Smart Phones - What are you using?

What all are you using? Please tell me your likes and dislikes, what would you like to see different in them?

Iphone for me - excellant phone but has a few minor problems - sound is not brilliant and if someone sends u a txt u cant forward it on.

Guest190829 04-18-2009 06:17 AM

iPhone...it's neat, nothing spectacular.

Michael Biddle 04-18-2009 08:29 AM

I have the G1 from T-Mobile. I love the google apps. Not as thin/sexy looking as the iPhone, but that's okay to me.

Magnumutz 04-18-2009 09:42 AM

No need for smart phone, i've got all the smarts i need :D
I use my phone for talking and listening to music... not even texting, that's obsolete!
Nokia 5220 XpressMusic

iogames 04-19-2009 04:34 PM

got iPhone and for the last 2 years I've used Skype, now I love both together! :D

Caddyman 04-19-2009 04:56 PM

BB Storm ftw. o yeah on VZW, it's the network ;)

BSMedia 04-19-2009 04:57 PM

I've got the Bold and iPhone via AT&T. One is for business and the other for play, I'll let you figure out which is which ;)

Guest210212002 04-19-2009 08:08 PM

iPhone, love it, WTB MMS though, for pete's sake. :(

FBI DIRECT0R 04-19-2009 08:42 PM

G1, best phone I ever had. Multiple IMs at same time. $25 a month is a bit steep, but for me and my job it works well. Also the map app is sick, never get lost again and you don't need a subscription to a gps service. Was working on an app for it, but the main coder got a new job and his wife pregnant :( sucks for me.

I use the iPhone. I been trying to develop apps, but I suck at it. Its great for work and play!

R1lover 04-19-2009 10:47 PM

I have had both the 2g and now the 3g iphones, love them, but my work has verizon so I have an Samsung Omnia coming tomorrow to try out... it's running WM 6.1 so it looks to be a great phone. Time will tell though how it stacks up against the iphone.

Medtech 04-19-2009 11:11 PM

I use HTC Kaiser (aka at&t tilt) and soon hope to get the HTC Shift.

I perfer the Kaiser over the iphone because it is more stable and with the opera browser, i can use the chatboxes on my forum. it works like a browser on a computer and not like a mobile.

The HTC Shift has a 80 gig hard drive, usb 2.0, and uses windows vista business.

Both phones are touch screen.

Reeve of shinra 04-20-2009 01:03 AM

iphone (1st gen)

Its honestly the best phone I've ever had and it just keeps on getting better. Its the little things, like being able to use the addresses in my contacts list while looking up an address in google maps, that really make the difference.

Pros:
- Best contact manager and great calendar syncing with outlook.
- App Store
- It is also, at the end of the day, an ipod touch!
- Best portable device I found for watching mp4 movies.

Cons:
- text message plan is extra (bb plans include this I think)
- IM app needs to be open to receive IM's (guess to force texting).
- I prefer Verizon's network over ATT's (I get better coverage on VZW and it seems like calls drop more on ATT)
- The calendar could have better integration for one click maps and phone calls (gee, can you tell im nit picking here).

Marco van Herwaarden 04-20-2009 08:45 AM

Smart phone? I am smart enough by myself i think. Just using a phone that does what a phone should do: allow me to call & txt-message, nothing more.

Caddyman 04-20-2009 10:12 AM

but Marco, what if you can't figure out what you want to eat one night? will you just starve? or if you really need to make a special fart noise? what if you forget where you parked your car?

there's a app for that

Marco van Herwaarden 04-20-2009 10:15 AM

My brain is capable of handling those tasks, no need for a phone to do it for me.

So very true.

I have a son who attends a special needs boarding school,I only have a mobile phone so they can contact me in emergencies,I certainly would not have one otherwise.

Smart phones......... will never have one .

Currently using a Blackberry. Haven't decided whether to continue using a Blackberry or switch to the iPhone when my current two year term is up in June. Since I get a $200.00 credit towards a new phone at that time, I can get either an iPhone or Blackberry Curve for free.

alessai 04-27-2009 01:18 PM

Blackberry Curve,
my dad bought it for ?600 and didnt know how to use it loool (he got it unlocked and bought it in the first week it came out - that why it cost ?600) the last time i went back to my country he gave it to me,(and bought 5800 Nokia which i bet if i go back he will give it to me :p), though im kinda like him i dont really like to use phones alot (if its not for my family calls i wont ever need a phone, i stayed for almost 2 years with out a phone and it was the best 2 years of my life)

and i have an IPOD Touch 2G for music, phones for me is an extra weight

nexialys 04-27-2009 02:37 PM

if you purchase a £600 phone and have no idea what it is used for, you have too much money...

