Requests for Paid Services

Anyone else have a problem with people who post projects in the Request for Paid Services not following up at all when contacted?

I don't think the section is even needed unless some rules are more clearly enforced, such as you must follow up with prospects if you submit a project. Or at least login to your account again once you submit said project.

Just my thoughts after using the system for years.

They may get a few pms from people willing to do the job,and offer the job to the person who they think will complete the job best,
while at same time not sending pms back the others to let them know the job has gone.

As soon as you hire someone you should have to put in your thread who you hired.

It would be nice if posters did respond, but we cannot force people to post or reply.

You can create policy to require "job filled" edits / posts by the original poster, though.

Or at least a time limit for days to fill the project... It's just a run-down system. :)

Some people will just not be bothered to edit or update their threads. I've had several successful job completions in the Paid Requests and even have requested the Client to update their thread with my site information and details of the job ==> the greater percentage have not even done that.

And while the obviously cordial thing for the OP to do is to update their threads - It would basically be impossible to huntdown and force every single poster to update their threads; Some people are lugheads who cannot be moved to do such a thing :) --- Then at the same time if such a policy were implemented - The vB.org Staff would be too damn busy to do anything else. So - adding such a force update/edit thread policy is a bad and almost impossible idea to add to the already bloated list of vB.org rules.

that is right. They should report back if they have hired some one.

Many of these people looking to have work done are busy, and once the work is done, they have other issues to take care of. Updating a thread saying the work was done isn't really a priority to them, they are just happy the work is done :)

I am looking for customization work on my Vbulletin site and am not sure where to post. Is this the right place?

I have experience the same thing. I complete some work and ask to update the thread, but not many do, or they just forget about it.

Same here. I've only run into one person that said they were going to update their thread, but never happened.

I've found that emailing the client, asking them to fill out a testimonial for your services is easier than getting them to update their vB.org thread. I've made a template for testimonial feedback - may help some of you if you have your own freelance portfolio online:

Quote:

Would you care to complete a brief feedback regarding your experience with JacquiiDesigns? We'd surely appreciate it! Find our testimonial form at http://jacquiidesigns.com/testimonial.html

What should your testimonial include?
Your testimonial should be 1 or 2 paragraphs and include a brief feedback regarding the service(s) JacquiiDesigns has provided you. Please be specific about your particular project. The following is suggested topics you may want to include in your testimonial:
  • Did we complete the project in the manner you expected?
  • Did our customer service -- whether professional or otherwise -- meet your expectations?
  • Was your project completed on the time schedule we discussed during your initial consultation?
  • Did our JacquiiDesigns representative make you smile or laugh or otherwise feel welcome?
  • Would you hire JacquiiDesigns service(s) again for any future projects you may have?
  • Would you recommend JacquiiDesigns to your friends and/or collegues?

When I open my portfolio site later this month, I'll have 20+ testimonials - half of which have come from completed vB.org project requests. So while getting clients to update their thread may be a bit of a hassle - sending them a quick email, will generally make it easier for them to respond back with testimonial feedback.

HTH ;)

After spotting a paid services request, I quickly boxed off the job as it was pretty quick for me and my skill-set. I PM'd the requester and didn't get a reply.

Won't be doing that again in a hurry!
