Domain/server transfer
Okay, i have read the manual and other peoples' problems but I am still lost. If I am being a noob, I really am sorry, as I know how annoying we can be. Here is my situation though:
I have vb installed on a server, with a domain name that I bought. (I don't know if i can post it or not) :/ But..... I signed up for the new service, put in my domain, but now i don't know where to go. I can't access the ftp server because the ftp.xxxxxxxxxx.com sends me to the old sites server.... I am sorry if I am not clear enough, if anyone can help me, please ask any questions you need and I will try to answer to the best of my ability. |
You have moved servers ?
Is your domain pointing to your new server yet ? You can access the new server from ip instead of domain name |

I don't know how to point the domain to the new server... and I also don't know how to access the ip instead of the domain name.. I'm such a noob, i'm sorry. I'll try finding the IP right now. agh, servers are down atm. :( |

On your ftp program instead of entering ftp.domain.com just enter the ip address for that part Do you have cpanel on your new server ? |

|
Then you can see the ip of your new server in the url you use to connect to cpanel
Have you actually moved the account over to the new server yet ? |

Oh right , well its late here so I have to go now but when the site is back online you can maybe get something like flashfxp and instead of using the ftp.domain.com in address just enter the full ip of your new site untill you get your domain name redirected to your new server
Then go to your domain host and change the old ip to the new ip |

Ok good luck with it , pm me if you need any help
|
okay, the name servers are changed on the domain.. but when i go to my site i get a database error :(

EDIT: I believe i got it set the way it is supposed to be. Testing config now. but i dont' know what to do once it is upped |
Whats the error your getting , can you post that ?
Easiest way to fix would be to run an upgrade/reinstall of vbulletin |
mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Access denied for user 'a3969843_befrage'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
/home/a3969843/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 311 MySQL Error : Error Number : Request Date : Sunday, April 5th 2009 @ 02:12:53 PM Error Date : Sunday, April 5th 2009 @ 02:12:53 PM Script : http://www.gameinciter.com/ Referrer : IP Address : 72.90.38.121 Username : Classname : vB_Database MySQL Version : I don't want to do that though because i want to keep everything we have. |
Just run an upgrade with vbulletin then
|
okay but what if i'm already upgraded highest though?
|
You can just reinstall it again , I have reinstalled before to fix errors
Double check first but im 99% sure a reinstall will be ok for you |
okay thank you, will do

Fix this, user credentials are incorrect, has nothing to do with a upgrade.
Access denied for user 'a3969843_befrage'@'localhost' |

Check the MySQL username, password, and server you have entered in config.php.

username password host (localhost or ip is needed depending on what the host requires.) |

For those of you with this issue, make sure you search you webhost for what you need to enter there. I just have never encountered a time where i didnt have to use localhost. Well, i'm an idiot, but hopefully it helps someone else out too. |
