Deleted thread still appearing on forum index
Hello
One nasty spammer registered and posted 2 threads.I banned and deleted him & his threads but they are still appearing on the board index. How to remove them ? Regards |
AdminCP - maintenance - rebuild thread titles
I think. |
Did you delete them or soft-delete them?

Edit : I am not sure what is the difference between soft delete and normal delete ?? :) |
Soft-delete allows you to restore later... admins can still see thread....
Permenant delete removes it completely (AFAIK) |

Hm I think that something weird happened because I as admin see them and when I log off, clear the cookies and etc I still see them but when I click to check out the thread I get error message that thread doesn't exist...Can you tell me how to "destroy" this spam permanently
Edit : I didn't found this option rebuild thread titles ... AdminCP - maintenance - update counters --> and here nothing ... I tried Remove Orphan Threads and posts. |

Yes I did :)
AdminCP - maintenance - update counters --> and nothing such as "rebuild thread titles" ? Two options : 1) I am "blind" 2) Something else is not okay |
His point was they're most likely soft-deleted, which it sounds like they are since you can see them when logged in but not when you're logged off. To perma-delete spam instead of soft-deleting it, use "Delete as Spam" as normal and under "Deletion Options" make sure "Physically Remove" is selected instead of "Soft-Delete." This will remove the thread entirely from your site.

What version vb are you running? It doesn't sound like you are going about deleting the users threads correctly. Remove Orphan threads is not the way to go about it. Read the definition of that function:

I know that this option is not the way to solve this but I just tried ... :) Next time I will use the hard-deletion method but question is how to fix this mess now. |
It's actually very easy. Look at the thread / post on the forum page - you should see "View" and "Manage." Click "Manage." Inside there, under "Deletion Status" click on "Physically Remove" then "Save Changes." You can also just click the in-line Moderation box and then scroll to the bottom, click "Delete Threads" and "Physically Remove." Both do the same thing, just different steps.