Brandon Sheley 04-29-2009 01:43 AM

JB iPhone for me :)

UKBusinessLive 04-30-2009 05:14 AM

I have a google G1 phone, which i think is better than the iphone for entering content (It has a Keyboard), Although i think that the iphone may be better for downloads and music.

I may try an iphone when my contract runs out

KTBleeding 04-30-2009 03:30 PM

I just got the Samsung Behold. It was either that, or the G1. Since I work from home three days out of the week, and I'm already paying $60 a month for internet, I don't really want to pay for phone internet also. In that mindset, I decided to not go for the G1.. but I really really do like the Android interface. A lot. :/

As far as the internet goes on the g1 its out of this world, really fast if i'm at home it changes to my wireless setup so its superquick, since i use googlemail for my emails, it updates them on the phone on the fly.

There are a couple of sore points, which i miss when i had my N95, the first is that you can't take videos, and second the camera is pure crap, whereas on my old N95 is was pretty decent.

Another sore point is the keyboard is so tiny you need the fingers of a 2 year old to be able to use it effectively. Apart from that its not a bad phone.

would i upgrade the G1 Phone when available, ~ Probably not, Might give the Iphone a bash

Does the Iphone have video ?? and whats the camera like??

TimberFloorAu 04-30-2009 05:55 PM

Beacuse of Australias extreme temperatures. Plus forever dropping fone into the pool, or out the ute as I drive along.

I use the Sonim XP1

The new version dubbed cupcake has the on screen keyboard and a camcorder feature. They say it is out on the dev phones now, and should hit the public in May. I hear it is supposed to blow the iphone away.

Rumours eh they spread like wildfire ..............

I heard the GPhone was supposed to beat the iphone hands down - what happened there :)

Like it or not Apple coined the market with the Iphone and proberly will continue to dominate the market in yrs to come.

Iphone does have video camera capabilities and the inbulit camera is 2 meg pixels (not brillant but if u want brill pics then get a decent camera
The iphone aint the superphone that its made out to be and does have some annoying quirks such as the sound but its still and excellant phone and with the addons available makes it even better.

I doubt that m8 - the iphone is a breeze to type with the onscreen keyboard. Can knock emails or anything out in seconds its that easy to use.And its all touch screen no need for extra gimmicks such as touch pen etc.

It is rumored that a new iPhone will be released in the next couple of months with the release of version 3.0 of its OS that will include video and video editing capabilities on the level of the Flip Camera.

It is also rumored that the current low-end model will be available for less than $100.00 at the same time.

Will have to wait and see on both accounts.

They teamed up with T-Mobile in the United States which many people see as a company for teens and not for business. Others see them as a second tier company as they don't have a lot of penetration in the market and their marketshare reflects this.

Whereas Apple signed their exclusive deal with the company that has the largest wireless network in North America. They also got that company to eat 60% of the costs of a new device by allowing them to force users to get a 2 yr contract with an expensive data plan.

The Blackberry Storm is actually a better device than the iPhone and probably has as much if not more application support than the iPhone. While the App store has a lot of apps, there is a lot of repetition and things that are plain silly. However whereever there is an iPhone app, you can be sure that there is probably a Blackberry clone around the corner. Unfortunately, the Storm is a Verizon exclusive and will be hobbled by their obsolete CDMA network. Verizon will be better able to compete in 2012 when they switch to LTE

I'll not deny that the iPhone is a strong device in the market but it didn't create anything that wasn't already being done for a decade previous to its release. People have been Blackberry and Palm devices long before the iPhone and they will continue to use them. Especially, since you can't get Microsoft Outlook (and therefore Exchange) on your iPhone yet.

Apple isn't really the first to the market in new segments these days. They just seem to do better marketing than some of their competitors. Even their new "Mini Tablet" product that is rumored is already available from HTC in the form of the HTC Shift.

I use both, blackberry tour and a iphone 3G but I have two forums. One is a blackberry site and the other is a apple site. For getting things done I prefer my blackberry but for media and internet I like my iphone better.

Adrian Schneider 08-11-2009 11:50 PM

I've been using a BlackBerry Storm the past month and I'm very happy with it so far.
