! A thread can be created as soon as a member registers, or if you use email activation on your board, you can have the thread created once they have activated their email. Boards that require an admin to approve new users This mod has an option to place new threads into moderation. Once the new user has been approved via an admin, you can then release the new thread. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ New Features in Version 1.2 https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ Does your welcome forum look a little bit "samey" like this? http://www.doverlocals.co.uk/welold.PNG Same old thread title, same old post icon, same old user posting the thread and when you go inside it has the same old content? Well maybe I could interest you in the latest version of this mod! http://www.doverlocals.co.uk/welnew.PNG You decide on four titles and the content of four threads! You can also select the UserID's of who you want the threads to be created by. You can also select to have random post icons! - All controlled via the ACP. Its all random. Thread title one doesnt belong to thread content one and thread title two doesnt belong to thread content two. With this mod when a member registers, thread title one may be posted with the contents of thread content four and thread title three might be posted with thread content two etc. The same goes with the UserID's and the post icon. Download v1.1 = product-welcomethread280509updated v1.2 = product-welcomethread300509 v1.2.1 = product-welcomethread030609 v1.2.2 = Fixed the issue of "Welcome Unregistered" showing if you have email activation on. Installation Import product via ACP Edit settings via vbulletin options >> Welcome Thread Upon Registration Upgrade Import product via ACP, Click "yes" to allow overwrite. Edit settings via vbulletin options >> Welcome Thread Upon Registration Screenshots The screenshots show the ACP in version 1.2. I was unable to fit it all into one image, so had to split the image in half. Although I have marked this as supported im a very new coder and this is my first release. I have tested it by signing up over 100 users on my test board and as yet there have been no glitches. If there are any errors, I will try my best to resolve them, however as being new im still learning the ropes. Version History v1.0 - First release 28/05/09 (98 d/l) v1.1 - Thread creation after email activation added / Post Icon added 28/05/09 v1.2 - Random titles/UserID/Thread content/Post icons 30/05/2009 (49 d/l) v1.2.1 - Allows you to have the members name created as a link to their profile (88 d/l) v1.2.2 - Fixed the "unregistered" bug |
Nice I was looking for this to be upgraded to 3.8! Good one!
Request: Set a Post Icon Send the User a PM with information about the Thread Thanks. |
Is this mod basically the older mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=91887) but done in a product? I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing out on some other features :D
|
Is there a way to change this so it creates a thread when the member subscribes rather than registers?

|

Regarding the PM, I would suggest using the "Send welcome PM" thats built into vbulletin and add something like this into it Quote:

I have changed the message to $username has just joined the board. Take a second to send them a PM or leave a visitor message to welcome them. This allows my current members to be notified when someone new joins. Is there a way to hotlink the $username to the new members profile. That way my current members can quickly go to their profile and leave a visitor message for them

Off the top of my head I cant think of a way to do that, however I am very new to this! Maybe someone else might be able to assist if they know of a way. |
I have it setup but when it asks for the user Id of the person to create the thread it won't save it, it just goes back to 0 after I hit save..any idea why?

v1.2 upgrade worked like a charm. Love the new features, you rock sir.
|
Instead of having a random user posting can we have it set so the new user is the thread poster ?
|

I have a request. It just dawned on me that I installed Facebook Connect which uses a differn't usergoup ID then "Register Users".
I was wondering if you could add a section to in the ACP to allow multible group ID's that can use this wonderful feature? |
Great hack, thanks.. I like the idea..
installed 1.2 and works fine, however, when I selected to create thread after email confermation, the thread was addressed to " Guest " !!! Any idea why that is?.. I just noticed 1 thread that way now.. I will moniter it for the next few Thanks |
Even i have selected the new thread after email confirmation, and it says "Welcome Unregistered".

yep,, it just happened again for the second time just now.. it seems random.. most times it works fine, but now and then it misfires :)
EDIT: it did it again just now, it seems more go to unregistered then to registered was working 100% when selected to post before email confermation !!! |
Strange. I'll have a look into it.
Can you post the titles and content that were displayed please. I did most of the testing with non email verification, however i'll do some more using verification and see if I can iron it out. |
I am having a very bizarre issue. The mod created a post as it should. No one can access the posts to even read them. I am full admin so I would think I should at least see them when no one else can. I have checked and rechecked permissions. Any idea?
Whatever the cause I am removing this mod for the time being but since I cannot explain how this happened I do not trust it for now. I expect to revisit this in the future but this required me to remove the 2 entries via phpadmin manually and I won't risk further issues until I can determine why. |
